When the Bible speaks of women covering the head, is it talking biblically to cover with the spirit of the Lord ? Or an actual head covering before we pray?

1 Corinthians chapter 11 gives the ruling on head covering, of both men & women. The instruction is clearly that of a physical head covering & the reason for that is because of the order of creation (Christ is the head of man, as man is the head of woman) & for the observance of angelic beings in our corporate worship (v 10). This instruction was never to be a burden for women, as in those days particularly, it was quite natural for the head to be covered. But there may have been some who refused to do so, & therefore this instruction was given. And this applied to men who wilfully refused to remove their covering. All these actions were dishonouring to the Lord & showed contempt for each other.

Why is this not generally practised today? Various reasons are given, chiefly because of it not being culturally done/acceptable in general society, except for protection from the sun or for fashion at events. Each one of us must be convinced in our own hearts over this matter & to be careful not to be in judgement over another thus falling into sin.

Isaiah 30:1 is referring to the Holy Spirit as the only legitimate covering for a person.

1 Chorinthians 2 Verses 1 and 2 are an exhortation to follow Christ. Verses 3-15 state a practice that was prevalent

in the Chorinthian church and the reasons to justify it.

Verse 16 states that what is described in verses 3-15 does not come from God - 'But if any man seem to be

contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.'
