Ms. Jackson, pray for God to increase your faith. Faith is what sets our heart at one with God so we can believe his promises and live for him. Faith give access into grace ( Romans 5:2). We receive the Holy Spirit by the hearing of faith ( Galatians 3:2). Faith is the victory that overcomes the world ( 1 John 5:4). When reading the Bible ask yourself if you really belief what it says. Hebrews 11:6 "But with out faith it is impossible to please God: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him". Faith precedes grace, the Holy Spirit, imputes righteousness and gives victory. Faith the size of a mustard seed will remove mountains ( Matthew 17:20). Hebrews 11 has good examples of faith and the effects of it.
Paul writes Romans 13 to say basically two things: First, just because the Roman Empire, and most governments are corrupt, doesn't mean that all government in principle is bad. And secondly, he infers that while people should hold the Roman Empire in contempt, and resist it, they should not do so by breaking the law.
Yes! But at the same time the law of God is supreme in that all laws comes from the Bible anyway. It's just that some of our laws today has been modified or are being redefine.
Legalism too is something that borders into this area that Paul addresses as a whole in the books of Galatians. Legalism was hard to shake from the Jews during that time. The "jew-christians (early messianics/Judaizers)," Pharisees, Sadducees and so on all lived under the bondage of the laws. They put others under the bondage of faith by works the same which never saved anyone after Christ shed His Blood for our sins to have Grace by means of Salvation.
To encourage you all neighbors, I lived in this bondage growing up. I was raised roman catholic and was very involved until I was 19-years old. I was even told by a cardinal back then that our lives in service to God are only of good deeds (which he referred moreso of works). They would twist the book of James to no end. James mentions works but the works that James speaks of is the fruit of the Spirit of the born again; not works by means of Salvation. Anyway, I left the catholic church after a divide toward atheism. Long story short, I nearly died when I was 22-years old and the only person willing to help me in the hospital that time was a born again Christian. They shared with me the verses in the Bible (which I'd never read back then) how to be saved. It took a lot of resistance but God broke through in October 3rd, 2010. My encouragement to you all is that we ought to praise Christ Jesus for dying for our sins, giving up His free Grace, washing us from our sins, His mercy, His Holy Spirit, His Holy Word (KJV in English in my case) and the great promises He gives to the elect including Eternal Life after this. The Old Testament is what Jesus was brought up on and believed in , he quotes is so many times and he is there , figuratively , in every single book of the Old Testament . A decent understanding of the Old sheds enormous light on the New . Give it a go , I promise you will love it .

Brother Daniel has correctly shared with you what was going on amongst the Churches in Galatia (in North & South Galatia): that Judaizers had infiltrated the Churches ( Galatians 1:6-9). And these Judaizers, as he has explained, were corrupting the true Gospel of Jesus by demanding observance of the old Laws & its practises.
Then from Galatians 1:11 to 2:21, Paul writes on aspects of his authority to share what he did over & above what these false teachers were claiming: Paul's authority given by Revelation, by the Jerusalem Church's approval, & by his rebuking of Peter.
And from chapter 3, I think is where your confusion arises. From here on, Paul teaches what the Galatians should be embracing, i.e. Justification by Faith alone & nothing else. In the Church, there would have been both converted Jews & Gentiles worshipping together. Since both were being taught by these Judaizers about adherence to the Law as well as Faith, to the Jewish convert these words in chapters 3 & 4, would have much meaning & they would be in need of more correcting.
So how does this apply to you & me? Paul is not stating that the Gentiles (including you & me) were ever under the Law, as the new Jewish believers once were, but was emphasizing that since those who were under the Law (i.e. these new Jewish believers) and those Gentiles who were being taught to also embrace the Law, are affected by the false teachers, all should be warned that they don't syncretize the two (i.e. uniting or mixing together Law & free Grace through Faith) - they cannot be mixed together - they're like oil & water. So, Curious-L, you & I were never under the Law, but we're to be careful not to adhere to the Law as well to gain salvation, to which Faith speaks against. The Law was given only to show the Jew their sin & incapability to keep it perfectly & be righteous before God - it was given to ultimately "bring them to Christ, that we (all - Jew & Gentile) might be justified by Faith."
Hello, well, I'm always told the Old Testament is old and it is done away with cause we in the new and we under a new way. I guess that is not right, but they say this in church I started going too is why. Under Law (Mosaic, Levitical, etc) we lived by works. Salvation could only be obtained by works. This was only a temporary solution until Christ Jesus came to die for our sins so that we're freed from law by Salvation; nei, we are saved by Grace through Faith in Christ's finished work at Calvary. Therefore, Spiritual law is nothing more but written on the hearts of those born again.
What was the situational context of Galatians 3 (most of Paul's letter to Galatia)?
Galatia heard the Gospel of Grace (not works of the Law) by either Paul or another early witness that was in Paul's fellowship. Judaizers (which aren't much different from modern Messianics) came to Galatia and told them that the Grace of God wasn't enough. They tried to pervert the Galatian church's understanding of Grace and asked they go back under the law (works of physical circumcision, feast days, sabbatical law, etc). Everything Judaizers or Messianics teach is in contrary to the victory Christ Jesus gave us by shedding His Blood so that we may have Grace freely without works.
None of the context has to do with secular laws by civilization. Obviously, we live in this world and cannot rebel against civil laws of the land. This chapter has nothing to do with that. Reach Galatians back from chapter 1 for better understanding.

