    Kinsman Redeemer.

    Part 10.

It is Jesus the Christ that is our Kinsman-Redeemer.

The kinsman Redeemer had two main functions, that of redemption of man, and the justice of avenging evil and sin against His people, Israel.

It is Him that came the 1st time to redeem the world with His blood, and it is Him that will come the 2nd time as the Avenger of blood to save Israel and destroy His enemies wherein the justice of avenging evil and sin is performed.

This is why it is so important that we understand that Jesus was the ultimate example of faith.

He did right what Adam did wrong.

He trusted God even though He would die.

He allowed Himself to become a man, after having spent eternity as God.

On the promise that God would resurrect Him, and restore Him to His state, that Christ would sit in God the Father's throne, until all was fulfilled; and Christ would come the 2nd time to redeem Israel, destroy his enemies and then will sit on the throne of David("And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David" Luke 1:30-32), a throne that He was ultimately meant to rule from (for thousand years until always completed and there is the new heaven and new earth Revelations 20:2-6), for a thousand years.

    Endnotes

    1. Deuteronomy 25:5-10; Ruth 3:9-12; Genesis 38:8.

    2. Numbers 35:12; Deuteronomy 19:6, 12; Joshua 20:3, 5, 9.

    3. HOLMAN BIBLE DICTIONARY, Trent C. Butler, Ph.D., Holman Bible Publishers, Nashville, TN, 1991, page 848.

    4. God in His wisdom had set up a system where if individuals had no income or food, they could survive in Israel by going through fields after they had been harvested the wheat, and salvage the reminiscence that were dropped. This was referred to as "gleaning a field" ( Lev. 23:22).

    5. Ruth 4:5-10.

    See Part 11.

Greetings in Christ JESUS S Spencer

Yes, JESUS is our Kinsman redeemer. But according to the Word of GOD, there is a great mystery.

There are actually two redeemers: the main Redeemer and a secondary or subordinate redeemer.

The main Redeemer ( Ruth 4:4) is a Jew -JESUS- of course. Who is the other secondary redeemer or subordinate to the main redeemer, as revealed in Ruth chapter 4? And what is the inheritance of each of the redeemers? By the way, the secondary redeemer told the chief Redeemer-JESUS: What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess,... And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar MINE OWN inheritance: redeem thou MY RIGHT to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. Therefore the kinsman said unto the secondary redeemer, Buy it for thee. (Great mystery)

    Job 19:25-29

25 I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the LATTER DAY upon the earth(that is the seventh and last Day or seventh and last milennium, the millennium of Christ and of the Judgment Seat of Christ)

26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see GOD:

27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another...

29 Be ye afraid of the Sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the Sword, that ye may know there is a Judgment.

Revelation 11:18 - 18 And the NATIONS were (will be) angry, and thy wrath is come(GOD's wrath comes), and the time of the dead, that they should be Judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest DESTROY them which destroy the earth. (This prophecy will fulfill LITERALLY from now on. Get ready you all)

    Hi Femi.

I don't believe there's any mention of Boaz having other wives, but which knows.

I believe the story of Ruth and Boaz is to give us a model of a kinsman redeemer.

We study Ruth we have a better understanding of Revelation Ch 5 and 6.

    God bless.

Was Ruth the only woman Boaz married?

There seems to be several times that occurs throughout the Bible, Is it to show us to view each person individually? Several were opposites, yet similar; is that to inspire us to be our best? Luke 7:19-28,

Interestingly Saul, Saul/Paul, 1 Samuel 15, Acts 13:9, Saul continued to do wickedly, Saul/Paul repentantly changed Acts 8,

    Tamar, Tamar, 2 Samuel 13, 2 Samuel 13:19-20, Genesis 38, 1 Chronicles 2:4, Ruth 4:12,

    Manasseh, Manasseh: Joshua 17:1-18, Genesis 48:14,20, 2 Chronicle 30:11, Psalms 108:8, Jeremiah 15:4, 2 Chronicles 33:1, Isaiah 9:28, 2 Chronicles 33:10,22,

Lazarus, Lazarus, John 11, John 12:10, John 12:1-3, Luke 16:20, was one rich one poor?

    Etc.

