    Hi Brother Rick,

I appreciate your response and sharing of scripture.

Regarding your judgement comment, I don't think anyone is saved from the final judgement, and it is not wise to be too confident. Me, I will continue to pray for wisdom - wisdom to FEAR GOD, the more fear the better!

    Luke 12:5

"But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him."

We do well to remain humble, and keep with us a healthy dose of ongoing FEAR! The fear of God will keep us in subjection, and obedience to His Spirit.

    God Bless

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

I noticed some comments posted that sound like they are only a breath away from denying the Lord. God's Word and 2 Peter 2:1 is for them. Luke 12:5. 1 Timothy 6:12.

Some sound upset that God demands obedience, and some feel entitled to do what they want as if there's no ramifications. John 14:21, John 14:15, James 1:22, Proverbs 16:18.

    Hi Earl,

It sounds like you're using a single speculative assumption to suggest that hell isn't real despite the multitude of Bible verses about it?

If you believe in Jesus, wouldn't His words carry more weight than a single speculative idea? Jesus talked about hell plenty, including in: Luke 12:5 - so do you not believe Jesus?

I'll address your comment in 2 parts:

    1. You wrote: "If it's real and punishment for sin, why didn't he tell them of this place."

Maybe He did. How can you prove that He didn't? The Bible also never mentioned Adam & Eve going to the bathroom or bathing or using basic hygiene. Does that automatically mean they didn't? It also doesn't say they were "human beings" so does that mean they were lizard people or space robots? The Bible doesn't say its even a Bible, so does that automatically mean it's not one? When people use logic of what 'wasn't' said or a logic of omission, some tend to draw false assumptions and illogical inferences from that.

    2. You wrote: "Why is it that HELL only shows up when the Hebrew scriptures are translated to other langues."

That's untrue. How did you come to believe that?

Jode & everyone I'm sorry to intrude in your discussion earlier, with world view & opinion hopefully it wasn't unwanted. To add to the Biblical discussion I pretty much agree with most answers given. I also do not believe it to be the 'Mark' however through wisdom of this time & everything we are witnessing & experiencing we are all much more wise to see how in the future 'the beast' may try to play out that 'Mark'.

    Matthew 24:24, Matthew 24:1-51, Daniel 9:21-27

I also do not believe Matthew 24:15 has yet happened, but we're told to be watchful

    Luke 12:1-59, Daniel 11:24-45, note Daniel 11:35, Daniel 12:1-13, Ezekiel 39:11-29,

    * 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17 the 'great falling away' hasn't happened yet either

    Hopefully these are helpful

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Luke 13:23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Luke 12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

(I love what Jesus says, it's so easy to understand) There is only one hope (Jesus) he said be ready.

People's Bible Notes for Matthew 12:31-32

The blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven. Compare Mark 3:28, Luke 12:10. Much discussion has arisen concerning the nature of sin AGAINST the Holy Spirit, and nothing is plainer. Mark 3:30 explains it. IT IS YOU SAYING Christ's works are through demon power. These works were wrought by the power of the Holy Spirit. See Luke 12:10

Underline Isaiah 18:1 in your Bible

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

You need the spiritual covering of a Church. Don't feel like you have a bulls eye on your back. It is the Pastor/or Pastors wife, job to pray with you on issues like this.

Swearing, taking Gods name in vain (cussing) are not death sentences. Keep coming back here so we can be of help and fellowship. I love you in Jesus Name.

Jesus said in John 14:15, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." So, if someone says anything that seems contrary to scripture I won't believe it, but believe God's Word. When I hear those saying things like obeying God is bad or following any law is bad, I think some nuances of the meaning are missed from Romans 6:15-18 which says not to yield to sin that you were servants to sin, but now are to be servants/slaves to righteousness. Being "free" from sin isn't a free pass to sin. John 8:11. I feel a moral duty to post scripture about this, because Christians hear this in church then go out and get drunk, do drugs, have sex outside of marriage, party, and enjoy following the world. They do that, because they are under the assumption that it's ok, because people (including pastors) keep telling them it's ok since they're "not under the law"- that they're free and can do whatever they want with no consequence. The problem is the Bible doesn't say that. Jesus says you should be concerned and fear the one who can send you to hell. According to Jesus, Christians and anyone else following the world of sin instead of Jesus should be afraid. Luke 12:5. Those who don't obey Jesus don't love Him. Those who don't love Him may not have to spend eternity with Him. God bless.

