Tithing- subject in Sunday school. The question does everyone have to tithe. ? Many mostly yes " a 10th of the first we make. My answer was there was no tithing required after the Abrahamic Covenant. That it was a for the Jews when they came into the land of milk and honey. The Jews were given plenty. But non Jews and widows and orphans had nothing. So it was a responsibility for every Jew give a tenth of their first fruits, vegetables, sheep, agriculture stuff. It was to be taken to an actual storehouse so the Priest to give to those needing. But things changed. Tithing mentioned only one place in the new testament and it was Jesus about this couple who only gave a10thof spice. Can you help?

Understand we are not under the old testament law when looking into scripture, good study , don't let your new testament giving be limited by the law of the old testament. let your heart and faith determine your giving restrictions not a law. let your love and burden for doing gods work guide you. end of story. where will god limit your giving?

All the law of the old testament was voided including the 10 commandments; 9 of the commandments were restored in the NT 4th commandments left off, Remember the Sabbath... Tithing was not part of the law.

I believe tithing is for everyone. It started with the jewish nation but I believe it is for all nations. This conclusion I came by

after reading the book of Malachi, chapter 3,verses 8-12. This opportunity before God was to be a blesssing to his people

ultimately the enire nation of Israel. We of the nations are entered into the blessings of Abraham through our lord JESUS

    CHRIST. Blessings

Tithing was nothing more than a tax system in the old testament. It isn't a new testament command or principle.
2Co 9:7 KJV Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Tithing isn't mentioned in the New testament except in Hebrews and the subject in that passage isn't about giving, but rather about Jesus and Melchizedek.

If an individual wishes to give a percentage then let them do so with the verse above in mind. Because it's in their heart to do so and not made or dictated to.
But even in that it's still not based on a certain percentage. It can be any percentage or specific amount like 50.

I believe that tithing is a form of faithfulness to the church in which you attend. Jesus told the parable of the woman who gave two mites as giving more that a rich man because it was all she had. Since I began tithing-years ago-I can see the blessings of God in my own life and I think he shows that if you shall give then you shall also receive and what we bind on Earth, we bind in Heaven and what we loose on Earth, we loose in Heaven so I give and I believe that there will be blessings for acknowledging that God gives me all I have and I am thankful by giving back a percentage of what I am given. I love my Father and I am a cheerful giver and I encourage others to do the same.

The woman gave all she had and if you're going to use that as the principle of giving them we should do the same. In the passage I posted giving is showing one a faithful steward but only if the giving is from the heart and not grudgingly or of necessity. We give expecting nothing in return. If anyone gives with the intent they will receive in return it's not biblically. I agree giving is a biblical principle but tithing in the new testament isn't. If you choose to call your giving tithing that's up to you. But if we're going to use the biblical principle of tithing then we have a lot of problems. It went well beyond 10% and didn't include money. I guarantee you no one tithes biblically.

I'm not one to argue because I believe we all seek out our own salvation but Luke 6:38 tells me to tithe... Luke 11:42 says you ought to have done. Now, if you don't see it the way I do, then don't do it but you should never tell someone that it's not in the Bible until you see the scripture how it is intended for every single person God created. I have a definite difference in my life since Jesus is the center of my universe and I would give all I have if he told me to. What I get back is between me and my savior because all good i receive, I get from him and obeying him has increased all that I have....and yes, it is deliberate tithing from the joy of my heart.

I agree I'm not arguing the Bible. Yes I do know what the Bible says and where it says it about tithing. However Luke isn't actually new testament in that they were still under the law and the church hadn't been established and couldn't until after Pentecost. As I said no one tithes according to the Bible. If we are going to follow the biblical principle of tithing and take the stand that it is a biblical principle that we should follow today, then we should follow it exactly as the Bible teaches. As I said no one does I can guarantee you that lol. The new testament principle for giving is recorded in the scripture I posted earlier. I love to discuss the scriptures but I do so carefully.

Betty, this is a hot issue.
    Malachi 3:10-12
    Mathew 6:1-4
    Luke 11:41-42
    Luke 12:33-34
    Hopefully that helps

Those scriptures while speaking of the old testament law of tithing are still old testament law and before the church begins. What we are looking for is the new testament principle of giving and that is found not only in 2 Cor. 9:7 but also in Acts 5. The reason for the tithe in the old testament was simply a tax system that was to support the Levites because God had commanded them they were not allowed to own land or work but to serve continually in the temple. Not only did the Israelites tithe but there were also offerings apart from the tithe. The tithe not only consisted of monetary means, but also of possessions like livestock, food, Land etc. So if we are to tithe we must follow it all
