Is it wrong for a woman to preach in the pulpit?
  • Mishael - In Reply on Proverbs 27:17 - 3 years ago
No. Joyce Meyer teaches at women's conferences; men are welcome there too.

Our nation is rapidly trying to bust hell wide open. What is wrong with people called of God (not man), teaching the Word of God?

If we were reading our Bibles like we are supposed to, anyone could sniff out heresy!

Look.... in heaven we're going to be like the angels. No dating, no marriage; carnal nature Gone!!

I'm going to tell Bible stories, Mishael-style.

You were supposed to answer using bible references for me to be satisfied. And am really sorry that you mention someone whom when we compare with the word , at a given point she may have gone out of the word. Eg divorce and Malachi 2:13-14 God is against it and she has committed it
  • Mishael - In Reply on Proverbs 27:17 - 3 years ago
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Looks like I commented on something else

    entirely. Apology again.

I looks to me like you're saying that she divorced you? If she is a believer in Christ then she's still bound to the vow. If she's not a believer and has chosen to leave, then you are released from your vow.

Matthew 6:31 and following are Jesus's comment on divorce. If the reasons are adultery or fornication, the divorce is final. The vow is broken.

If you have a Bible with center of each page, Reference Columns; the tiny alphabet letters will refer you to Old Testament laws concerning marriage and divorce. But since Jesus re-explained it according to Grace, what's in Matthew 6 is what we have to go by.

Sometimes people can be counseled by their Pastor and make an effort to repair what is broken. It requires co-operation by both parties. All I can really offer, is that you are not breaking faith with Jesus. Talk with your Pastor anyway.

    Book of Joel, Chapter 2

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your DAUGHTERS shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the HANDMAIDS in those days will I pour out my spirit.

Large scale or small scale; people are waking out of their slumber, to preach the return of Jesus. IT IS NOT useful to criticize the preachers gender. I the past , God has even used donkeys or asses to get HIS WORD out to its intended.

We are to encourage each other!! Not strip us down to bones so we become useless. People are falling over like dominoes every day because, where are the encouragers?

It was Mary Magdalene who snapped the Disciples out of their fears and encouraged them to Go See For Yourselves: HE IS RISEN!!!

If you cannot be an encourager to those WHO WILL, GO YE.... go hide in your house with your Bible that has quit speaking to you.

But Jesus would say, be healed, be re-filled and anointed anew with the power of the Holy Spirit; to carry the Gospel and encourage others to join you.

Jesus talked to one outcast Samaritan woman (Gentile) and in the conversation told her of all the secrets of her life. She runs to her village and testifies what happened, and they all run back to Jesus to meet this man of GOD. It says the entire town got born again.

God is doing a brand new thing now. Keep your eyes on him, and let your opinions go. DO what Jesus is doing.

I would like you to the following verses 1Timothy 2:12

    1Corinthians 14:34-35

    Titus 2:1-15

I believe you can guide me well through the power of the holy spirit
  • Nike - In Reply - 2 years ago
No, a woman should not preach; it is not Biblical: 1 Timothy 2:12.
  • Rob - In Reply - 2 years ago
Read 1 Corinthians ch 14 verses 33 to 38 . Women are not permitted to speak in the church or even under the law .

    It's the Lords commandment .
  • Glenn - In Reply - 2 years ago
Welp , they have , an they do ,.. some of the greatest teachers an leaders have been women,.. it's written,. An hey, why are people so troubled with this ?
  • Nike - In Reply - 2 years ago
The spirit of rebellion is not of the Lord...

    Matthew 7:19 - 25

I provided scripture from the Word of God to answer the question posted on this thread. If you have an issue with that I suggest you take it up with God, not with me.
  • Rob - In Reply - 2 years ago
Nike I agree with you on this matter , it's not popular these days but the NT is clear .
  • Glenn - In Reply - 2 years ago
I mean no harm or to change any of your beliefs,.. but , Gods word makes it clear , woman have not only taught but also lead men into battle, under Gods help ,.. Debbie , was a great teacher, an a great warrior,.. in 2nd kings chapter 22 , you'll find a woman hul-dah. Who actually ran a school, teaching the Old Testament,..
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
You're correct Glenn, that women were mightily used by God in both the OT & NT. But when we come to these verses about women not teaching or to be in subordination to men, it is only spoken of in relation to the Church. See also 1 Corinthians 11:3,10.