Do you think God is senile or remiss in How he chooses to deal with the WHOLE HOUSE OF ISRAEL?

So you need to explain why God seems not to move boldly and decisively? Woe. Is He to blame for turning his face away, as Jesus hung on the cross bleeding out for the sins of mankind.

We were just uncircumcised Gentile dogs, until we received His Salvation; prepared before the foundation of the earth. By His death, we're we grafted into his death and resurrection.

How do we smugly stand here and think ourselves better than the Jews? You skipped over the part where it says WE ARE ALL GRAFTED INTO ONE TREE even JESUS CHRIST.

    Ephesians 4

3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of ALL who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

That's his plan. If we do not pray for the (known Will of God Almighty)pray for the peace of Jerusalem the scales will fall from eyes and earsthey will finally see their Messiah. I wanna see a real Jewish style hoedown in Heaven :D (Can you tell I'm Texan?) lol

All these things we write about our Jewish kin, will be reviewed at the Bema Seat. Faith in Gods Word helps us put off prejudice and put on Praise.

Everything I know comes from sitting in a closet with the Holy Spirit. I cannot convey with words how close we can get to Him. All he needs is one person to believe in his mission from Jesus. Jesus brought Him to us at no small sacrifice. He didn't baptise us and load us up with reference books. He gave us the Holy Spirit!!!

    Luke 12:31-32

Did you notice that the Tree of Life was moved from Genesis to the Book of Revelation?

Hi Rick, if you haven't seen that then great- it's best to not be exposed to that if not on your guard with the armor on. Plenty of people here say we don't have to worry about avoiding sin or even trying. They say human effort of any kind is bad. This is a false teaching. It involves taking a verse and distorting it to mean the desired outcome, while ignoring a mountain of other verses which are commands to be obedient. Some also falsely assume that just because you do good that you're now trying to 'earn' salvation- nope- we're saved by grace. But Christians are called to follow Christ and be obedient and deny the sinful self. Following Christ is an action. It is a huge responsibility. Some assume they have zero responsibility and can do whatever they want.

I have attended plenty of churches that teach this- where one Sunday you get 'saved' then you're done and don't have to do anything anymore. Then you're told that if you try you're bad or legalistic. They would call Jesus legalistic though for John 14:15. We must beware of false teachings from satan. I know a Christian who will probably be committing fornication tonight and has for years. The pastor taught him he's saved and doesn't have anything to worry about. Is that true?

Then you read something like Romans 6:15-23 that says while we're free from slavery to sin, we're not totally free, but instead slaves (servants) to righteousness. And sinning is "no big deal." But it's very big deal to God. God hates it and sinning is like slapping Him in the face and spitting on Him. That is a very different message than some are Christians are saying. So, those who believe they don't have to try as a Christian probably has a false sense of security and need to heed Jesus's words: Luke 12:5. This warning from the Bible is spread here in love so that all will get right with the Lord and be saved. There's only one truth- and I'd rather lean towards following God than following man's ideas.

Brother Rick, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and His understanding.

I'm not sure what you think the soul is; if it's not our body of dust, with life by the breath of God.

Leviticus 7:27 Whatsoever SOUL it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that SOUL shall be cut off from his people.

Luke 12:19 And I will say to my SOUL, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat drink, and be merry.

Job 16:4 I also could speak as you do, if your SOUL were in my SOUL'S stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

Leviticus 23:30 And whatsoever SOUL it be that doeth any work in that same day, that same SOUL will I destroy from among his people.

Deuteronomy 14:26 And thou shall bestow that money for whatsoever thy SOUL lusted after, for oxen, or for sheep, of for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy SOUL desireth: and thou shall eat before the LORD thy God, and thou shall rejoice, thee and thine household.

