Chapter13:22. Why does it say give the inheritance to your children's children.

    Proverbs 13:22

    live.

We need to leave our children an inheritance of godliness and wisdom as well as one that we can financially. Without this our children will suffer far worse than if they miss a few luxuries according to the dictates of society. There are those who will have wealth, but may spend eterntiy in abject poverty in hell when they die. This is no inheritance that you want to pass on to your family. If we leave them with wisdom and with knowledge of the Word and of their Savior Jesus Christ - they will be rich for eternity - even if they don't live on the upper east side in this life.

The wicked will leave their wealth to the righteous. This means that although they live wealthy for the few years of this life, they will eventually die and leave all of it to others. Since they have lived for wickedness, their children will most likely waste their wealth and have it transfer to those who use wise principles in how they do business. These are those who are godly and good in their business as well as their daily lives.

There is something that we desperately need to leave to our children and their children. It is a good thing if we can leave them an inheritance that will help them afford a home or other things financially. But more importantly is to leave them with an inheritance in the things of the Lord. This is something that can never be lost. God promised that a godly man can touch thousands over the lives of his children and grandchildren. But to do so we need to be willing to invest, not just in stocks and bonds - but in a godly heritage that will take a lifetime to develop and prepare for our families.

Good morning all! The best inheritance that one can can leave is a witness of the truth in their children and grandchildren and for some great grand children. When I witnessed my two older children (a year apart in time) transformation from their old walk to a new walk within hours it was like watching a miracle in a day take place. Where there was no peace, there was peace, where they were kicking against the pricks there was quietness. When this experience happens the parents have completed their primary responsibility in the home. The children will then be guided by the Holy Spirit in their season of bringing forth fruit. We as Christians like to think of everyone else instead of our own homes and our own children and our own fleshly fears. Parents should teach children while they can by example in stewardship in economics and preferring those who have authority over them. This is the Kingdom of Christ in earth, it's reign is now, it's blessings are now and full thankfulness is now, love is now, peace is now, hope in eternal life is now, loving our neighbor is now, teaching the Truth is now. God will make a way for his lambs without having to defend themselves by violence and without harsh word and without spiritual lascivious acts with the unbelieving world.

Children are a witness for us or against us in our very practices of what we believe as Christians.

I would understand Proverbs 13:22 as describing the worth of a 'good man'. Of course, he, as a husband & father, has to also demonstrate good, godly attributes to his family & those around him, but he should also be one that considers his family after he passes away. I realize that today it would be hard for many to leave much inheritance to their children, let alone their grand children, but the focus in this verse, is on the man who first gives every consideration to his family - unlike the sinner (opposite to the good man), whose "wealth will be distributed to those better than he."
