Discuss Job 23

    Psalm 1 -conclusion

"For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish."

Job was a righteous man. " But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold."( Job 23:10) His patience was a virtue, which was not his patrimony but taught of God in the midst of the fire that tried him daily. 'Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful."( James 5:11-ESV) Do we not see faith in the manner he received it each day? He did not change his stance while to his friends it smacked of mulishness to hold on still to righteousness. It was obvious to the whole world 'here is a wreck, in body and worldly goods! Instead of speaking what was right they did injury to holiness of God to which we shall come anon.

Was Job guilty of pride, to hold onto his righteousness? He knew faith in God's mercy that made him weather the storm about his hearth,- for daily it came in waves. His unfortunate wife was lost in the domestic tragedies she could not understand. St James speaks of mercy which has the righteousness of the Son and also a form,- this was the fourth presence in the story of the Three Hebrew Children Thrown Into The Furnace. Only with experience or growing in grace we begin to appreciate the verses in the Book of Lamentations. "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;/ they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."(Lam.3:22-23). In a nutshell the grace of Jesus Christ works from within, and 'Christ in me' is not making a show for fools. Consider Jesus who refused the Jews who would want a sign from him. We are living in the same similar wicked and adulterous generation. Till he comes to gather his saints we shall see fools of the same stripe, only that they call it 'prosperity.' They are the chaff.

    Job 23:14

For HE (the Father, Spirit, Life) performeth the thing that is appointed for me (the Body).......

Philippians 2:13 For it is God (the Father, Spirit, Life) that worketh in you (the Body) both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.

Ephesians 4:4 ONE BODY .....ONE SPIRIT .....

Ephesians 4:6 ONE GOD and Father of ALL .....

Not many BELIEVE that the LIFE in their BODY is CHRIST.

Matthew 7:14 Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, that leadeth unto LIFE, and few there be that find it.

John 10:10 .....I am come that they might HAVE LIFE ......

John 19:28 I give unto them ETERNAL LIFE ...

1 Timothy 6:18 WHO only (CHRIST ONLY) hath immortality, dwelling in the LIGHT which no man can approach unto .....

John 11:25 I am the resurrection, and THE LIFE .....

    John 14:6 ....I am THE LIFE .....

John 20:31 ....and that BELIEVING you might have LIFE through HIS NAME .....

Revelation 22:4 ....and HIS NAME shall be in their foreheads .....

Revelation 3:12 ...and I will write upon him MY NAME .....

Acts 2:38 ....be ye baptised every one of you IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST .....

John 17:21 That they all may be ONE, as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also be ONE IN US ......

    God Bless You.

    Is Job 23:14 about predestination?
  • ELB - In Reply on Psalms 103 - 1 year ago
Sister Suze, we are the body, Christ, the Word, is the LIFE in US, the body.

Christ said when you need a word to speak or a scripture to quote it will come to your mind, because THE WORD is the LIFE of the Body (YOU).

    PROPHECY:

Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my SPIRIT within you, and CAUSE you (the body) to walk in my statutes, and keep my judgements, and DO THEM.

    FULFILLED at pentecost:

Philippians 2:13 For it is GOD (the life) that WORKETH IN YOU both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.

Your (the body) lips move because the life (Christ in You) CAUSES them to move.

Job 23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandments of HIS LIPS (you are ONE with Christ)(LIFE is Christ and BODY is You).

Job 27:4 My (yours and Christ) LIPS shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

Job 2:10 ...in all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Psalms 12:4 Who (one with no knowledge of truth) have said, With our tongue we will prevail, our lips are our own: who is Lord over us.

We were PREDESTINATED to be the IMAGE OF CHRIST.

John 5:30 I can of myself do nothing ...

Christ is the BODY that holds the LIFE of the FATHER.

John 15:5 .....for without me you can do nothing ....

WE are the BODY that holds the LIFE of Christ.

John 17:22 And the glory that thou gavest me I have given them, that they MAY BE ONE, even as WE ARE ONE.