What "Law" is this passage talking about and what everybody is talking about? And who gave me this "Law" that I was under or since my birth. Only law I know about is laws in America? Do I still have to keep the laws in America cause Christ died?

"In Christ" appears to be used in this passage by Paul in a similar way to the way he uses that phrase and the phrase "in Him" in Ephesians.

I will offer what I believe to be a biblical view that coincides with many a scripture.

We know that the first man in creation, being Adam, was formed in God's image, His perfection. Man formed in perfection. The closer we get to the first generations of God's creation the more God-like I believe they must have been.

Once sin began to take course the following generations began to suffer. As time passed and we come to Moses, he only lived to be 120.
I believe that in the Garden of Eden God's creation of man had fallen due to the fall of man. In other words, had sin not infiltrated the generations of man we would still be having a conversation, today, with men of long ago. Imagine having children at 100, or serving our Lord for 900 years. I can't even fathom. Those first men must also have shared Much more in common with God than we do. Today we are "built cheap" because of sin.
Another thought if I may. During the fall in Eden God also cursed the ground. Imagine what our world would be today.

Dear Alex N I think i start and understand what you mean but experienced the first time you said this like Donna here now. But how we experience the Holy Spirit has no real significance for the Hearer of His Voice. I also know that the Spirit has and had great Power.

What I think is being missed in Galatians 3:29. Is that it actually says the opposite of the way you take it.
It says "you are Abraham's seed, and heirs, ""ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE"". Not law!! and not nationality.
The Promise spoken of here, "the covenant of God in Christ" was given to Abraham 430 years before the Law. Galatians 3:17. and before Israel was a nation.
So Galatians. 3:29. Is not saying you are Israelites it's saying you are children of Promise as we see in Galatians 4:28. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
I think the confusion is when often you call members of the church Israelites citing Galatians 3:29. and
Romans 2:29.
But you must consider
Galatians 3:28. "THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS."
So when you revisit Romans 9 and take on Romans 9:6-8. "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: "but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."
This is not making a distinction between Ishmael and Issac.
It's a distinction between
1) National Israel "The broken off branch who were blinded and who you are attempting to be grafted into " and 2) Messianic Israel who's joint members of the Church and children of the promise.