    This week's Bible study is Genesis 37 & 38.

Genesis 37 is Joseph's dreams and Joseph sold into slavery.

Genesis 38 is Judah and Tamar.

It's strange that the Joseph story gets interrupted by this sordid incident in Judah's family.

It's significant that Tamar is one of the few women referenced in genealogies and these are the in the lineages of David, King of Israel and Jesus, The Messiah. Other women in these genealogies are Rahab, the Canaanite harlot, Ruth the Moabite and Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, the Hittite.

It's amazing that Moses recorded this about 400 years before David and 1400 years before Jesus. Chuck Missler of Koinonia House points out that the names of Boaz, Ruth, Obed, Jesse and David appear in order in the characters of the Hebrew text at 49 (7*7) letter intervals in chapter 38.

The specific incident was that Judah fathered twin boys by his daughter-in-law. So Pharez would be considered to be illegitimate.

"A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:"Deu 23:2-3

Turns out, according to Ruth 4:18-22, that David was the tenth generation from Pharez. Yet "I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will," ( Act 13:22) despite the edicts of The Law.

"He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end." Ecc 3:11

"I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him." Ecc 3:14

I welcome your insights and comments.

If you're thinking of Ruth's first husband who died, his name was Mahlon (see Ruth 4:10). But she later married Boaz ( Ruth 4:13) who served as a kinsman-redeemer to keep the family line going in Israel.

Mahlon & Chilion were Naomi's sons. They married two Moabitish girls: Mahlon married Ruth ( Ruth 4:10), so Chilion must have married Orpah.

From a little research I've done, I understand that whenever a sale of property, or some type of transaction was made in those days (this was later discontinued), the custom (not law) was that the seller of the land took off his shoe & gave it to the buyer to indicate that he fully relinquished any further right to that property. The shoe signifying the feet that walked on that property would no longer walk (& own) it. Later, it became customary to use a veil or handkerchief instead; & my thoughts: because there would have been a lot of grumpy men getting about town with only one shoe on, & either being a spectacle of laughter or jealousy as money was just made on a sale. Then there is Deut 25:5-10, where this custom gets even uglier, where a man is also spat upon, on top of losing his shoe. I'll let you read about it.

Could you tell me more about this custom, please? Where it came from? Why shoe? What it represents? Do you know of any articles about this custom?

    Thank you.

Does anyone know what the name "Obed" means? Also, since Ruth was a young woman when she married Boaz, I suspect she was around when David was a boy. She would have been his great-Grandmom? She may have been instrumental in his spiritual development, teaching him to know and love the God of grace...?

This is my second time reading through Ruth. I am trying to read all of the bible, and a dear friend suggested I start with Ruth because our conversation at the time was related to our relationship with our mother . God bless Ruth because she was loyal and faithful, but I wonder that the main character here is not Boaz. His character is remarkable for his honor and love, as well.

David; The House of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the Commonwealth! The Gentiles (Japheth) are blessed to dwell in the Tents of Shem, whose is the LORD God. The innumerable multitudes of the nations of the saved are made near by the blood of Christ, which has broken down the WALL that before divided the Jews and Gentiles. In Christ that wall is taken away but all will still have their own countries.
  • David Johnson on Ruth 4 - 5 years ago
This story which is so beautiful is a type of Jesus and his mainly gentile bride which he also redeemed with his precious blood. Like Ruth we also deserved not Gods favor but were saved by grace through faith that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works least any man should boast. thank God....

BSP; that's a wonderful point! It is an example of a very great lesson for us about the nature of our Father in heaven and His kindness and mercy and forgiveness. In the Law it was written that the children of Moab were not allowed to come into the inheritance of the Lord in Israel because they met them not with mercy but hired Balaam against them. But Ruth was released from that word by her love!
  • BSP on Ruth 4 - 6 years ago
Ruth's loyal love was with a great reward. She had a chance to become an ancestress of Jesus Christ.

Someone on the commentary back pgs. asked the meaning of v. 12. If one reads the genealogy at the bottom of the ch. it's easy to see the meaning; it ends with David; Jesus was the "root and offspring" of David. God the SPIRIT created David; David created the line for Jesus the man (flesh of God) to be born from. ALL the fullness of God was in Jesus.