With ALL due respect, We are talking about our souls spending an ETERNITY somewhere. I'm going to be serious. We as Christians are commissioned to spread the Gospel, the Good News, (or as Jesus put it in Matt. 28:19 commanded). I will be held accountable "to whom much is given, much is required...." ( Luke 12:48) I believe Jesus said it and I don't want to lead ANYONE astray. So I am going to find, study, search out, ask, PRAY, what the Bible says. Yeah, I'm serious. With much Love in Christ, God Bless. P.S. Matt. 28:19 says: "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost;(all prepositional phrases describing the name), there was only one name that the Spirit begottened, there was only one name that hung on the cross, there was only one name that resurrected, there was only one name that was going to be used to send the Comforter to us ( John 15:26), there was only one name that lived, died, rose again, and is coming back for His bride (the church), and that name was, is, and will always be: Jesus Christ. God Bless.

    Amen Brother Jess.

I believe everything you just said.

I believe the level of fruitfulness behind the works of a believer is important. The purpose behind the action, Is it inward or an outward performance of self glory or righteousness. As the Lord said to the Pharisees.

" Matthew 23:26. Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also."

As well as obedience to the will of God.

Luke 12:47-48. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

I believe a non believer will be judged by their deeds APART from the atonement of the provided sacrificial Lamb of God.

Possibly divided by what by what they heard or seen.

Luke 10:13-16. Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

    God bless.

The Holy Spirit is Your TEACHER

The desire for Jesus is in you already. The Bible is the Word of God. Like these following scriptures show us: with your own spoken words, ask the Holy Spirit to make His home within your heart, To be your Teacher. Thats his ministry to you. You will know He is teaching you. Open your mouth and speak: "Holy Spirit, come alongside and teach me what this passage means?"

Begin in the Gospels and stay in there until you know who Jesus is to you; what he likes; doesn't like; listen to his replies to people. How does he love?

    John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remem-brance, whatsoever I have said to you.

    Luke 12:12

For the Holy Ghost shall TEACH you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

First Peter 3:15; "be ready also to give an answer" = Here, the word "answer" translates from the Greek noun root (transliterated "apologia"; pronounced "apo-log-EE-ah"), and from which, derives the English noun "apology."

This term originates the Christian Theological field of "Apologetics" of which a person, described as an "apologetic", defends True, Biblical Christianity with truths and proofs, which usually involve definitive and convincing arguments used to refute contradictions against it.

Compare the word "answer" to its synonymous expression "earnestly contend for the Faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude v.3).

When using the same definition above, the Greek root "apologia" also translates into either "answer" or "defense" in the following references:

    Luke 12:11-12;

    Luke 21:14-15;

    Acts 22:1ff;

    Hi Norman,

I think all Christians struggle with the temptations of sin. Paul wrote about his struggle: Romans 7:19

In my opinion there's a difference in a Christian genuinely trying to follow Jesus and occasionally messing up and getting a little off track...

    VS.

A Christian who assumes he's saved, because grace, and now feel entitled to sin as much as he wants, because grace. He used to follow Jesus, but doesn't really think about it much anymore. He calls himself a 'good person' by his own standards. He enjoys the world, enjoys indulgences (sin) and rationalizes it as being OK. Then puts the world first pursuing fun, money, status, and following Jesus becomes a lower priority. He assumes he's going to heaven, because grace and his actions don't matter anymore and he's a 'good person'.

In my understanding, the Christian who knows he's a flawed sinner and desperately needs Jesus's grace and follows Jesus and tries to emulate Him and apply His teachings is on solid ground. The fact that someone cares and is thinking about it is a heathy sign: Luke 12:5. Sounds like you fit in this category. Remember Paul killed Christians and was forgiven, so no sin other than blasphemy is too great to be forgiven, if genuine repentance.

But the Christian who already assumes he's all good, and uses grace as a license to justify committing unlimited sin and following the world instead of Jesus, I believe is in danger.

Jesus warned His followers (Christians) over and over about heaven and hell through His parables, etc. That few people will go to heaven and most will go to hell.

    Matthew 7:21

Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,"

James 2:14-26 "...faith, if it hath not works, is dead..."