Is it not mind boggling to walk in TRUTH.

    God Bless YOU!

    Job 32:6

And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

    Job 32:10

Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.

    Job 32:17

I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.

There are three times in the KJV that the English word "opinion" is used, all in Job 32. The book of Job is a book of arguments. The word "arguments" is found only one time in the Bible, also in Job.

    Job 23:4

I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

The English word "arguing" is also found only one time in the Bible, in Job.

    Job 6:25

How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?

Job and his three friends all expressed their opinions and argued in support of their opinions but God rebuked all four of them in the end for the errors in their thinking. Elihu was not rebuked and he was the only one of the lot who did not come across as one who is right and everyone else was wrong. He gave his opinions (which were right), called them his opinions, and offered for any of the others to prove him wrong after he spoke.

Elihu was right and should be a lesson to us about arguing our opinions in front of others. Give our views as our views and genuinely and politely allow others to express opposition with their arguments.

    Bill,

In Job 23:12, it says "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips, I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food."

What really is necessary, Spiritual food, or physical food? We eat three times a day or more, plus dessert. How often do we eat spiritually and feed the soul? Very interesting!

In John 4:32, after the disciples brought physical food to Jesus, they said to Him, "Master, eat." Jesus answers and says, " I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

I don't know if you have ever experienced this before, where you are physically hungry, you are physically tired, but then in some way, shape, or form, God ministers through you to someone else, or from someone else to you, and whatever physical hunger you have or physical thirst you have, it doesn't make any difference! You forget about the physical hunger and you are no longer hungry.

The spiritual food is contentment in and of itself. You are not as hungry as you used to be or as starved as you used to be. Now what is interesting here is that remember the woman left her water pot behind.

Jesus said you just brought physical food from the city, but I have food to eat that you know not of. He ministered God's word to this woman.

    Hope,

In Luke 4:4, the devil was appealing to Jesus' condition. He knew that Jesus was physically hungry from the 40 day fast and in verse 3 he was appealing to Jesus to make the stones turn to bread so that Jesus could satisfy His physical desire. Jesus says that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Wow! Yes, but you are hungry, physically hungry. But what an answer that Jesus gives.

I can look back and remember many times when I was either late or didn't show up someplace because I hadn't eaten yet. What is another hour? What is another two hours? But it is interesting that Jesus said no, you don't misuse the authority of God to fulfil the desires of the flesh, even though the desires of the flesh are going through its natural process. No food!

In Job 23:12, one of my favorite verses, Job says "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food."

Wow! God's word means more to me than my necessary food. Notice that he didn't say abundant food? He said it is my necessary food. God's word means more to me. Those words that come out of His mouth, I am more hungry for that than I am for physical food. So Satan challenges, and Jesus gives the citation.

Suzanne, May the Spirit grace you with his understanding of his words:

Do Gods creatures have FREE WILL; or, are we the WORKS of the creator?

Ephesians 1:11 In whom (Spirit) also we have obtained (by grace) an inheritance (children), being predestinated (you have not chosen me, but I have chosen you. John 15:16) according to the purpose of him (Spirit) who WORKETH all things after the counsel of HIS OWN WILL:

Philippians 2:13 For it is God (Spirit) which WORKETH in you both to WILL and to DO of his good pleasure.

Colossians 1:29 Whereunto, I (Paul) also labour, striving according to his (Spirit) WORKING, which WORKETH in me mightily.

Isaiah 26:12 Lord, thou (Spirit) wilt ordain peace for us: for thou (Spirit) also hast wrought (WORKED) all our WORKS in us.

Isaiah 44:26 ......that PERFORMETH the counsel of his (Spirit) messengers....

Psalm 57:2 I will cry unto God most high that PERFORMETH all things for me.

Proverbs 16: 33 The lot is cast into the lap (we were predestined); but the whole disposing (WORK) thereof is of the Lord (Spirit)

Proverbs 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord (Spirit), as the rivers of water: he (Spirit) TURNETH it (man's heart) whithersoever he (Spirit) WILL.