Thank you for your response. You made a long 3 part response, with great scripture! But your additional scripture does not change or weaken the scripture that I presented.
The main topic was the 10 Commandments, and secondary topic was the analogy of the Gentiles (wild olive tree) being grafted into the Israelites (cultivated olive tree).
I try to remain open minded and adjust as the Spirit may move me. I believe the scripture speaks for itself on these two topics. The chapter Romans 11 is speaks specifically about the Gentiles being grafted into this cultivated olive tree, and becoming Israelites Galatians 3:29. We become Abrahams seed! Paul states this fact again in Romans 2:29 we become Jews inwardly.
You put forth your argument against the Gentiles becoming Israelites and include scripture found in other areas directed at the 3 different/separate groups. The Church, the Gentiles, and Israelites. I agree they have been and CAN continue to be separate. But, the analogy that Paul uses regarding the grafting of the two olives threes - shows that Christ changed this; by keeping the original tree intact, not making a new tree. (You suggested different - we disagree) Jesus Christ is the tree root of the original tree, and the original branches are the Israelites. Paul is stating in scripture that Jesus removes the defective branches (unbelieving Jews), keeping the branches of the believing Jews intact, and then grafting in the believing Gentiles into the tree. In essence, bringing the believing Jews, and believing Gentiles, into ONE BODY - the CHURCH. I hope now, this makes sense to you.
Next, God originally gave the 10 Commandments to the Israelites. Now that we believers have accepted Jesus Christ, and have been adopted into the Church (Olive Tree) we are partakers of God's salvation, along with His Commands - we are treated the same now as the Israelites. No better - no worse!
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under THE CURSE: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

Comment: we are all born pre-packaged with sin. We need a Savior, the Son of man, Jesus. We have to accept Jesus's work completed on the Cross.
Our sins are forgiven from birth to death. Because of human frailty, we still have failures. Since we are in the family of God now, we confess and are restored into fellowship immediately. 1 John 1:9. We have an Advocate (attorney): Jesus. Our Names are written in the Lambs Book of Life.
When we are accused by Satan, Jesus looks in the Book of Life for our name; and the case is dismissed. The penalty was already paid. With Jesus's Blood.
We should walk in forgiveness of others. Forgive ourselves and give thanks for the Love and Forgiveness of Christ.

Take notice of what we are being grafted into! Is it Israel? No, Israel is a branch broken off because of unbelief.
You see the concept in John and Mathews. I am the vine true/genuine vine in John 15:1-12. and Mathews 7:13-23. opposed to Israel in Jeremiah 2:21.

Again, salvation wasn't to come by the law where the Gentiles were foreigners, the law was to show the world they needed a savior that's what God promised Abraham.

This portion of scripture seems to label you as a hypocrite and blasphemer when you put your trust in being able to keep the law.

Legalism too is something that borders into this area that Paul addresses as a whole in the books of Galatians. Legalism was hard to shake from the Jews during that time. The "jew-christians (early messianics/Judaizers)," Pharisees, Sadducees and so on all lived under the bondage of the laws. They put others under the bondage of faith by works the same which never saved anyone after Christ shed His Blood for our sins to have Grace by means of Salvation.
To encourage you all neighbors, I lived in this bondage growing up. I was raised roman catholic and was very involved until I was 19-years old. I was even told by a cardinal back then that our lives in service to God are only of good deeds (which he referred moreso of works). They would twist the book of James to no end. James mentions works but the works that James speaks of is the fruit of the Spirit of the born again; not works by means of Salvation. Anyway, I left the catholic church after a divide toward atheism. Long story short, I nearly died when I was 22-years old and the only person willing to help me in the hospital that time was a born again Christian. They shared with me the verses in the Bible (which I'd never read back then) how to be saved. It took a lot of resistance but God broke through in October 3rd, 2010. My encouragement to you all is that we ought to praise Christ Jesus for dying for our sins, giving up His free Grace, washing us from our sins, His mercy, His Holy Spirit, His Holy Word (KJV in English in my case) and the great promises He gives to the elect including Eternal Life after this. Then from Galatians 1:11 to 2:21, Paul writes on aspects of his authority to share what he did over & above what these false teachers were claiming: Paul's authority given by Revelation, by the Jerusalem Church's approval, & by his rebuking of Peter.
And from chapter 3, I think is where your confusion arises. From here on, Paul teaches what the Galatians should be embracing, i.e. Justification by Faith alone & nothing else. In the Church, there would have been both converted Jews & Gentiles worshipping together. Since both were being taught by these Judaizers about adherence to the Law as well as Faith, to the Jewish convert these words in chapters 3 & 4, would have much meaning & they would be in need of more correcting.
So how does this apply to you & me? Paul is not stating that the Gentiles (including you & me) were ever under the Law, as the new Jewish believers once were, but was emphasizing that since those who were under the Law (i.e. these new Jewish believers) and those Gentiles who were being taught to also embrace the Law, are affected by the false teachers, all should be warned that they don't syncretize the two (i.e. uniting or mixing together Law & free Grace through Faith) - they cannot be mixed together - they're like oil & water. So, Curious-L, you & I were never under the Law, but we're to be careful not to adhere to the Law as well to gain salvation, to which Faith speaks against. The Law was given only to show the Jew their sin & incapability to keep it perfectly & be righteous before God - it was given to ultimately "bring them to Christ, that we (all - Jew & Gentile) might be justified by Faith."
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
Comment: if you watch election results, it's obvious that half the population is voting for the half that did not vote. Rain or shine, we need to give voting more of our priority.

