    Sister Jema:

    Good questions.

Does God tell us not to do something, then turn around and CAUSE US to do it.

    YES!

God told the children NOT TO marry outside their tribe.

Samson was told by his mother and father that GOD SAID NOT TO marry a Philistine.

Judges 14:4 But his father and mother KNEW NOT it was of the LORD that he (God) sought an occasion AGAINST the Philistines.

God told David NOT TO number ISRAEL:

2 Samuel 24:1 ...and God MOVED David to go and number Israel.

    God Bless YOU!

OSAS: Another character in the "hall of fame" of saints from Hebrews 11.

Sampson. Hebrews 11:32 mentions Sampson in passing but doesn't elaborate on the subject.

Judges 13 gets into the beginning of the story of Manoah and his wife who had an angelic visitation from God announcing the birth of Sampson and the prophesied deliverance from the Philistines that his life would enable. Interestingly the angel appeared both times to the woman and it seemed this unnamed wife had more sense than her husband who was convinced they would die after such a visitation. Perhaps Sampson's upbringing in such a household led to some of his irrational behaviors as he grew up.

Judges 16 shows where Sampson ended up with Delilah; who ultimately sapped his strength to the point where he was blinded and no longer able to resist his enemies who were using her against him. He had lost his wife according to Judges 14:3 after they killed her following his vengeance in killing 30 Philistines. This tragedy could have been avoided if he had married within his people. He would continue to follow his affections; yet somehow God saw that he had genuine faith. This is perhaps best illustrated when he deliberately gave up his life in knocking down the pillars of Dagon's temple in Judges 16:29; and kills more Philistines than he did his entire life previously.

How we end life clearly is important; if the rest of our life is screwed up but we end it well then we can enter into heaven; the other extreme exists for those who turn away at the last minute; sadly a friend of mine said that was the case with his mother after being in a home where believers surrounded her the last few months of her life she turned away from the faith.

The examples in the last few posts show how God knows the heart; we can never be sure someone can't turn at the last minute but certainly shouldn't count on it. Matthew 7:20 shows us how in time we can see those who are truly saved by GOOD FRUIT.

Brother Adam; it is reduced to God doing everything; otherwise, God IS NOT SOVEREIGN.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God (Spirit) that WORKETH IN YOU BOTH to WILL (his will is made to be your will) and TO DO his good pleasure.

Did Esau have a choice, NO, the WORD had already been spoken (before the foundations of the world) before they were born. The older would serve the younger.

Did Judas have a choice, NO, the WORD was spoken before he was born that he would betray Jesus.

Does mankind have a choice to NOT BOW and CONFESS Jesus is Lord, NO, the WORDS have already been spoken. It is ONLY now a matter of everyone's APPOINTED TIME for the WORKS to be FULLFILLED.

One of God's rules in the Old Testament was that Israel WOULD NOT marry gentiles; yet it was God that made Samson want to marry a gentile woman, going against his own rules.

Judges 14:1-4 But his father and his mother KNEW NOT THAT IT WAS OF THE LORD.

He made EVERYTHING and EVERYONE for HIS PURPOSE.

What IS NOT OF FAITH (of Christ) is SIN.

Grace is totally the WORK of GOD. It has nothing to do with how good or bad a person is. Paul was KILLING GOD'S ELECT (as was Hitler), grace saved Paul; yet man screams Hitler will burn in Hell. Why does man appoint grace to just some people (mostly themselves), when God says he is no respector of persons.

Paul knew the WORKS were ALL OF GOD.

Colossians 1:29 Wherefore I also labour, striving according to HIS WORKING, which WORKETH in me mightly.

Jesus KNEW the Father was doing EVERYTHING in him, that is why he didn't sin.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin.....

Hercules? Never heard of Samson before. Torn a lion apart. Amazing. God's strength in him.

    Charles Jordan,

You are correct! Satan will knows and exploits our weakness.

However, Samson was not beguiled (as Eve was) and led astray by the Devil, because:"his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he (Samson) sought an occasion against the Philistines?" ( Judges 14:4)

The Bible reveals that (certain parts of) the life of Samson was guided by the LORD.

