Discuss Genesis 16

    Prophetic significance in family blessings.

The earliest blessing in scripture is for Ishmael who is said in Genesis 16:12. It isn't exactly something to be desired; except for the fact that in the family lineage there would be many descendants. He was said to be a wild "donkey" of a man; and cause much contention and strife among others. Moving on to Genesis 26:39-40 we see the blessing of Esau; and it wasn't faring much better; he was to live by the sword and eventually throw the "yoke" off his back of basically servitude to Jacob. Finally; we see Jacob's blessing of his sons; to become the 12 patriarchs; which is a mixed bag with particularly gruesome futures for Issachar (once again like a donkey" and of course Dan being as a snake. Reuben the firstborn committed sin and thus lost privileges for that position; and altogether we may say that Judah had the best blessings offered.

These patterns are interesting in that prophetically God's will was ultimately done. We can see this perhaps clearest with God explaining the futures of Jacob and Esau before they were even born. We also see the future of the bondservant (Hagar) and free woman (Sarah) and how it affects the world still to this day with the Arab (mainly Muslim) populus in the surrounding lands of the sons of Sarah and Abraham in Israel. We could say that this most clearly demonstrates what we may call a generational curse as well as blessings that are inherited.

Jeremiah 35:19 is perhaps one of the most interesting prophetic statements; in this case to adults who had been obedient to God from the start. They were promised because of that and passing the test on not drinking wine or strong drink that they would perpetually have someone to serve God; at least seemingly promising a believer to be in the family lineage throughout the generations. As to curses; we do well to meditate on Exodus 20:5 and 6 we see generational affects but those who LOVE God He shows mercy ending the curse.

The "emotions" of God: Covenant of Abraham

When examining this covenant promising the land to Abraham (actually to his descendants eventually who would actually own the land) starting in Genesis 15; we notice that what this had in common with Adam's covenant was the fact that the recipient was put into a deep sleep; in neither case did either party have anything to do with it; it was therefore God swearing by Himself (again showing in the Trinity there was more than one witness involved; perhaps alluded to in Deut. 19:15; Heb. 6:13).

Genesis 16:18-33 we have the famous interchange between Abraham and the Lord over the matter of preserving Lot if there were 50 righteous men; down to the total of 10 where Abraham finally stopped nagging God on the subject for the lack of a better description. Here we have a perfect example of chastisement of Lot during the ensuing judgment where he later escapes as through through the skin of his teeth. Abraham no doubt was considering this situation as it is unlikely anyone else in that wicked place would be on his mind. We also see through the two angels that went on to see if things were as reported to God the idea of authority; and the fact that God cannot look onto sin.

In the situation of Moses pleading with God not to destroy everyone in the wilderness and start a new nation through Moses

in Deuteronomy 9:14 the Lord actually says to leave Him alone to do this. We can take this as rhetoric to initiate a response; but this apparent conflict with sovereignty is our problem not God's: we haven't the right to bend scripture around things that seem out of character in our minds. This should give us insight into how the Godhead operates; again Christ's sacrifice keeps us from the wrath of God and His role in the Godhead was clearly distinct from the Father. It shows clearly that God wants us to remind Him of His covenant; that is good application to a marriage struggle when praying for healing and restoration.

    Hi Jerry.

    Part 3.

YAHWEH-TSIDKENU [yah-way-tzid-kay-noo]: "The Lord Our Righteousness" ( Jeremiah 33:16) - As with YHWH-M'Kaddesh, it is God alone who provides righteousness (from the Hebrew word tsidkenu) to man, ultimately in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, who became sin for us "that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him" ( 2 Corinthians 5:21).

YAHWEH-ROHI [yah-way-roh-hee]: "The Lord Our Shepherd" ( Psalm 23:1) - After David pondered his relationship as a shepherd to his sheep, he realized that was exactly the relationship God had with him, and so he declares, "Yahweh-Rohi is my Shepherd. I shall not want" ( Psalm 23:1).

YAHWEH-SHAMMAH [yah-way-sham-mahw]: "The Lord Is There" ( Ezekiel 48:35) - the name ascribed to Jerusalem and the Temple there, indicating that the once-departed glory of the Lord ( Ezekiel 8-11) had returned ( Ezekiel 44:1-4).

