Hello Adrue1. A Heave Offering was a part of the other types of offerings that God had appointed for the children of Israel. The heave offering was not really a separate offering but the portion of another offering, given as a present, that was reserved for the use of the priests.

Exodus 29:27,28: And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the shoulder of the heave offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of the consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons: And it shall be Aaron's and his sons' by a statute for ever from the children of Israel: for it is an heave offering: and it shall be an heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the LORD."

It seems that it was similar to the Wave Offering, where instead of the offering being waved (moved from side-to-side) before the LORD, the Heave Offering was lifted in an up and down motion before God.

The heave offering was often given in conjunction with tithes ( Leviticus 7:14,34) as a provision for the Levites, the priestly tribe who did not have land of their own and therefore could not grow their own food. They depended on the LORD's provision through tithes and heave offerings ( Numbers 18:24,29).

    Hello Guy,

I can speak a little on Jesus' baptism. I do agree with the things GiGi has shared in that the triune nature of God was revealed during His baptism.

But as far as Jesus being baptized to be cleansed of sin, you are correct in saying He has no sin. So we can rule out that as being the purpose for His baptism.

If we look at Matthew Chapter 3, we see Jesus coming to John to be baptized by him. But John didn't want to do it.

In Matthew 3:15, Jesus answers and says to John, allow it to be for now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered, (or allowed) Him.

Notice it says becomes "us" to fulfill all righteousness.

It is the fulfillment of Exodus 29:4. to fulfill all righteousness! And there are some things that are very interesting about Jesus' coming.

At 30 years of age, that is the age of the priesthood. According to Numbers 4:30, it was 30 years of age.

The priest had to go through a MIKVEH, (a baptism). They had to be baptized from head to toe. The washing, or the MIKVEH of the priesthood is in Exodus Chapter 29 Verse 4.

But, Moses was supposed to do the baptizing! That is interesting because here is John the baptizer standing there and Jesus says this is for "us" to fulfill all righteousness.

And so John is stepping in the place of Moses and baptizing Jesus for the priesthood. The anointing of the priesthood is in Exodus 29:7. They were anointed with oil.

Now all of this information is to bring us back to our text. Jesus was 30 years of age, and in order for Him to officially, according to the law, enter into His priesthood according to the Jews, He would have to be baptized.

So that is why He was baptized, not to be cleansed from sin, as you rightfully said, but to fulfill a requirement for Him to enter into His ministry.

    Psalm 45.

This Psalm discusses in the first five verses a description of a mighty warrior of valor; with characteristics of "truth; meekness and righteousness" in verse 3. The description in verse 2; however about being fairer than the children of men would certainly seem to portray the future Messiah; or at least an angelic being.

Verse 6 clearly describes God. Verse 7 discusses God Himself anointing someone; which likely represents only the Messiah Himself. There were special formulas for priests to administer to kings in the O.T. as specified in Leviticus 8:30; as well as Exodus 29 and 30.

Verse 8 discusses Myrrh which was one of the spices brought to Christ ( Matthew 2:11).

The remainder of the Psalm except for the last verse could describe the nuptuals and marriage bonds such as found in the Song of Solomon. We are also reminded of the story of Ruth who left her own people and was blessed for joining Naomi and the Jews; and eventually was part of he royal lineage from the sentiments in verse 10.

Verse 16 could describe spiritual offspring; and relate to us as in Revelation 5:10 being "kings and priests on the earth". The last verse also seems to indicate Christ being "remembered in all generations." The whole Psalm is likely a depiction of David as seen by those writing it for the sons of Korah for worship.

    Psalm 45

This Psalm contains virtues of a human king; but also some of God's attributes alone. Most verses can have either meaning. In the first five verses we see characteristics of a valiant warrior with "truth, meekness and righteousness" adding to the exalted status. Verse 2 however stating that the appearance was "fairer than the children of men" would seem to indicate a description of God; or at least that of an angelic being.

Verse 6 directly describes God; and verse 7 seems to indicate a Messianic anointing. Priests in Exodus 29:7 and Exodus 8:30 were anointed and the further application was to be for the Messiah. Myrrh in verse 8 is mentioned in Matthew 2:11.

