Hello, Jesus's first miracle was turning water into alcoholic wine which was at a party, as confirmed by this verse: John 2:10. Since Jesus did this I do not believe it is a sin to drink moderately. However, it is a sin to get drunk. It's also a sin to lead others into temptation or to stumble, for example, a recovering alcoholic is with you and you order a drink. 1 Corinthians 8:9-13

Adam, I agree that it is a sin to get drunk because we're to be sober-minded. ( 1 Peter 4:7, 2 Timothy 4:5).These people weren't drinking moderately because they were already drunk. If it is a sin to be drunk, why would Jesus give them more wine if they were already drunk They bring out good wine first, and after everybody has been drinking for a few days, if they run out of the good wine, they bring out the cheap stuff. Nobody knows the difference because they are pretty intoxicated by then! They ran out, and were given 120 to 180 gallons more. If they're already drunk, and are given another 180 gallons of wine, how do you conclude that since Jesus did this, it's okay to drink moderately

I would like share my thoughts on whether or not a Christian should drink alcohol. When I learned the literal definition of the word faith meant persuasion, it gave me a whole new look on things. I used to drink alcohol, even as a believer. You see, as believers, we live by faith, or more literally from out of faith, as a source. Romans Chapter 14 says that that which is not of faith is sin. When I know that faith means persuasion, I come to realize that anything I do, which I am not being persuaded by God's Spirit to do, it is sin. I think of faith as the presence and activity of God's Spirit in a believers life. What is He persuading me to do Is He persuading me to take that drink

Jesse: I think the key word is MODERATION. If that is difficult then try abstaining. I know without a doubt that God delivers people from booze and drugs. He did for me. The only problem is telling people you've been born again with a beer in your hand. There are scriptures that say your freedom from law may hurt someone else who isn't as secure about salvation. You have a witness to protect. Your changed life is what other people are checking out. After I got saved I started going to church. My party friends came to take me out but I'd say hey why don't you come to church with me Sunday! They stop coming around. I was sad but God gave me all new friends :D I love Jesus huge.

Mickey, I agree. I hope I didn't give the impression that I have been born again but still drink. I quit drinking back in 1993. I have friends who drink and I've even been told by them that it's okay to have a drink every now and then. I guess every now and then to them would be considered moderation. I don't believe the Lord says it's okay to drink alcohol, even in moderation. Now I'm not telling any believer that they shouldn't drink. That's between them and the Lord. But if a believer wants to know if it's okay or not okay to consume alcohol, the question should be what is the Lord leading them to do Is He leading them to drink If not, then maybe that's their answer.

There are Scripture references to this which are general warnings. The first one we cite is: Ephesians 5:18 "Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit". Apostle Paul warns of high consumption of alcohol which leads to loss of self control & sin, but rather to be filled (drunk) with God's Spirit. A believer filled with the Holy Spirit is truly a joy to be near rather than one who is inebriated. Other references: Luke 21:34, Romans 13:13, 1 Corinthians 5:11, 6:10, Ephesians 5:18, Genesis 9:21, 19:30-36, Proverbs 20:1, 23:20,30,31, are some for you to look at. So, alcohol is not prohibited per se , but warnings are given which should alert us to its use/results.

    Here are the scriptures on strong drink you asked for: (some abbreviations) Eph. 5:18, Proverbs 20:1 & 23:29-35 , Galatians 5:21, 1Corinthians 6:10, 1 Thess. 5:7, Romans 12:12, 14:21, Isaiah 5:11, Psalm 104:15,
    1 Peter 2:11-12
I know it's ok to eat meat but when it becomes gluttony, it's not a good witness. Write these in pencil back of your Bible