YAHWEH-SABAOTH [yah-way-sah-bah-ohth]: "The Lord of Hosts" ( Isaiah 1:24; Psalm 46:7) - Hosts means "hordes," both of angels and of men. He is Lord of the host of heaven and of the inhabitants of the earth, of Jews and Gentiles, of rich and poor, master and slave. The name is expressive of the majesty, power, and authority of God and shows that He is able to accomplish what He determines to do.

EL ELYON [el-el-yohn]: "Most High" ( Deuteronomy 26:19) - derived from the Hebrew root for "go up" or "ascend," so the implication is of that which is the very highest. El Elyon denotes exaltation and speaks of absolute right to lordship.

EL ROI [el-roh-ee]: "God of Seeing" ( Genesis 16:13) - the name ascribed to God by Hagar, alone and desperate in the wilderness after being driven out by Sarah ( Genesis 16:1-14). When Hagar met the Angel of the Lord, she realized she had seen God Himself in a theophany. She also realized that El Roi saw her in her distress and testified that He is a God who lives and sees all.

    See Part 4.

    Genesis 14:12,14,16,

The Bible is interesting about "brother" generations after Esau & Jacob the brotherhood was still very significant to GOD.= Obadiah 1:10,12,13,14,15,

    Jesus speaking : Matthew 12:47-50, John 1:12

If we can call each other "bro, brother," in slang in our society, just relation in sporting ....? Is it the Son of GOD reference? 2Peter 2, note 2Peter 2:7-9, Romans 8:14, Hebrews 11,

    Hopefully these are helpful

Why in Gen 15 is Lot referred to as Abram's brother? I though Lot was Abram's nephew.

Thank you. And thank you for your website.

It's not really fair to judge someone based on the definition of a name given before or at time of birth, before the person defines who they, themselves are by their life, actions, achievements etc. 1Chronicles 4:9-10, Genesis 10:25, Genesis 35:18, Neither is it Justice to define anyone by a name because someone has the same name. Please read these scriptures: 1Samuel 2:3, Genesis 25:25,26, Genesis 29:32, yet not exactly true, because Genesis 29:33, contadicts the previous name. Following Genesis 29:34,35,

Sometimes people live up to names given, is it because they've been called so? Genesis 27:36,

However sometimes a name is earned: Genesis 25:30, Genesis 30:13, Revelation 11:8, Revelation 12:9, Revelation 19:13, Revelation 17:14

Many times people in the Bible share name, yet are completely different. Especially 1611 KJV, on this site. Examples today many people have name like Jesus pronunciation different are not even close, or Angels names, that are far from. We should be careful to not be deceived even evil can appear as light, likewise many names have been made to deceive. 2Corinthians 11:13,14

There are divine names given by GOD however, those maybe we should take more notice of, :

    Genesis 16:11,12, Genesis 11:29, + Genesis 17:5,15,19, Genesis 32:28, Genesis 35:10, Revelation 19:11,

Thanks for your question, for it did remind me of that. Genesis 5:2,

Hopefully these are helpful & give you intrigue into deeper study of names with scripture & reading GOD's WORD

Hi Texsis. He is partly correct in what he said, but more accurately, it should be written, 'The Bible is, in part, about the history of Israel, the people chosen by God, through whom God's blessings would come; that all the world should know the One & True Living God, Who would one day send His Son to be the Redeemer for Israel & the World.' The Torah had an immediate benefit only to Israel, for it was given to them to learn from & obey. Had they been true to God, they would have been used by God as a mighty witness to the World. But they failed Him, disobeying Him & taking on the sins & corruptions of the Gentiles, thus falling into the same condemnation.

God may not have "dealt with any other nations" as He did with His people Israel, but the nations stood condemned for their sins & idolatry just as Israel suffered under God's Hand when they despised Him. The nations may not have known anything about Israel's God, but the Bible in its fullness must have a very real bearing to the Gentiles as their history is also intertwined within Israel's history.

From Adam & Eve right up to Abraham & Isaac, Israel was not a people or nation. Gentiles too have an heritage to Adam even though not much is given after the Flood when the descendants of Ham & Japheth spread out into the world. But we have the mention of Melchizedek ( Genesis 14:18-20), Hagar ( Genesis 16:1-3), Rahab ( Joshua 6:22-25), Ruth (Ruth chapter 2), the repentance of the City of Nineveh ( Jonah 3:5-10). All these in the OT show that Gentiles were still in God's Mind & to be used of Him.