We can't equate any OT practice with the NT Church pattern, because the Church is based upon Christ alone & the administration & conduct of His Church are the responsibilities of those directly under Christ's headship. But this never negates the ministry of women in its many aspects, within & without the Church nor their equality to men, as children of God together. This is the pattern laid out for us: we can choose to adhere to it or refuse it. Many Fellowships disregard much of the teachings in this respect; we are not called to judge them but we have the option to stay or leave according to our understanding of the Word.

Hey, Nice Name, Forgive me for not addressing you by it but the site might not let me.

But l would like to draw you guys attention to something, First of all I believe you are correct and the context of the question and answer is PREACHING.

Glenn mentioned TEACHING. There's a difference between the two.

Here's two scriptures to keep in mind.

    Titus 2:3-5. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, TEACHERS OF GOOD THINGS;

( THAT THEY MAY TEACH THE YOUNG WOMEN.)to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

    AND.

1 Timothy 2:11-12. LET THE WOMAN LEARN IN SILENCE WITH ALL SUBJECTION.

BUT I SUFFER NOT A WOMAN TO TEACH, NOR TO USURP AUTHORITY OVER THE MAN, BUT TO BE IN SILENCE.

So in a way you are both right.

Now I believe this to be in the body, The structure in the universal Church, Whether at home or away.

"Elder women or to teach the younger to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

But they are not to teach in general. How are they going to teach when they are asked to be silent?

BUT THAT DONT MAKE THEM NO LESS VALUE THAN A MAN BECAUSE THEY ARE ONE.

A Marriage should model Christ and the Church.

    God bless.

S Spencer Amen brother there is a major difference between the two. God Bless
  • S Spencer - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Amen Sister.

    God bless and goodnight.
  • Glenn - In Reply - 2 years ago
That verse , women are to be silent,.. that has no gender, it's a mis-interpretation,. Simply meaning , when God's word is being taught, there should be no chatter, or disruptive nonsense going on , we are to listen, an pay close attention thank you
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
If that verse ( 1 Timothy 2:11) reveals a misinterpretation, could you say what the word should be? In Greek, it's the same word used in both that verse & verse 12.

Chris I was curious looked up word for woman which is gune that's long e so If I go by context woman is both woman or wife now in eastern culture husband was head of the house period, even In the synagogue men were in charge and when you think about it God put women here to be mans help meet. So my bottom line is Biblically men are the leaders in the house and supposed to be in the church. Trouble is these days things are a little off, I'm being nice spiritually most movements out there totally go against Gods Word.
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
I agree with what you've written Dianne. The leaders in the synagogues (Rabbis), as in the OT Temple, were always men, as they not only followed the pattern as laid out by the Lord God, but they also took on the deeper study of the Scriptures & other classical texts of Jewish scholarship which were out of reach to the ordinary Jew. I believe that is still the case today, with some exceptions.

And therefore in the Church, this pattern was also followed, with Apostle Paul giving further reasons why this was so. Even though there has been evidence of women teaching or preaching in the Church from the very early days (including in non-mainstream Churches), it was not until the 19th & 20th Centuries & then the onset of the world wars, when men were drafted into service, leaving the pulpits empty, that women were compelled to fill the gap. And with the push for women emancipation, it seemed reasonable that women would begin occupying pulpits. And as with so much in society, when something begins to be accepted & becomes the norm, Truth & adherence to it, becomes remote & pointless & anyone who calls upon believers to return to the 'old paths', are looked upon with disdain. Fortunately, believers still have a choice as to what to accept as right & proper.