What was the situational context of Galatians 3 (most of Paul's letter to Galatia)?
Galatia heard the Gospel of Grace (not works of the Law) by either Paul or another early witness that was in Paul's fellowship. Judaizers (which aren't much different from modern Messianics) came to Galatia and told them that the Grace of God wasn't enough. They tried to pervert the Galatian church's understanding of Grace and asked they go back under the law (works of physical circumcision, feast days, sabbatical law, etc). Everything Judaizers or Messianics teach is in contrary to the victory Christ Jesus gave us by shedding His Blood so that we may have Grace freely without works.
None of the context has to do with secular laws by civilization. Obviously, we live in this world and cannot rebel against civil laws of the land. This chapter has nothing to do with that. Reach Galatians back from chapter 1 for better understanding.

This word cannot mean life common to all men living and moving and having their being in Christ, nor can it mean simply resurrection to either eternal life or the second death. Under this meaning I am persuaded that the word "all" in 1 Corinthians cannot be an unlimited universal "all" and in both instances where it is used in this passage it is limited by the words "in Adam" and "in Christ". "In Christ" appears to be used in this passage by Paul in a similar way to the way he uses that phrase and the phrase "in Him" in Ephesians.

This also suggests that "all men" in Romans 5:18 is limited by the "one man" being referenced, either Adam or Christ.
The connection that Adam and Christ share in common with the "all" in 1 Corinthians 15:22 and Romans 5:8 has several different interpretations that have been offered. I also believe Adam and Christ are uniquely qualified and appointed by God to be the first fruits of their respective seed. No other human beings can be presented before God in the way they can.

Over the years I have read(heard) many illogical and unbiblical answers. So what we all would like to know is how did Noah really live to be 950 years old!? Was the length of a year different? Did the Earth spin faster?(small joke)
I will offer what I believe to be a biblical view that coincides with many a scripture.
Romans 8:13-17
We know that the first man in creation, being Adam, was formed in God's image, His perfection. Man formed in perfection. The closer we get to the first generations of God's creation the more God-like I believe they must have been.
Galatians 3:13 Jeremiah 17:5-6
Once sin began to take course the following generations began to suffer. As time passed and we come to Moses, he only lived to be 120.
I believe that in the Garden of Eden God's creation of man had fallen due to the fall of man. In other words, had sin not infiltrated the generations of man we would still be having a conversation, today, with men of long ago. Imagine having children at 100, or serving our Lord for 900 years. I can't even fathom. Those first men must also have shared Much more in common with God than we do. Today we are "built cheap" because of sin.
Another thought if I may. During the fall in Eden God also cursed the ground. Imagine what our world would be today.