And Hosea 2:23, "...I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God", to this verse the Apostle Peter refers in 1 Peter 2:10. The Church, composed of Jew & Gentile believers were planned for in the Old Testament & realized in the NT Church & the coming of the Holy Spirit to make her God's special possession.
  • Ishmael returned only for the funeral of Abraham - In Reply on Genesis 25 - 1 year ago
    What does Genesis 25:9 mean?

Genesis 23 describes in detail Abraham's acquisition of the cave of Machpelah immediately following the death of Sarah. Now Isaac and Ishmael reunite to bury Abraham's body in that cave alongside Sarah.

Abraham had sent away Ishmael, along with his mother Hagar. Ishmael was 16 or so and Isaac was around two ( Genesis 21:8-14). Now the step-brothers would be somewhere around 89 and 75, respectively. Ishmael's presence at Abraham's burial may imply there was some contact between Isaac and his birth family over the years.

Despite this meeting to honor their father, God's prophetic remarks about Ishmael would prove true

( Genesis 16:11-12). Ishmael's descendants would become the Enemies of Israel.

Genesis 25:1-18 adds details before describing the deaths of Abraham and then Ishmael. Abraham has taken another wife, (not Hagar) other than Sarah, and has six sons with her. He gives them gifts but sends them all away to the EAST.

Isaac will be his sole true heir. Still, when Abraham dies and is buried at the age of 175, Ishmael joins Isaac for the funeral. Ishmael's 12 sons are listed, along with a description of the region their tribes settled in. Finally, Ishmael dies, as well, at the age of 137.

    GOD is = GOD , Genesis 1,

GOD is = GOD ALMIGHTY, Genesis 17:1, Genesis 28:3, Genesis 35:11, Genesis 48:3,

JEHOVAH, Exodus 6:3, FATHER : Matthew 23:9, Matthew 6:6-10, GOD of thy father, GOD of Abraham, GOD of Isaac, GOD of Jacob, Exodus 3:6,

Many times GOD is referred to by what HE has done: GOD that sees; Genesis 16:13, GOD that provides,

I understand what you are saying, but not everyone on our planet has a belief in it.

The Covenant of the Land was CUT between God and Abraham; Abrahams children born ONLY with Sarah: Gods Perfect Will.

In Gods PERMISSIVE WILL, he blessed Ishmael too. It was not a covenant for any lands God set apart for Israel.

Israel's Lands (boundaries) are recorded in heaven and in the BIBLE. Look at the ancient maps of Abraham's time.

Throughout History, those boundaries have been illegally changed. God does Not Change. He personally cut the covenant Himself.

Most modern day maps of Israel deny what is recorded in the Bible: the Original Deed.

More info: God cut the covenant Himself. The Deed to the Land= Genesis 17:7:8

    Genesis 16:10-16, 17:36-21

    ISRAEL's SIZE TODAY=

Israel stretches 424 km (263 mi) from north to south, its width ranges from 114 km (71 miles) length, to 15 km (9.3 miles) width, at its narrowest point. *Israel and New Jersey are similar in size.

Folks, this is why the end of this fight/war__ will be fought at ARMAGEDDON__in Israel, in the the Valley of Megiddo. As it is written in the Bible, so shall it be done.

There will be NO PEACE until THE PRINCE OF PEACE returns

We're getting close to that time. "wars, rumors of wars, nations rising up against each other. Read Matthew 24, Luke 21 and the Book of Daniel, minor prophets books: if you want to know what's going to happen. If you don't read much; listen to some Nelson Walters videos on YouTube.

There's going to be 7 Seals opened; 7 Trumpets; 7 Bowls of Judgment.

The internet "thought leaders" are going to force one world currency (money system, one world government and one worldwide religion. Look for it now.

Don't be deceived. Choose Jesus NOW. Lack of food , water and fuel are signs. Somebody please preach this every day. Signs are speeding up.

First of all your question applies to Genesis 16:1:16, not Genesis 15 where you posted your question. First I will cite the verses that provide the relevant time spans separating the events in question.

