I need help understanding Moses ten commandments and what the point is behind each commandment. Cause some of them seem ridiculously difficult to obey in my life. For instance, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

    Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

So I was considering this commandment with all seriousness and I even got rid of my teddy bear which i really love man and is actually super expensive. I threw it in the trash. But then i realized there are even more things in my apartment that are likenesses of things that are in the earth beneath. My cans of beans have likenesses of stuff that's in the earth beneath. I mean beans are in the earth right? My box of peaches have likenesses of peaches. Don't the milk cartons have likenesses of cows? I mean. It makes me want to say G*d damn. Seriously. What the hell? My freaking oats have images of quakers man. This stuff is stressing me out and I'm wondering if there's any point to my worship of the Lord if I don't even keep his commandments.

It is also written in the word that All things are lawful but all things edify not. Did i just throw out my teddy bear for nothing?

    Desperately clinging to the Faith.

Yep. My grandsons teddy bear is in his playroom holding baby teddy.

You're upset, so calm down. Allow rational to prevail.

I've said it before: ask the Holy Spirit to view your belongings WITH you. If He locks eyes on something or cringes; you can decide how to handle that. He knows what we have.

I had to BURN astrology books that were 4 inches wide. I wiped out my bookcase so only a Bible was in it. Non-evil books were donated to a library. Acts 19:19

Idols are mostly, statues of Buddha, zodiac items, violent music, sexual theme things; tee shirts with images that are unholy; let Holy Spirit look at your books and computer.

I had to toss a piece of driftwood that looked like an evil cow head on Monday.

Point is that demons use those objects as permission to hang around them. They're in the house till you force them to leave. The Holy Spirit will protect you also, and you have angels that minister to the heirs of salvation. Are you an heir of Salvation?

We all know what can be considered offensive. As you are able, you'll want to deal with it.

When we get saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, the demons leave for a time. But they come back periodically to see if you really were serious. We're suppose to clean our spiritual house and furnish it with the Bible inside of us; garnish it with praise and gospel music you like. When I first got saved I listened to Petra, Dion, Darrell Mansfield, Carman (went to my church).

My life turned from blackness and thoughts of death to, Light, extreme joy, new friendships at church, new music, I mean it was pure joy! It's been 35 years and my relationship with Jesus is the sweetness of my life. Never dull either. I'm still learning just like everyone in here. I started out in evangelism almost immediately. I still love it.

Try to figure out why you are upset? Is it spiritual or life ganging up on you? Let me know if I can help because I care. I know Jesus cares for you too. No matter what

What would Jesus do? Would he have a teddy bear in his home and bow down before it to hug it?

What would God think of my actions? Think and meditate on this for yourselves. Don't tell me what you're thinking.

I already have my answer. Thank you guys for sharing your feedback.

Ray - do not be stressed, and please stop throwing everything you own out. Just don't worship your can of beans. The Jews were notorious for making Golden Images, statues and such, and bowing down to them. Be thankful for all all the Lord has given you - directly from His hand. The 10 Commandments were give to Moses to be presented to the Israelite's - His Chosen People. (Many people are going to have a hard time with this post, but we are in the Church Age). Read Roman's - we are ALL under sin, and can not overcome, so stop trying of your own strength - we are weak, and He is strong. Which is why Jesus lived a perfect life, was crucified for our sins, and rose from the dead in triumph over our sins. Many people will want to keep you "in captivity" with there posts, but you have been freed from the law by Jesus Christ. Read very carefully - the NT - the Epistles of Paul. You will find a vastness of freedom to bring the Jews to jealousy. Read Romans slowly, and trust what you are reading - with much prayer. Please understand who is being spoken to in each chapter of each book. We can and should learn from it all. Who God is, what He has done, and what He is going to do. Simply Trust in Him, and be at Peace.

Hi Steve B, I don't worship my can of beans or even my Teddy Bear. But I do bow down to hug the teddy bear. And I felt the Lord was offended by this. For I felt like bad luck was coming my way.

Ray, I just want to concur with everything Steve B has said even though you may get other comments concerning the obedience to the Laws given to Israel. I have had some backlash in this respect, but I have yet to find any Scripture that tells us that we have to come under the Law, which served to only point to our sins & impossibility to be saved by the keeping of it. Therefore, we have the entrance of our Saviour, Whose death freed us from the weakness & damning nature of the Law & brought us freedom & power to fully obey God through the Life giving Spirit. So please be assured that the 10 Commandments are helpful to know God's Mind & His Will for His people Israel & of course a good rule of thumb for our governments, but for those under the New Covenant (both Jew & Gentile), we have been 'freed from the law of sin & death' ( Rom 8:2).

So as a Christian Ray, what does God's Spirit tell you in your heart concerning the worship of God, your Father? If you're hearing the same as I do, we need to humble ourselves before Him, to direct our worship to Him alone, praising Him for the giving of His Son for our sins, & to ask Him to lead & direct our lives in the way of right living. In other words, your worship & your life itself has its focus only on your Father in Heaven. Any objects that you have in the house are just that - objects. Unless, they are there representing images of the Deity which prompt you to look upon them as objects of worship, then these objects are not the cause for sin.

I perceive that your conscience is very sensitive & your desire is to please the LORD in every area of your life. But, at times, we can be too harsh with ourselves, carrying us into the realm of fear & anguish of spirit for what God might think or do; when in fact, it could well be Satan trying to keep a hold on you, trying to rob you of the liberty you have in Christ. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" 2 Tim 1:7.
