This verse can only be understood by revelation, this is because that very portion is a mystery. The mystery of iniquity there is referring us what happened in the garden of Eden that it's only by revelation that someone can understand it is sex that took place there. So God is still revealing to his people through aposttle Paul that the mystery to iniquity doeth already happened.

How could sex be the mystery of iniquity? And if so how could the human beings reproduce and subdue the earth as God commanded them? The sin at Eden was a literal fruit as any other fruit. Only that through it was God needing obedience from man. Eve was alone when she first ate the fruit before taking it to Adam. Genesis 3:1-7. And even today the devil is attacking marriages for he knows when we are separated from our spouses it is easy for him to conquer. The mystery of iniquity was the doctrines of men which led people further away from God. Which also the serpent preached to Eve convincing her to take the fruit.