    Genesis 12:4-5

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

    5. And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

    Genesis 12:10

And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.

    Genesis 13:1

And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

    Genesis 16:3

And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

    Genesis 16:16

And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.

Note that none if these events list the month or day of the year that any of these events happened and some of the events listed have no specific time reference at all. In these texts God has reserved these details as hidden things that He alone knows with certainty. He has only chosen to reveal enough information for us to apply logic to verify that these events in His words are possible, if not probable, based on what we commonly know about the span of time a person is a certain age (any day beginning on their birthday that falls within a 1 year span) and the length of time a normal pregnancy lasts (9 months, not 1 year as you have stated).

I don't have space to work out the details for you and there are later events and ages given for Abraham later that refine what you work out. However, calculating fractions is hard using rounded numbers

Hi Cecil, please read Psalm 37,

I knew a guy named Cecil at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. He adopted a 6month old baby girl that had been horrificly abused. I read your post several times. I closed the ap. Had to pray a little & think on your post. I haven't heard from our friend Cecil since I was a teenager. The MBAFB shut down shortly after those days & everyone moved away.

Cecil, GOD is Just. Have you heard of Moses? In Genesis, Abraham was promised several amazing things, a son from his 'wife', in their old age, etc. Gen. 12:2,3,7, but also that those heirs would be servant in strange land & afflicted 400 yrs. Genesis 15:12-13, if you read in depth you can find GOD's justice. Genesis 12:10-17, Genesis 16:1-16, Genesis 21:9-19 = it was in Egypt, Abraham's children of Sarah's son Isaac's offspring were afflicted.

Genesis 18, shows great mercy of GOD that if 10 righteous were in that land (Sodom & Gomorrah) it would've been spared. That's his Nephew Lot's friends & family. ?, Right here is proof the GOD interecedes on People's behalf when they obey HIM.

GOD's ways are not our ways, Isaiah 55:8,9,

We cannot blame GOD for wickedness of man = Genesis 6:5-6,

Yet GOD shows us mercy & unimaginable love, John 3:16-17, salvation through sacrifice, Psalms 18:25-27,

GOD is merciful, true & Just. If you read the books that go alongside Isaiah you'll get a clearer picture: 2Chronicles 36, Jeremiah 29, Jeremiah 51, Exodus 22:22, Isaiah 1:17, Isaiah 1:23, Jeremiah 7:6, Jeremiah 22:3, Ezekiel 22:7, Malachi 3:5, Zechariah 7:10, you can start with those verses because that's most of what GOD asked of Israel & Judah. Then please read the Books & chapters.

    Then Babylon: 2Kings 20:12-18,19, Daniel 1, 2Kings 25:8-9, I stopped there because that's enough about the evil.

Hopefully these are helpful if you are trying to search for truth & understanding. You can also ask for wisdom James 1:5-6,21,

    Job 38:1-41, James 4:12,

    * Hebrews 7:25,

MUSLIMS BELIEVE JESUS IS MESSIAH TOO!

Muslims, Christians and Jews alike serve the one true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Jews are under Isaac, Muslims are under Ishmael and Christians are under Jesus.

As it is written in the Hebrew Tanakh (Torah & writings of the prophets/Old Testament), Abraham had two sons; one of a bondwoman Hagar unto Ishmael and Isaac born of a free woman Sarah the bloodline unto the descendants of Abraham ( Genesis 21:12). God called as this bloodline for the Messiah but God did not forget Abraham's first son Ishmael. God Honors Ishmael and promised Abraham he will make Ishmael a great nation ( Genesis 21:13) which is long before God promised Moses to make the Jews a great nation ( Exodus 32:10).

When the Lord first made a covenant with Abraham ( Genesis 17) God said it will be an everlasting covenant with he that is born of the house and he that is bought with money as servant of the house ( Genesis 17:13) and the covenant is the circumcised flesh. All of Abrahams house was circumcised in Genesis 17. Isaac who the covenant unto the elect of God is through wasnt born yet and it was Ishmael who was circumcized.

There is only one God, the God of Abraham. Ishmael grew up with God And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer ( Genesis 21:20). Ismael had 12 princes ( Genesis 25:16) which are the bloodline of Arab (Muslim) tribes today.