What I think is being missed in Galatians 3:29. Is that it actually says the opposite of the way you take it.
It says "you are Abraham's seed, and heirs, ""ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE"". Not law!! and not nationality.
The Promise spoken of here, "the covenant of God in Christ" was given to Abraham 430 years before the Law. Galatians 3:17. and before Israel was a nation.
So Galatians. 3:29. Is not saying you are Israelites it's saying you are children of Promise as we see in Galatians 4:28. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
I think the confusion is when often you call members of the church Israelites citing Galatians 3:29. and
Romans 2:29.
But you must consider
Galatians 3:28. "THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS."
So when you revisit Romans 9 and take on Romans 9:6-8. "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: "but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."
This is not making a distinction between Ishmael and Issac.
It's a distinction between
1) National Israel "The broken off branch who were blinded and who you are attempting to be grafted into " and 2) Messianic Israel who's joint members of the Church and children of the promise.
Have you noticed they all weren't broken off?
Romans 11:17. AND "IF SOME" OF THE BRANCHES BE BROKEN OFF, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

Thank you for your response. You made a long 3 part response, with great scripture! But your additional scripture does not change or weaken the scripture that I presented.
The main topic was the 10 Commandments, and secondary topic was the analogy of the Gentiles (wild olive tree) being grafted into the Israelites (cultivated olive tree).
I try to remain open minded and adjust as the Spirit may move me. I believe the scripture speaks for itself on these two topics. The chapter Romans 11 is speaks specifically about the Gentiles being grafted into this cultivated olive tree, and becoming Israelites Galatians 3:29. We become Abrahams seed! Paul states this fact again in Romans 2:29 we become Jews inwardly.
You put forth your argument against the Gentiles becoming Israelites and include scripture found in other areas directed at the 3 different/separate groups. The Church, the Gentiles, and Israelites. I agree they have been and CAN continue to be separate. But, the analogy that Paul uses regarding the grafting of the two olives threes - shows that Christ changed this; by keeping the original tree intact, not making a new tree. (You suggested different - we disagree) Jesus Christ is the tree root of the original tree, and the original branches are the Israelites. Paul is stating in scripture that Jesus removes the defective branches (unbelieving Jews), keeping the branches of the believing Jews intact, and then grafting in the believing Gentiles into the tree. In essence, bringing the believing Jews, and believing Gentiles, into ONE BODY - the CHURCH. I hope now, this makes sense to you.
Next, God originally gave the 10 Commandments to the Israelites. Now that we believers have accepted Jesus Christ, and have been adopted into the Church (Olive Tree) we are partakers of God's salvation, along with His Commands - we are treated the same now as the Israelites. No better - no worse!

Comment: we are all born pre-packaged with sin. We need a Savior, the Son of man, Jesus. We have to accept Jesus's work completed on the Cross.
Our sins are forgiven from birth to death. Because of human frailty, we still have failures. Since we are in the family of God now, we confess and are restored into fellowship immediately. 1 John 1:9. We have an Advocate (attorney): Jesus. Our Names are written in the Lambs Book of Life.
When we are accused by Satan, Jesus looks in the Book of Life for our name; and the case is dismissed. The penalty was already paid. With Jesus's Blood.
We should walk in forgiveness of others. Forgive ourselves and give thanks for the Love and Forgiveness of Christ.

Romans 11:10-32.
There is a lot here in this portion of scripture, for one you will see there is two groups here, Us/The Church and Israel.
Take notice of what we are being grafted into! Is it Israel? No, Israel is a branch broken off because of unbelief.
You see the concept in John and Mathews. I am the vine true/genuine vine in John 15:1-12. and Mathews 7:13-23. opposed to Israel in Jeremiah 2:21.
Notice Romans 11:25
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
Again, salvation wasn't to come by the law where the Gentiles were foreigners, the law was to show the world they needed a savior that's what God promised Abraham.

SO, WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE LAW?

Even before the law was given, we had light in the world that bared witness of right and wrong! (The law put a death sentence on us. Romans 7:8-10.)

This portion of scripture seems to label you as a hypocrite and blasphemer when you put your trust in being able to keep the law.

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Christ is the goal! the Law was given to bring Man to Christ. He said, "I didn't come to patch up an old garment, I came to give you a new garment." (The robe of his righteousness)