James 2:19 "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

    Dear Jesse,

My point was that Jesus's words were and are for all, and your point is that they aren't. Then I ask you to backup this with scripture and you dodged and asked me that. Just so I understand, your argument is that not all of Jesus's words and message is for everyone, such as to Christians? If Jesus's mentions about blaphemy don't apply to Christians, then what else do you think doesn't apply to Christians? What process do you use to determine which of Jesus's words then apply to you?

Your other argument seems not based on scripture, but merely an emotional speculative one about you not feeling capable of certain sin. That's great if you feel protected, solid, and have your armor of God on at this time. Just because you personally don't feel you're capable of something at this point of time doesn't mean it's impossible for someone in general to falter. Anyone can be tempted by satan. Plenty of Christians have had affairs, lied, done drugs, coveted, even killed, followed the world, and have even backtracked and drifted away from Christ. It's a strange argument to claim to deny that Christians have freewill to sin, and have the freewill to commit horrible unspeakable acts, including blaphemy.

    >I DO NOT believe I have any right to live a lifestyle of sin because I'm saved regardless. You are going to be very hard pressed to find someone who believes they can "commit unlimited sin, and enjoy sin, to live in the world, to love the world, and assume they have a get out of hell free card?"

It's hard to comprehend this as you appear to live in another world. Christians are rampantly involved in sin. It's absolutely sickening to see. I know a Christian right now who has premarital sex, watches porn, and does drugs and stopped going. According to you he can have total assurance of salvation with zero concern? What if he kills? What about blasphemes? No worries? If so why did Jesus say the opposite to Christians? Luke 12:5, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Hebrews 10:26
  • Adam - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 2 years ago
Kathy, you asked where in the Bible it says that salvation can be lost and someone was kind enough to respond and show you exactly where. Some of the questions were already answered on the reply.

I will go ahead and reply to your specific questions again in hope that this could be a genuine question.

    >If salvation can be lost, by what means?

Luke 12:10 says blasphemy of the holy ghost is unforgiveable. That means if someone chooses to commit this sin, Christian or not, they will not be forgiven and will go to hell.

    Hebrews 10:26

"For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,". This means if a Christian continues in unrepentant sin they are in danger of having no grace to save them.

    >Those scriptures you gave are misquoted.

No, they are not misquoted. When you hover over them they show the 100% correct scriptures. When I referred to them I highlighted the portion of scripture being referred to by using elipses... For proper context one should read the whole chapter and book.

    >Here you have my salvation but you practiced free will and sinned so I retract your salvation.??? Really?

Is this an emotional argument being presented against the Bible? You will have to take that up with God. Luke 12:10 is clear and there's not much room to interpret it any other way. I'd be quite surprised if Christians who have denounced the faith, turned their back on God, who hate God and have chosen to commit unlimited sin, are welcomed to spent eternity with God in heaven. Likewise, what Jesus said in John 14:15 is clear. If someone doesn't obey, that means they don't love Jesus. Do you expect ho doesn't love Jesus go to heaven?

I've also heard an illogical argument claiming that real Christians can't or won't deny Jesus, as if they no longer have freewill. If this were true then there wouldn't be "ex-Christian" social media forums. Prominent Christian evangelists have denounced the faith before. Satan is real and can deceive Christians.

    >Salvation at judgement?

    Romans 14:12. 1 Peter 1:13, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 2 Peter 2:9
  • Adam - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 2 years ago
Hello, if that's true then how does that reconcile with Luke 12:10. Do you not think that committing blasphemy of the holy ghost would separate you from Christ?
  • Jb - In Reply on Hebrews 10:27 - 2 years ago
Ray, If you've accepted Jesus as your saviour, then you have not committed the unpardonable sin.

Rejecting Jesus is the unpardonable sin

    Luke 12:9

But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

Speaking out against God isn't unpardonable, denying him is.

    Luke 12:10

And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

And if you are in Christ Jesus, you are not condemned to anything.

    Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

If you confess your sins to him, he will forgive you.

    1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

And if by any chance you're scared God might take your wife or kids away, remember these:

    Matthew 19:6

Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

    James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Just confess your sins and ask for forgiveness and don't worry about them any more; God will forget them.

    Psalm 103:11-12

For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. [12] As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

But don't use that as an excuse to continue in sin..