The blood lineage of Prophet Muhammad directly descends from the tribe of Ishmael's second son Kedar ( Genesis 25:12-17). God told Abraham that Ishmael Shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren ( Genesis 16:12).

ALL THE NATIONS OF THE WORLD WILL BE BLESSED IN ABRAHAM ( Genesis 22:18)!

Abraham's circumzied himself and his son Ishmael ( Genesis 17:26) and all the males of his house who were born into house or were bought as servants and circumcised them ( Genesis 17:23) grafting them all into the promise also!

Genesis 17 has never and will be not change God's promise to Abraham with wife Sarah and son, Isaac. God cut the covenant Himself. The Deed to the Land= Genesis 17:7:8

    Genesis 16:10-16, 17:36-21

    Genesis 21:14-18, Genes 25:12-17

    Promise & blessing on Ishmael

    Genesis 17:18-26. Story Gen. 21:16-21

Isaac was the son prophesied of when the 2 angels came back from destroying Sodom and Gomorrah.

God cut the Covenant of Land with Abraham with Sarah his wife. Hagar was called bondwoman. God blessed Ishmael; gave him wealth, princes, kingdoms. But Israel was Isaacs Inheritance.

The Bible says that God was with Ishmael.

We have to understand that Ishmael was born of the permissive Will of God.

Gods perfect Will was to Abraham and the prophesies son, Isaac. Then Jacob.

No matter how history unfolds, The lands and boundaries of Israel are under Gods protection. If you think about looking at a map, Ishmael's portion of the lands are greater. But through the scriptures we know this war will continue to Armageddon.

All countries of the world have a part of the ending of this story. Even Russia, China and the USA. It's written in Daniel.

Everybody is going to have to witness the final destruction of this very ancient war. All this land peoples have fought and shed blood upon; will be destroyed at the end of all days. 2 Peter 3

It's inescapable. It's been written and it will happen. Believers in Messiah Jesus will escape from it. He's the Son of Man, and the Son of Jehovah God.

It's written the earth will be renewed for 1000 years following its total destruction. We have to be born again, book of John chapter 3 verse 5.

A lot of us have unsaved loved ones. To live after the destruction; we must choose Jesus. All have sinned, so we must choose the one who never sinned: Jesus.

With Christ's love I have taken the time to reach out to you. To Jesus, you were worth dying for.

Good, you're at the right site. Start reading the WORD written inside by clicking the Books, I like Luke when I started that was great to show me as new study who Christ Jesus was, is & is to come. Hover over the scripture here, should bring you straight to it.

Luke 1:1-4, you can continue to read by clicking read full chapter the scroll down, click tab on edges to next chapter, etc. Many people enjoy Psalms, I didn't enjoy it as much as a new beginner study but do enjoy it much more now after years of study.

    Psalms 1:1-3,

U may enjoy Exodus, which actually begins in Genesis 37:1-36, continues : Genesis 39:1-23, Genesis 40:1-23, Genesis 41:1-57, Genesis 42:1-38, Genesis 43:1-34, Genesis 44:1-34,

[Note this scripture chapter 44, Genesis, if you noticed we skipped Genesis 38, because it jumps from Joseph to Judah. Now if you read Genesis 38:1-30, you can understand a few things on deeper level = Judah maybe knows painful loss of children at this point in his life & even the difference of love towards children of his "loved wife". Next very importance of Judah's sacrifice for others, resemblance of Jesus sacrifice being beloved Son of GOD. John 3:16, ]also interesting Tamar, bore to Judah the son in Jesus documented lineage Matthew 1:1-3]

Back to story : Genesis 45:1-28, (forgiveness), Genesis 46:1-34, Genesis 47:1-12 (Redemption) Genesis 47:27-31,

    Now note: Genesis 47:13-26 , Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 12:10, Genesis 12:11-16, * Genesis 12:13-20, Genesis 16:3, Genesis 16:6-11, Genesis 15:13-14, Genesis 21:8-21, my own opinion Deuteronomy 32:35-36, Romans 12:19.

These moments in Genesis leading up to how & why Israel came into bondage. Exodus 1:1-8, continue reading Exodus 1:22, please continue to read all of Exodus.

One more encouraging note :) Hebrews 11:22, Psalms 105:1-45,

Furthermore on this site under the 1611 Version tab you can scroll to see more history on the Bible.

