What exactly is a Proud Look as mentioned in Proverbs 6:
  • Brenda - In Reply - 4 years ago
Having inordinate self-esteem; possessing a high or unreasonable conceit of one's own excellence, either of body or mind. A man may be proud of his person, of his talents, of his accomplishments or of his achievements. He may be proud of any thing to which he bears some relation. He may be proud of his country, his government, his equipage, or of whatever may, by association, gratify his esteem of himself. He may even be proud of his religion or of his church. He conceives that any thing excellent or valuable, in which he has a share, or to which he stands related, contributes to his own importance, and this conception exalts his opinion of himself. proud is followed by of, before the object

God commanded us to love others as we love ourselves and we are indeed to love ourselves. If we don't take care of ourselves we have little left to give to and help others. Sadly some mistake self love with pride or a sin. Pride isn't the same as self esteem; self-esteem is positive and we should hold ourselves in high regard as well as others. Being proud of ones country and their church and groups is also a positive thing. There's a sect of culture currently attempting to shame and punish people for feeling good about themselves, their heritage, where they live, and this deceit isn't from God. "Proud look" is more likely pretentiousness in how someone dresses instead of modesty.

Adam- I ran out of run, however, this is the definition from Websters Dictionary 1828. The question was asked and this is the definition.