    God will chastise you.

    Romans 6:1-2

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? [2] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

    Hebrews 12:6

For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

If you are ever tempted to sin again, read 1 Corinthians 10:13

No one is saved until after they are judged on the day of judgment. We can have hope and assurance of salvation if we genuinely follow Jesus, but the Bible doesn't say anywhere that you will be saved regardless of your beliefs, faith, actions. Does that mean 100% of all people are saved, even Hitler and mass murderers? Jesus said most people will go to hell, so that doesn't square up. He even said many will cry out Lord, Lord, assuming they will make it to heaven, but won't. He even warned his followers (Christians) to obey and not fall into sin. If everyone was saved regardless, then it's unlikely Jesus would have warned so many people with parables.

This one verse Luke 12:10 says whomever commits this sin will not be forgiven. The idea of once saved, always saved contradicts itself, because it assumes a person who becomes a Christian no longer has freewill, which is untrue and inconsistent with the Bible. Even angels in heaven had freewill and chose to rebel, like satan. So, just because someone responds to an altar call and decides to follow Jesus doesn't mean he instantly is stripped of freewill. He absolutely still has a choice every day of who he wants to follow: Jesus, or the world (satan). Sadly, too many Christians have denounced their faith and have turned to follow the world. Becoming a Christian doesn't give anyone a license to commit unlimited sin and those who have spread this lie is doing the work of satan. There are many verses in the Bible supporting this and are posted often in the discussion threads.

1 Peter 1:13 "...hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;"

    Romans 11

    John 14:15

    John 14:15

    Luke 12:5

    James 2:14

Some emphasize some verses over others which frames their beliefs, but all verses in context need to be taken into consideration. Some tend to emphasize grace and deemphasize works, but it's both just as it says in James 2.

One of the devil's biggest lies is deceiving believers into thinking they don't need to actively follow Jesus and don't need to do anything. If that was true, I don't think Jesus would have warned his followers (Christians) so much through his parables. The Bible talks about keeping strong in the faith, armor of God on, striving for the fruit of the spirit, running the race to the end to get the 'prize'. We can have assurance of faith if we're genuinely following Christ (a Christian), but no one receives salvation until we are judged after this life. If people think they've earned a get out of hell free card and can just sit back and do nothing or follow the world and commit unlimited unrepentant sin and still get to heaven that would be a devastatingly false assumption. God bless. Matthew 7:21

    Great, thank you Richard.

What I was hoping to compare is the word for fear in 1 John 4:18 (perfect love cast out fear) vs. Luke 12:5 (fear him... who can cast you to hell).

So, I found Bible Hub has a Greek interlinear comparison and found the following:

1 John 4:18 (perfect love cast out fear): fear = Phobos/phobon (fear, terror, alarm; object or cause of fear; reverence, respect.

Luke 12:5 (fear him... who can cast you to hell): fear = phobthte (to frighten, be alarmed by. By analogy, to be in awe of; Revere.)

It appears to be the same root word, but just like in English its common to have different meanings for the same word, like the word 'conceive'. So, I believe at bare minimum fearing God means to be in upmost awe of and reverence. The context of being afraid of the one who can send you to hell seems to indicate a dose of real fear as well, maybe similar to a child being afraid when they risk doing something wrong and fear punishment by their parents, but I think this is different than fear/terror that perhaps is used in 1 John 4:18, that perfect love will get rid of that.

Interested if anyone else has another perspective on this.

In reply to " The 1st commandment is to LOVE God not fear him"

The Bible says many times to fear God. The Bible doesn't say to "not" fear God as you put it. 1 John 4:18 seems to suggest love and fear and opposites. Maybe these are mutually exclusive when it comes to how we treat others, but maybe God in an exception. The Bible clearly says to love God and clearly says to fear God. Therefore, I'm inclined to believe that it's both. Some say the fear means a high level of respect rather than a petrified fear. If anyone wants to compare the original Hebrew or Greek to see if its the same word or not, that might be helpful.

    Proverbs 9:10, Ephesians 5:21, Jeremiah 32:39, Luke 12:5, Leviticus 25:17.