Hopefully these inspire a new lifetime desire of deeper study

    Good morning Chris,

I have not traveled farther than my neighboring states, except one trip to Hawaii. I am thankful for those who have gone far and wide to different countries and cultures to minister in minister as the Lord has directed them. I understand the obstacles you mentioned for the peoples of Pakistan. My sister-in-law from Africa is a Christian and she has told me about the poverty and lack of basics we take for granted. Also, she has told me how occultists will go to the homes of Christians and speak curses to the households. Many became sick or had a serious accident or died. She is inspiring as a woman who know the desperate need of prayer in these situations. There is also a significant population of Muslims in sub-Sahara Africa and girls and women are oftentimes kidnapped to be made wives whether these females are Muslims or not. They are often abused. Her sister died from domestic abuse,, being trapped in such a "marriage".

Indeed, all nations are a melting pot of diverse nationalities, languages & beliefs; that even Islamic nations are only so because of a predominance of Muslim population & governance.

From my observation when in ministry in Pakistan, most Christians (like many of us in the West: some strong, some nominal in faith), will almost never share the Gospel with their Muslim neighbours or consider going into public places to reach them. With the nature of Islam, & specifically govts. which are increasingly adhering to Sharia Law or aspects of it, reaching out to Muslims or even making ill-considered references to Allah, their prophet, or the Quran, may get them into very hot water. So when we foreigners went into the marketplace (or the girls, door-to-door) to sell/give out literature & share the Gospel, the indigenous Church began to tremble. We were always warned, as the apostle was in Acts 21:10-14, to be very careful or better, to spend more time with 'us' to teach 'us', but it was for that purpose that we were there: to bring Light & Hope to many living in darkness & hopelessness.

As you correctly stated, there are many believers "seeded" within those communities, yet the very poor amongst them already suffer under the Islamic ruling, by not receiving electricity or water for their homes, kept segregated, & being held back from higher education. If we showed the "Life of Jesus" film to them followed by a message, we had to take our own electricity generator & lighting, for they could only depend on sunlight or moonlight to do their work, or homework for the kids. We had a special leading to such folk who always hungered to learn more of the Bible, but we knew that the Church at large also needed feeding. Pastors were present, but often they too needed teaching. So, I relate this to share with you that the Church (in Pakistan at least) needs to be more than just a visible entity but to be "the hands, feet & mouth of Jesus". We were trying to meet that need, D.V.

I am aware that the descendants of Ishmael became many of the Arab tribes. Unfortunately, most of those tribes today follow the teachings of Muhammed, a false prophet who claimed that Ishmael was the promised heir, not Isaac. However, there is not a 100% Muslim population in any Islamic nation. There are Christians "seeded" among these Muslim communities. Pray for God to protect them from the Muslims who are pressed to persecute and execute Christians. These Christians are the hands, feet, and mouths of Jesus in situations where people are following false teachers who cannot offer hope of salvation to their followers. Most Muslims have not known any other belief system, (same for the Jews). They are in bondage to their religion, not free in Christ Jesus. Our intercession is needed and valuable.

I am concerned about what has and is transpiring in the Middle East. Such turmoil for such a long, long time. And in these times it doesn't just involve those who live there. It involves the whole world. Islam has spread across Africa and Asia as well as the middle east. Many are very devout and committed to honor their god no matter what. Are we more devout and committed to honor the True God more than the Muslims of the world? We need to be. WE have the most excellent promises of all of history. Let us seek for the fulfillment of these promises to be accomplished God's way, not ours. this takes faith and wisdom and courage. I pray to have these in fuller measure as I face the senior years of my life.

Glory to the Merciful God of Abraham!

Abraham was 85 when Sarah asked him to take Hagar and father a child with her. This was 10 years after God promised Abraham an heir generated from his body. When Sarah asked him to do this, he may have thought that it may be the way God would give him and heir since Sarah was long past childbearing age. It seemed logical to him and was a common practice in those times and cultures. Although he had not heard directly from God do go through with this like God had spoken to him when He gave Abraham the promises, Abraham probably made many decisions without this direct communication from God. He perhaps felt sure of his perception of "following the guidance of God's Spirit to him." This happens to believers often. Sometimes we may sincerely feel that the Spirit is leading us to do or say a specific thing, only to find out later that it probably wasn't God's leading at all. Sometimes ourselves get in the way when we are going about His work. Oh, how I wish I could always gauge these leadings rightly and recognize from whom they are really coming from! But we are on a spiritual walk in this life and haven't arrived at our final destination yet. We will stumble along the way, but God will still lead us down the right path. He called us and He loves us.