Job 12:9 Who (man) knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord (Spirit) hath wrought (WORKED) this?

Job 23:14 For he (Spirit) PERFORMETH the things that is appointed (predestined) for me....

Job 23:10 But he (Spirit) knoweth the way that I take: when he (Spirit) has tried me, I shall come forth as pure gold.

Hebrews 4:3 For we which believed do enter into rest.....the WORKS (we are the works of the Spirit) were finished before the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 4:11 Let us (works of the Spirit) labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of UNBELIEF.

May the Spirit grace you with his wisdom.

    Job 23:16

For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me..

    Isaiah 32:4

The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammers shall be ready to speak plainly.

    Isaiah 32:5-6

The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

Believers, this is our day (today), especially here in North America.

    Job 23:16

For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

    Job 41:3

Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

    Psalms 55:21

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

    Psalms 65:10

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

    Proverbs 15:1

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

    Proverbs 25:15

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

    Isaiah 38:15

What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

    Matthew 11:8

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.

    Luke 7:25

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

    *********

I didn't find any soft headed people. I'm not sure what that means biblically either.

What version of Bible are you using?
  • WHAT DOES GOD LOOK LIKE - In Reply on Luke 14:26 - 3 years ago
God is Spirit. There are MANY scriptures on God being seen. If you read it slowly, you will see the description is in imagery.

Go get some pen & paper and write down these scriptures; then you can read them and picture God in your heart when you pray.

    John 1:18, John 6:46, John 5:37

    1 John 4:12, 1 John 3:6, 1 John 4:20

    1 Timothy 1:17, 1 Timothy 6:16

    Luke 1:31-32, Matthew 22, Romans 1:20

    Philippians 2, Hebrews 1:1-13,

    Colossians 1:15

    Deuteronomy 4:12, 15. Exodus 3:6

    Exodus 33:20-23

    Isaiah 38:11, Isaiah 64:4

    Job 9:11, Job 35:14, Job 23:8

This is a ps from me: if you have "pictures of God" (some artist imagined) in your home? You need to get rid of them,

According to Exodus 20. That's not a photograph of God and is considered to be a graven image. Crosses on the wall is ok, but not images.

I have 1 still life painting of a bowl of fruit and a pitcher of water. It makes me think of eating a meal with Jesus.

Verse 103: How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea sweeter than honey. As I read this verse my mind went to Job 23:12, Neither have I gone back from thy commandment of His lips, I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. Think of it. We have to eat to live physically, and it's no different in the spiritual realm. Those who eat of it of it once a week, and then just an appetizer, will flounder in their walk at best. When the storms of life come, they have no foundation on which to stand. Those like David will eat the meal and come to the desert, or the richer things found in scripture, they will soar with God. When they face trials or temptation, they are ready to endure them.

"My foot hath held his steps". It is interesting to note that the author stated, my foot holding the steps of God and not his feet holding the steps of God. What I feel the spirit of God is saying is that, along with walking, our feet also help us maintain physical balance of our bodies. Especially if we, the body of Christ, are pushed or stumble while walking along a path, the path God has ordained us to walk. When I realize that I am in trouble, because one of my feet is straying from God's chosen path, one foot stays firmly planted while the other foot is trying to help maintain balance until both feet are again firmly planted following the steps of God.

My mind went immediately to Psalms 19: 9 10. 9B states, the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether, vs. 10 More to be desired are they, than fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Any person who devotes themselves for the right purposes to the study of scripture, will develop a insatiable love for it, that will not be extinguished. The more they learn the more their faith is built up and as Job said in Job 23:12 I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

    Job Chapter 23
Is teaching all of us because no one in the world is not tested by God. To prove my theory Jesus taught us that we pray that don't lead us in temptation but deliver us from the evil.
How do we know the testing from above beyond our understanding? We have to bear our pain without complaint but to be calm and not to give up believing. Job was a good man of God so he suffered for us in order to learn from him.
That's why these peoples mentioned in the Bible are the chosen one of Israel.