The rest of the Psalm (verses 9 to the end) talk about attributes much as is in the Song of Solomon for the king and could also be related to a love story. Such abandon of our lives and forgetting our own people and past could also relate to someone like Ruth who decided to follow Naomi and therefore became part of the royal lineage. The children in verse 16 could also in some sense be the spiritual descendants of Christ. The Psalm ends with "thy name being remembered in all generations" which is certainly a description of Christ but also could relate to King David co ruling with Christ. We also shall be "kings and priests" on the earth some day ruling and reigning with Christ ( Rev. 5:10).

Exodus 30:7-10, these are specified rules Moses had been given for the Priests to follow. Best to keep the whole of these scriptures together. Deuteronomy 4:2, the offering & relevant starts in previous chapters, Exodus 25, Exodus 26, Exodus 27, Exodus 28, Exodus 29, continuing to Exodus 30, Exodus 31, Exodus 40, also in Deuteronomy, Leviticus,

    Hey Levi,

From Daniel 9:27 "he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease". The daily sacrifices oblations/offerings by the people every day. It starts with the Tamid Exodus 29:38-42, the first, it is inspected by the priest to make sure no spots or blemishes and sacrificed at the 3rd hour at 9 AM the same time Jesus was nailed to the cross. All the sacrifices and offerings of the people were placed on top of the first lamb.

At the 9th hour 3 PM, the second lamb, the last, it was sacrificed and placed on top of all the offerings done that day that end the sacrifices and offerings for the day, the same time Jesus died. The daily sacrifice and oblation/offering have stopped several times in history, by Babylon in 586 BC, Antiochus IV in 167 BC, and the last time by Titus and Rome in 70 AD, and some say it will happen again in the future.

The Hebrew word shabath translated to cease can have meanings of; cause to, let, make to cease, celebrate, cause to fail, put away, take away, and rest. The context of the chapter is important for understanding. This verse is where the 7 years are put at the end times based on who he is in this verse. That is another discussion.

    God bless,

    Exodus 29

    continued.

He gave His all for us and this pleased the Father.

Aaron and his sons put their hands on the second ram and it was slaughtered. Some of the blood was used to place on the tip of the right ear, thumb, and toe of Aaron and his sons. The remainder of the blood was sprinkled around the altar and upon the garments of Aaron and his sons. Again the fat of the ram, its tail, kidneys, caul, and right thigh are used to be burned, along with one loaf of bread, one cake, and one wafer. First, these things are raised up above by Aaron and his sons, presented to YHWH (Jesus was raised up on the cross) as a wave offering and then burned on the altar.

Then the priests are to take the breast and the other thigh portion of the ram and offer it up as a wave offering (peace offering) but not burn it. This portion was to be eaten by the priests after being boiled along with the remaining bread, eaten by the door of the tabernacle of meeting (not inside the tabernacle). In this way the priest consume that which the atonement was made and in doing so they will be consecrated (ordained) and sanctified (set apart) for service for YHWH.

Only priests are to consume this portion of the atoning sacrifice. No outsider is to do this, because both the priests and the offering are holy. Jesus is both the sin offering for atonement and the High Priest. He alone is worthy of being offered and He alone is owed all of the joy, honor, and satisfaction of fulfilling God's requirement for the remission of sin. It is between YHWH and the priests, just like the decision and carrying out of the atonement was only within the Godhead with not participation from sinful man who was separated from God, His enemy, and dead in sin (unable to do anything to counsel or assist in this work).

This consecration was to take seven days with a bull offered every day as a sin offering of atonement for the altar and sanctify it. Whatever touches the altar must be holy. Jesus is the only Holy One..

    Hey Carol,

The Passover lamb, the Lamb of God, there stood a lamb as it had been slain, one perfect sacrifice worthy to open the book. The one who redeemed us to God, one sacrifice for sins forever, Hebrews 10:5-12. As the people in this site, redeemed out of every kindred, every tongue, every people, and every nation.

There is another lamb sacrifice we do not think of that was going on the same time our savior was hanging and suffering on that cross. It is the Tamid a continual offering that the fire never went out, day or night our thoughts to be on God. Exodus 29:38-42, Leviticus 6:1-6 the first and the last.

