verse 20, the way it is described in the commentary says God condemns us if our heart does, I always thought that is meant, the opposite. I have a hard time forgiving myself for backsliding for so long staying away from our Lord and sinning for years knowing it was wrong as i did it but i have since repented and turn completely away from my former live but still struggle with the past. I though this scripture meant that even though my heart condemns me God is greater than my heart and knows all things and knows i've repented and has forgiven me. Self -condemnation is a horrible way to live no joy, no peace but i used to take comfort in that scripture knowing that God had not condemned me even tho my heart does. I've not found a timetable for how long a backslider has before he has no chance to come back, and if I am an apostate why am I under such conviction? I'm in that place where I cannot move stuck in the most miserable of places, am i not accepting forgiveness or can i not get it anymore?

Lost 1 on 1 John 3... Jesus took away ALL of your sin on the cross! If you believe that with all your heart and might, why do you think you are still a sinner? You said you repented of your past sin. You are a NEW creature! His FREE gift of Righteousness to you through faith. We are now of HIS Nature, not sin nature. Second, join the club on regrets. But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Philippians 3:13 The best is yet to come! Holy To The LORD!

If our "conscience" ACCUSES us after we've already repented and asked for forgiveness; then your Accuser is Satan. His mission to steal, kill and destroy. That voice that accuses is, is spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6

You need every piece to protect your self.

Have you read Luke 15, about the Prodigal son (or daughter)? If that describes your experience, then you are forgiven and may now turn and freely embrace Gods Love and forgiveness. He saw you coming back home to Him, way before you did.

You are hidden in His hand and he's not going to let you slip away. The robe the prodigals father put on him, is the robe of righteousness (you have right standing with God again). The adornments are Gods favor which had never left you; no matter what you did.

It's the willful repeated backsliding that burns holes in our conscience. If you stop feeling that conviction, it is Much Harder to return to the Father who loves you perfectly.

That nagging you feel is The Holy Spirit at work in your conscience to help you Will to return to right standing. Cling to Him with all of your strength.

We mess up daily (even me :), which is why we run to 1 John 1:9, to confess those things and be forgiven. A psalm says that the Lords Mercies are new and refreshed towards us every morning! We can start our days thanking and praising Him for that.

Our forever home is in heaven. We're not to love this world system that is going to pass away. We begin living our lives for heaven now. Do the right things. ALL of heaven is on your team cheering you over the finish line!

If you sin you have an Advocate with the Father. Jesus. If satan accuses you in court, God hears the case. Your Advocate (attorney) checks The Lambs Book of Life for YOUR name. It is; and the case is dismissed for lack of evidence; be cause all of your sins are covered by The Blood of Jesus!!

Reverence this knowledge. Keep it close.

Pray & Praise daily, the Lord of Glory.