Praise be to the God Who sees me!

I was taught that Hagar was Egyptian. Perhaps she was "acquired" when Abraham and Sarah went to Egypt due to the recent famine. She was away from her home country and had very little power of her own. I have always felt sorry for Hagar. She was "used" by Sarah and Abraham because they tried to "help" God accomplish His promise. I imagine that she was much younger than Sarah and Abraham. Perhaps she was very lovely and Sarah was concerned that Abraham would turn to Hagar to have more children and relegate Sarah to status as "second wife". Hagar didn't help matters with her disrespect for Sarah. Yet she still was carrying a child and knew that the child would become Sarah's, not hers. She may have been concerned that the child might be a girl and therefore, not be an heir. She may have been concerned about what would happen to her if the child was female. When Sarah sent her away harshly, she probably thought she was going to die in the wilderness. But, thankfully, God stepped in and gave her hope as well as instructions on what she should do. She was relieved and grateful that God took notice of her. She may not even have been a follower of the true God. Because the child was not the promised heir, God could have had her miscarry, or die in the wilderness, or be taken by another chieftan to be in his harem. Then the child would not be part of Abraham's lineage. God chose differently. But Hagar returned to Sarah and submitted to her, as God told her to do.

Sarah lacked faith to believe that she would be the woman to bear the heir for Abraham. She was very desperate to have a child and decided to make it happen one way or another. Let this be a warning to us today when people go to methods of conception other than what God ordained from the time of Adam and Eve. It is very difficult to deal with infertility, especially if it last a long time and then a woman ages past childbearing years. Sarah must have struggled greatly with this.

Hi Dgjot So are you saying you don't have times of disbelief, look at the children of Israel forty years in a wilderness to clean out an entire generation. Then I think of Gods patience of everything he did and overlooked to bring about my deliverance through His Son Jesus Christ. Moses saw a Bush not burning God talking to him didn't believe it, needed to see another display of power staff turned to snake and back, then tells God can't talk too eloquently and God makes Aaron available remember these people were just as human as you and I. I believe if God would work that big in most peoples lives it would scare the hell out of them. I personally met a woman who was ministered to died sent to the spot in the hospital where they take the dead bodies to await autopsy then got up. Someday we'll believe what's really available. Dgjot, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS understanding and HIS wisdom.

The MORE these verses become TRUTH to you, the more understanding you will receive from God's word.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God (SPIRIT) that worketh IN YOU both TO WILL (Spirit causes his will to be your will) and do HIS good pleasure.

Ephesians 1:11 In whom (in Christ) we ALSO have obtained an INHERITANCE (to become Son's of God; exactly like Christ the FIRSTBORN, I am the first (Son) and the last (Son), being predesinated according to the PURPOSE of HIM (Spirit) who WORKETH ALL THINGS after the COUNCEL OF HIS WILL.

We are the POT; HE (Spirit) (Life) (Truth) is causing you (all mankind) TO WILL and TO DO what has been purposed; to create you exactly like the SEED (THE WORD) that was PLANTED IN YOU.

Romans 8:19 For the earnest expectation of the creature (all creation) WAITETH for the manifestation of the Sons of God.

Romans 8:21 For the creature (all creation) ITSELF shall be DELIVERED from the bondage of corruption unto the LIBERTY of the Sons of God.

Revelation 2:26 And he that overcometh (the deception of this world), and keepeth MY WORKS (we are the pot, he is the potter) until the end, to him (the overcomer) will I give POWER over the nations.

Revelation 2:27 And he (the overcomer) shall rule the nations (because you are exactly like Christ, able to judge in righteousness) with a rod of iron; as vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. ( Psalms 2:8-9)

Isaiah 1:26 And I will restore thy JUDGES as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning, afterwards (after the world is judged) thou shalt be called, The city or righteousness, the faithful city.

Isaiah 26:9 ...when thy JUDGEMENTS (resurrection to judgement) are in the earth, the world will LEARN righteousness.

