First part of your question, you say "call you home" He won't call you anywhere if you die before he comes back, if you die, that's just it you will sleep until his return, back to dust, the dead know nothing. So there for, your wife first of all knows nothing, then you will know nothing until his return.
Soul sleep is a highly controversial thing. Many briliant scholars believe it, many do not.. From whence did Endora call up Samuel, from his rest. Experiential things such as near desth on a surgery table, coming back after seeing loved ones. Perhaps the difference is before after Christ's resurrection. I lean towads no soul sleep after Jesus resurrection. If not, it's ok i'll just be asleep.
I don't know what Bible verse addresses this but I've heard of many testimonies of people who have passed on and then who have been brought back to life who say their loved ones where there to greet them. There have even been movies made about this.