Samson only took one wife ( Judges 14:3); not many.

Keep praying; keep studying my friend

Greetings, NO there is no Hercules in the Bible. That was a Greek myth of when the gods came down from heaven and found mortal woman beautiful and married them. (shades of Genesis 6?) Hercules would have been only half human.

Samson however was in the Bible and he had extraordinary strength. He was a judge in Israel in the time before Israel had kings.

Judges 14:1 records the start of the exploits of Samson and tells of his victory and failures.

honey is not a unclean food. The only thing that Sampson did wrong that I can see is that he took to wife a woman not of his people.

"But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel." The LORD God knows ALL that is in man; and He knows ALL about our circumstances, and who they are, and what evil they imagine against us. Let US not be afraid of what we see coming on the world. It is the LORD! Praise Him!

Samson tore a lion in two in verse 6. When one has power from God then he or she can do things they would not normally be able to do in their own strength.

    To understand Judges 14
    Read John 4: 32, Judges 14: 5 -18, Rev 10: 10, Isaiah 30: 17, Matt 21:5:

I hold meat to be eaten that you have not perceived.
The truth is both stronger than a lion and sweeter than honey
It is both sweet to say and can be hard to swallow
The truth can kill or it only stings a little
Turning death to life like mourning with a fiddle.
  • Anthony Sims on Judges 14:9 - 8 years ago
Samson was a Nazerene. Eating the honey from the carcass of the lion he killed earlier was a sin. Nazerene men were not allow to consume unclean food or drink. Samson opened the floodgates of hell by eating honey. This is much more than a story about a haircut and slaying philistines and chasing women. I was once a meth addict, now I am healed. It 's not only the meth I must stay away from, but I must be AWARE of the sweet honey satan tempts me with. The devil uses the smallest of sins to lead us back down the road to destruction. Also reference Proverbs ch. 5. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Jesus heals! Jesus saves! Jesus loves! Hallelujah!

That lion which Samson collected honey from wanted to kill him but the revealation of this scripture is that what seem a battle today will be a blessing tomorrow.

it seems to me, that if you are a child of Israel you can kill people who are not children of Israel this seems to be the common thread through out the old testament. why don 't they have to follow gods commandments, but everybody else have to follow them?
  • Timothy Wayne George on Judges 14:19 - 10 years ago
This is not crazy, for the LORD God had put it in the heart of Sampson to kill the Philistines. This is not murder, for Israel is at war with the Philistines. Sampson's manifest destiny is to begin to deliver the children of Israel from the hands of the Philistines. Yet Sampson did compromise on his vow, for he was not to come near a dead body, and this compromise lead him to other compromises that ultimately caused him to lose his power. In the end Sampson killed more Philistines in his death, than he did in his life. This story is a lesson to us not to compromise with sin, and to live a holy life separated to God, and his people. We must stay in fellowship with the Father so that we will have power to overcome the enemy.

    @Jael,
It sounds like youve read too many mystical books. Just stick to The Word and God shall reveal its secrets to you!
  • Jael on Judges 14 - 12 years ago
This chapter reveals the mystic origin of all scripture: it demonstrates clearly the process described in Exodus 3 wherein Moses having refused God's demand to be the Almighty's voice on earth a system of "Chinese whispers" is established instead which completely misses out the metaphysics - the essential level of truth which distinguishes the authentic Word of God from mere literary genius. In this chapter the eternal truth of the image has given way to a concept involving physical violence, carniverous behaviour and a complete absence of self- awareness, all of which are characteristics classified among the negative in true scripture.Editing of the original metaphysics occurs for several reasons (1) ignorance of the editor (2) deliberate distortion or omission for commercial, political, racial, or military reasons (3)psychological inadequacy of the editor who in the presence of superior intellect feels a compulsion to assert his or her own identity. Thus are people denied access to Eternal Truth in the name of personal ego which produces atheism disguised as piety and "responsibility"