Proverbs 16:5 By MERCY and TRUTH iniquity is PURGED ....

Wasn't Sarai Abram's sister??? Why was incest okay back in those days but not now?

So, Sarai was faithless and didn't bother to wait on the promise of God that she would have a child, and sent her handmaid Hagar the Egyptian into Abram, and because of her faithlessness, she had Ishmael/ his descendants and we are all plagued with the wicked Mozlems, who have been on a murdering Jihad against everyone- Jew and Gentile alike for over 1400 years.

    Good going, Sarai.

This also reminds me of Lot's faithless daughters who, after being led out of Sodom by Angels, didn't have enough faith to believe that God would find them husbands, and laid with their own father to get children.

    Sick puppies.

I know that the will of God must be first and foremost. I also know that God held back a pure remnant of people that Jesus would eventually come from.

The more I try to understand, the more confused I get.

  • What Jacob means to the whole World - In Reply on Genesis 32:30 - 2 years ago
I was taught that Jacobs name had the meaning of deceiver attached to it, over the birthright issue with his brother.

Jacob wrestled with the angel of the Lord.

This is the incident where Jacobs name was changed to ISRAEL. He was the forefather of modern day Israel. The Covenant of blessing and THE LAND (deed), passed upon all descendants of Abrahams descendants born to ABRAHAM and HIS wife, SARAH.

Ishmael who was born to Abraham and Hagar, was blessed separately by God and given power and wealth, even to Present day, Palestinian nations and people's. This is all recorded in Genesis 16:11, 17:20, 21:18.

In these end of days, there is argument over the land of Israel still. No matter how the politicians try to separate Israel from the land; the covenant God initiated, will stand.

Israel is only about 7 1/2 miles wide, yet the entire world covets the Land God gave to Israel by a Covenant with Abraham. As I was taught, Ishmael was born through the permissive Will of God. He allowed it, but His Covenant was enacted with Abraham and his wife, Sarah. The children born to Israel are their mothers religion.

Hagar moved away and provided Ishmael an Egyptian wife. Princes, kingdoms and wealth was given to Ishmael and his descendants. Modern day Palestinians. The whole world will suffer and witness this 6000 yr old struggle for the land of Israel.

Modern day: every super power on earth will attempt to force Israel to give up their land "for peace", which is a lie of the devil.

If we had desired peace in the United States, why then did we vote "party", instead of protecting the fragile peace in Jerusalem? Vote With Gods known will? Satan will blind their minds.

Those who bless Israel will be blessed by God.

Get ready because we're all going to have to suffer for our acts. Try hard to understand covenants and the prophesies at work here? Don't be an ostrich (book of Job).

    Good day brother John,

I enjoyed reading your reply and if I can't fit everything in this post I will make another to go along with it.

I'll start with this "Is it not GOD Who comes down, to open the Seals, as HE alone can do that, to call out HIS children for 1Thes.4:15-16?

How does GOD communicate with HIS children?

Deut.18:18; Amos 3:7 explain that, prophets, through whom HE, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, communicates.

As we're told that Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Lamb of God, is the only one worthy to take, from God, and open, or even look upon, the book with the seven seals.

I believe I understand your perception of how God communicates with His children. Through the Spirit of His Son, or the Holy Ghost, with whom we have been blessed to receive when we gave our lives to the Lord. Him knowing our hearts and who is ready to receive the Spirit of Christ. Receiving the Spirit of Truth that shall help guide, and teach, us in all things to live for the will of our Father. If you meant anything else please correct me.

Before I get to the angel in Revelation 10 I would like to post something I perceive. As I have spent some time reading through the Scriptures, and others with views to this, I would like to bring up the Angel of the LORD in the OT. He is first spoken of in Genesis 16:7-13. As He is the one who stopped Abraham from slaying Isaac. Also as He is stated to be the one in the burning bush who spoke to Moses. As most of these accounts with Him also indicate Him as the LORD our God.

An account of an Angel that God warns them to obey because "my name is in Him". Exodus 23:21. My perception is that this may be(I say may as only God knows the Truth of this and is only my perception) the pre incarnate Jesus Christ.

Sorry about that, I just thought I'd put that in here. So back to the angel in Revelation 10.

    Will continue in next post:
