Discuss Jeremiah 10

    "Pots"

"Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold."

In a broader sense pots are a metaphor for physical bodies. God commands Jeremiah to instruct the nation with the earthen pot, "Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,/ And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again."(Jer.19.10-11).The psalm is referring to the soul of man which is like a dove. "And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest."(Ps.55.6) Gideon's ragtag army won the battle, "And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon."(Judg.7.20) The sword of God was what the army carried within the pitcher or pot. Our soul merely because is hidden does not mean it has no role. For anyone who trusts in God and obeys him the soul is like a dove with silvery wings tipped with gold.

Earthen pots signifies brevity of earthly expectations. Instant gratification that rules over the worldly shall know how foolish they are. ""As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun./Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath."(Ps.58.8-9)

In the day of wrath these pots shall be smashed with a rod of iron."(Rev.19.15) God set Jeremiah at the eastern gate, pointing to the end times. "The valley of slaughter where God has prepared a feast, "and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth./And I will make this city desolate, "(Jer.19.2,6-8)

Hello Robert. I wasn't able to follow your request. If you were looking for the meaning of 'gay', we see this word only in James 2:3, where the understanding should be, of a person wearing "goodly apparel" (v2) which implies clothing that is clean, expensive or with intricate tailoring; unlike the one who wears "vile raiment" (dirty, torn).

And the other word you mentioned, "virgin", though appearing several times in Jeremiah, does not have the word "gay" connected to it. Could you clarify? Thanks.

    The Gospel - Part 1

Genesis 3:15 - And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 12:3 - And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Genesis 22:18 - And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.

Jeremiah 31:33 - But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Mark 12:29-31 - And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30, And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31, And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Acts 17:11 - These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

1 Corinthians 13:13 - And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-4 - Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2, By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

    3, For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

4, And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    Hello Fuji

There are many verses in the Bible that show the human nature of Jesus. But also there are many verses that show the divine nature of Jesus. Some of them are many parts of John's gospel (especially the begining) such as John 1:30, John 2:19, John 3:13, John 8:58-59, John 10:30-33, John 14:9-10, John 14:23, John 20:28, Acts 20:28, Titus 2:13, 2 Peter 1:1, Hebrews 1:8, Matthew 1:22-23, 1 Cor 10:9, Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1, Zechariah 11:12-13, Romans 9:1-5, and many other that I can not recall now. Jesus also accepted people to kneel infront of Him, something that is only permitted for God. Also compare Psalms 102:25-27 where it talks about God to Hebrews 1:10 where it talks about Jesus. Also compare Joel 3:5 to Acts 9:13. Compare Jeremiah 17:9 to Rev 2:23, etc.

So we have two kinds of scripture. One says that Jesus is human, the other says that Jesus is God. So what do we make out of these two? The obvious, that Jesus is the God, one person of the Godhead, who became man.

Lets think it in another way. We know that God loved people so much so that He sacrificed His own son for us. Now lets use another example. Suppose I love my brother and want to help Him. and the only way to help him is to give my own life for him. How does it seem to you that I would sacrifice instead of my own life, my son's life for Him to help Him? Why my son? And not myself? The most sensible thing is that I would sacrifice my own life for him, not somebody's else. That would be very egoistic. Somebody else to suffer for my intention to help somebody that I love? I think you can understand what I trying to say. So what did God do? He sacrificed Himself for us, one person out of the Godhead took on Him our nature, became a man and gave His life for us. So it is God's love that attracts people to Him. It wouldn't be love if He sacrificed somebody else, an innocent person's life, for his intention to save us. I hope I haven't done it so complicated to understand. GBU

    Mystery of God-inheritance in light

"But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light."(Eph.5.13). So we have the judgment of God and it before the light. " And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them." (Rev.20.11) Here we can understand why God began with light under the covenant. The earth that abides forever is lit by light of the Lamb. The world has no place there. The earth and heaven flees away from the face of God as Cain did. He was the wicked one.

God tells Abraham,"For the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full."(Gen.15.16). It shall be full only when God judgesfrom his throne of light. So what do we make of the extent of the nation promised to him. So Abraham lives," By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:/ For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." (He.11.9-10). These all died in faith.

Why did Israel went to Egypt in the first place. The wicked brethren of Joseph sinned 'against God and before thee'- and Joseph is set as a double for the Son in the covenant, and they had to be brought to light." The Jews rejected Jesus 'when God sent him as his only begotten Son' and they were scattered from their land in 70 CE and as with many times before, their diaspora is not the end of it. The land they now occupy is not according to the will of God."The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day." (Jer.42.19) Jeremiah's words are relevant even this day. They shall be thrown out as garbage,- and we are in for another big one, 2 Pet.3.11-13. 'This day' spoken by Jeremiah points to the day of the Lord. " Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens."

    Page 1. Woe.

If I could first address your last point here ( Matthew 5:18). Do you think that the previous verse (v 17, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil"), has some connection to verse 18? Clearly, Jesus is upholding the Law (i.e. what was given by God, & not those spurious laws the religious leaders imposed upon the people). He also states that the Law will abide forever. And He further states that His Coming to Earth was "to fulfil the Law (Gk. for fulfil is 'pleroo': to bring to completion). Yes, the Law was Perfect from both the Mouth & Finger of God, but Jesus came to finally cast aside what the Law was designed for & its intent, (and NOT its value & truth), which ultimately brought men under condemnation; Jesus came to fulfil the Law (& only He the sinless Son of God could), bringing it to finality & abolishment, thus ushering the New Covenant in His Blood. Two Covenants can never operate simultaneously, particularly where one led to hopelessness, helplessness and death; & the other availed to give life, hope & power in the Spirit.

Even Hebrews 8:13 reminds us of the finality of that Law: "In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away". And if we read earlier in Hebrews 8:10, "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people". (see also Jeremiah 31:31-33). Onto Page 2.

    Pt 2.

I didn't know we was debating your interpretation of this topic of election.

    You never started it!

I was just pointing out that the verses you selected in your series of God's attributes you are presenting to springboard the election topic is mis used.

This was your opening statement when you began this series.

"Here is my next posting to follow the post of last month. Again, i welcome your comments, corrections, or differeing thoughts.

You also asked me to explain my position as you have done. That will help you understand more fully my viewpoint.

    That's what I thought I was doing.

This is a debated subject and rely on scripture to be put in its proper context and a correct view of God' and his nature.

There's a lot more I am going to say on this important topic and on Jeremiah 31.

Replacement theology and how they the two co-exist in this topic.

However I will take that to a separate thread.

I will also await your response that you mentioned and I will reply back.

However we can cut it short here if you would like to so it won't be any back and forth.

    Blessings.

    Hi Gigi.

Forgive me for responding to this post so late.

I held off from reading it until now.

I don't read these debated messages until I'm ready to focus on them.

    Firstly, Thanks for responding.

Jeremiah 31:3 is not written "TO" anyone but Israel! It is a specific message "TO" them.

It doesn't apply to us as you stated, "God has loved us (His chosen) with an everlasting love"

Here is how the chapter starts.

    Jeremiah 31:1-2.

Everything is written for our learning but everything is not written TO us.

God is telling Israel why he is going to do that which is mentioned in the following verses.

    Jeremiah 31:4-7. and then-

    8) Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither.

    9) They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

Now look at verse 10! It's written to you and I and the rest of the world!

    10) HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD, O YE NATIONS, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.

    This is future!

    It Parallels with Jeremiah 16:14-15.

What you and I should take from that is that God keeps his promises.

If you were to go by what I seem to imply, God certainly cannot exercise His wrath or judgement on sinners because He loves the world (humans). This is not biblically sound and if it is biblically true, all people would be saved, but Scripture does not teach this.

Gigi that's far from anything I ever said.

I said, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" and the whosoever in these passages implies a invitation to EVERYONE!

    I will need more space.

    See part 2.

    Hi, S. Spencer.

Jeremiah 31:3 is the verse I meant.

Thank you for sharing a bit of your viewpoint.

Indeed, God does love the world. He loves all of His creation. And I did say that He does bestow common grace and mercy upon all humanity. Otherwise, we all would be consumed and destroyed the first time we actively sin. God has compassion on sinful man in many ways. However, Romans 1:18 does teach that God's wrath is upon all wickedness in those who suppress the truth. basically sinners. If I were to go by what you seem to imply, God certainly cannot exercise His wrath or judgement on sinners because He loves the world (humans). This is not biblically sound and if it is biblically true, all people would be saved, but Scripture does not teach this.

I said in my writing that God's SAVING grace and mercy and love is given to the elect, but not to those He did not choose for salvation. If you are of the Arminian persuasion you would be aware that they teach about God's prevenient grace and also saving grace. I agree that God's grace comes to humans in different ways with differing effects as Arminius taught. But I am not Arminian in my thinking. I used to be for many decades, because that was all I really knew. But when I began to examine its teachings against Scripture, I moved away from that.

You said that I cannot attribute something that is for Israel for Christians. This is a tenet of dispensationalism, but is not from the Bible unless you can give me a Scripture that teaches so.

I know that you had some other questions for me. However, I do not wish to get into a back and forth, picking apart each others' viewpoints. I would much prefer that you do as I did-study these topics according to what Scripture says and then present your developed viewpoint on this forum so that others can read both viewpoints and go to Scriptures to see which one better explains what Scriptures do teach.

I appreciate that you are engaging with me. May the truth win out overall.
  • GiGi - In Reply - 2 months ago
    Hello, S. Spencer,

I will speak to your last pint first.

God so loved the world. He loves His creation and is benevolent in administering His reign over it.

I believe that God loved the elect from before the world began and works in the life of the elect to bring them to faith and salvation. I do not believe that He begins t love us after we are saved. Jeremiah 3:13 says that God has loved us (His chosen) with an everlasting love.

As to your point about the "whosoever" of John 3:16 and the availability of salvation to all I believe that the Gospel is to be preached to every nation, tongue, and people. It calls people to be reconciled to God. Unregenerate people cannot believe the Gospel because they do not want to. They are unable to respond to the call of the Gospel because they are dead in sin and cannot please God or seek Him. Unless God does a work of grace in an unregenerate person, they will to reject the Gospel call and will to be at enmity with God. They are truly hopeless to come to Christ. I believe that only those who God regenerates are able to obey the call of the Gospel and that these people are the "elect".

For now, this is all I wish to write in this post addressing some of your questioning of what I have posted. I appreciate your response and will spend some time considering your other points.

I would like to ask one thing of you, though. Would you explain what you think about the topics I posted on, not to query me but to explain your position as I have done. That will help me understand more fully your viewpoint. Thanks in advance.

Here I expound on the details of God's love for us.

    Pt. 1

GOD'S LOVE IS THE FOUNTAIN OF HIS COMPASSION, FAVOR, GRACE AND MERCY

As we go on to discuss God's compassion, favor, grace, and mercy we can see that these all flow from His divine love. There is nothing in all of creation comparable to His divine love. It is so great, deep, faithful, and true. Believers can depend on Him to love them forever with a love that is beyond any love they can ever experience among people they know.

The reason that God extends compassion, favor, grace and mercy to His elect is precisely because of His great love that nothing can separate us from, ( Romans 8: 31-39) nor will God ever withdraw His love from His elect ( Jeremiah 31:3)! So, as elect believers we can ever rejoice that He loves us, though we are sinful, because His Son won for us the remission of our sins on the cross. Hallelujah!

I don't think we can every tire of meditating on God's love for us. Nor should we ever minimize it by focusing more on God's wrath for sin and sinners. God's nature is in perfect harmony with all of His attributes. Therefore, we should learn how to hold paradoxes such as His love and wrath. Both are equally and infinitely present in God. He does not change. But when we think about the severity of His wrath, we can remind ourselves of His magnanimous unconquerable, and eternal love for us that manifests in His faithfulness, compassions, grace, mercies and favor upon us and that these will never fail.

    Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed,

    because his compassions fail not.

23 They are new every morning:

    great is thy faithfulness.

How lovely is this verse to the ears of forgiven sinners who believe the gospel and put their faith in Jesus Christ!

THE PROPHECY OF SIMEON (Part 9)

Jeremiah 42:10-12 10If [turning back from going into Egypt] ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you. 11Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the Lord: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

That same promise was made in Micah 4:9-10 9Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail. 10Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the Lord shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

The woman in travail are the true believers during this time of great tribulation. God typifies the body of believers as a woman in Revelation 12.

Ezekiel 4:4-6 4Lie thou also upon thy left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it: according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon it thou shalt bear their iniquity. 5For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. 6And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

Numbers 14:32-33 32But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. 34After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Thus, we have Biblical validation for substituting a day for a year or vice versa. Amazingly, when we jump 1,290 years from Jacob's affliction, which occurred in 1877 B.C., we land on 587 B.C. What happened that year? There was a physical famine, in that the Babylonians had laid siege to Jerusalem, allowing nothing to leave or come in. Ultimately Babylon destroyed Jerusalem with fire, and took Daniel and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego captive to Babylon. And even as God cared for Jacob and his family in the land of Egypt, so God was with Daniel and the others taken captive to Babylon. God had made a promise in Jeremiah 42:10.

In the name of Jesus, she is covered in the blood. Genesis 18:14 and Jeremiah 32:27 God asks is anything too hard for him? This reminds us that long as we seek him first, everything is alright. I will be praying for your sister. Be strong

That's exactly what I did say and what I believe . There are people today , people of other faiths , who believe all kinds of weird and wonderful things that we know are not true . But to those people who believe them , those false doctrines and their gods are true , they believe in them 100 per cent . To those people their beliefs are true and real . That's what I think about witches , did God create witches ? I don't believe so , if He didn't create them then who did ? No one but themselves . They believe that they are witches so they are witches in their own eyes and in the eyes of the others who also believe in them . They reinforce each other , they prop each other up in their delusions , it's the same with all other false religions . And all other gods and doctrines , apart from the Gospel , are false , they aren't real , they don't exist , they are man made . Deuteronomy chapter 13 , Genesis chapter 6 verse 5 , Deuteronomy chapter 29 verses 10-29 , Revelation chapter 13 is all about a false religion . Revelation chapter 19 verse 20 and chapter 20 verse 10 . The book of Jeremiah talks a lot about our hearts being decieved and being deceitful , is it a coincidence that this book is about Israel mostly abandoning their God and worshipping and believing in idols and astrology and all kinds of divination and witchcraft ? If you can find the time , please read the scriptures I have quoted , they explain my beliefs much better than I can . God bless your efforts .

    BLESSED THANKSGIVING

Ezra 3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

Jeremiah 30:18-24 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner thereof. And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the LORD. And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it, and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

    THE BIBLE (part 1)

The Bible declares of itself in the King James translation:

2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost [Spirit]."

We also read in Jeremiah 36:1-4

"And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book."

In other words, these men were set apart by God and used of God to speak and write the very words that God wanted them to speak and write, so that (in the original manuscripts written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) every word and every letter of every word came straight from the mouth of God. Those men were "moved" by God the Holy Spirit to speak that which God wanted mankind to know.

The Whole Bible is for us today. God's recounting of His dealings with Judea and Israel, while absolutely historically accurate, are also pictures of God's dealings with the churches and congregations throughout the Church Age. And particularly as we approach the end where God is opening up truth that has been hidden until our day as we read in the closing chapters of Daniel.

The Old Testament prophetic books, like Jeremiah, Isaiah, Hosea, Amos and others are today's newspaper.

To come to truth, requires God in His Mercy to open our Spiritual Ears to Hear as we search the scriptures, comparing spiritual things with spiritual, applying the biblical hermeneutic that God lays down in His Word. And not a hermeneutic that comes from the mind of man, which unfortunately has been the practice in the churches throughout the majority of the Church Age.

    Where we are today?

As we look at what is going on in the world and in the churches and congregations today, what do we see?

We see a world where sin, i.e. disobedience to God's law, is and has been multiplying as never before.

We see churches and congregations exhibiting a love for the world as the worship service has become a place for entertainment. And an abandonment of the Bible, the Word of God, as being the ultimate authority; where the church itself is the authority and not the Bible. We see a gospel being proclaimed where man is in control of their salvation and not God alonea do-it-yourself gospel where Christ has done His part and now it's up to us.

So where are we in God's time table of His plan for the churches and the world?

We are, I believe, living in the period describe in Matthew 24 and Mark 13, the Great Tribulation. A period where God's judgment has fallen upon the churches as we read in 1 Peter 4:17 and 2Thessalonians 2:1-12. And where God is preparing the world for His return on the clouds of glory at the Last Day.

It is also a time where God is reveling truth from His Word, the Bible, that has been hidden in times past as we read in Daniel 9 and Daniel 12.

Daniel 12:9 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

But God, in this time, is saving a "great multitude" as we read in Revelation 7:9. Ezekiel 36:24-38, Jeremiah 29, Jeremiah 30 and many other passages which are pictures of God's salvation during this time.

If there were ever a time where we should be searching the scriptures and praying that God in His mercy might lead us into truth, this is that time.

But we must search the scriptures using the principles that God lays down in His Word. A key principle is that Christ is the author of the entire Bible and that He "spoke in parables, and without a parable spake He not" Matthew 13:34 and Mark 4:34.

May God in His mercy open our spiritual ears as we search the scriptures.