The morning and evening sacrifice. Jesus and his apostles after the last supper went into the garden of Gethsemane and there Jesus was taken to Annas and then Caiaphas and then early that morning to Pilate to be judged where no fault was found in Him. At the same time this was going on the priest tied the Tamid lamb to the altar and inspected it to make sure there were no blemishes.

Jesus was placed on the cross the third hour, 9 AM same time the first Tamid lamb was sacrificed and placed on the alter, the first hour of prayer. All the sacrifices of the people will be placed on top of the first Tamid lamb.

The 6th hour around noon the second Tamid lamb was brought out and inspected for any blemishes and darkness fell on all the land until the 9th hour around 3 PM. The second hour of prayer the time the second Tamid lamb was sacrificed and placed on top of all the sacrifices, the same time Jesus said it is finished and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost.

Jesus was sacrificed once for all sin, "we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all". Jesus is the first and the last, the sacrifice that is continual forever. Jesus fulfilled all the sacrifices, not just down to the day, but to the very hour itself. His blood as the lamb's blood in Egypt did, will spare us from the second death.

    God bless,

    James 1:5, 1John 2:27,

    Mark 5:25-34,

Just recently GOD revealed somethings even deeper about that moment. I'm glad you're discussing so I can share it. In Leviticus 12, Leviticus 15:19-33, Leviticus 21:3, I think it's amazing Jesus called her "daughter" making her faith the (close kinship) also: Luke 8:43-48, Matthew 9:20-22, Galatians 3:26,

Also understanding that her touching him could have had the uncleanness, if He were not the High Priest that makes atonement. Hebrews 2:17, Hebrews 4:14,15,

Hebrews 5:5-10, Hebrews 6:20, Hebrews 7:11, even though; Luke 1, shows His family was of that bloodline, Luke 1:5-37,

Also notable Jesus garment was without seams as the Priestly garment: John 19:23,24, Exodus 28:32, Exodus 29:23, 1Samuel 2:18,19,

    Alex,

thanks for your response. Even though water baptism represents two things, cleansing and identification, I would agree that the water does not wash away sin. I would agree that only the blood of Christ removes sin. Cleansing is different than completely removing sin. That's why the Jews even to this day, they get water baptized. They hold a MIKVEH (Baptism) once a year, every year, right after what they call TESHUVAH. To them, it represents cleansing so that if the Messiah would comes during that year, they would be covered!

Jesus was baptized, not because He had to, but He said it was to fulfill all righteousness. It is the fulfillment of Exodus 29:4. To fulfill all righteousness! It tells us that at 30 years of age, that is the age of the priesthood. According to Numbers 4:30, it was 30 years of age. The priest had to go through a MIKVEH, a baptism. They had to be baptized from head to toe. The washing, or the MIKVEH of the priesthood is in Exodus Chapter 29 Verse 4.

So, from that point on, no one could say that He did not meet the requirements of the law to enter into His priesthood ministry!

Part 2 More baptism questions for today's water adherents:

    9. "water" baptism of repentance:

    c) Is this baptism "for today"? IF this baptism is For us Today, we have Several More Questions:

c1) Why does No one Today, "teach, as John ( Under The LAW! ), Claimed": it is For "making CHRIST Manifest To Israel" John 1:31?

c2) Why does {Almost} No one Today, "Confess their sins," when they come to water baptism Matthew 3:6 Mark 1:5?

c3) Why do not ALL Divided "denominations who Water baptize" today, agree As ONE, And "teach" water as John, CHRIST, And The Twelve ( Under The LAW! ), "taught" That "water baptism Is For The Remission Of sins!" Mark 1:4 Luke 3:3 Acts 2:38 { instead of each one's own "symbolic Re-Interpreted Traditions!" }?

    10. Baptism Of Anointing?: Pentecostal Spirit baptism; This is the baptism "WITH" The Holy Spirit, BY JESUS CHRIST, From Heaven, Poured Out Upon the believing remnant of Israel with signs and powers following. Isaiah 44:3 Matthew 3:11 Mark 1:8 Mark 16:17-18 Luke 24:49 Acts 2:17-18 Acts 2:38 Acts 8:15-17 Acts 11:16.

And, is not This The THIRD Requirement For "priesthood induction" = Anointing? Compare Exodus 29:7 Leviticus 8:10-12.

Is God Performing "This" Baptism On us TODAY? IF so, Why NO "signs and powers"?

    Jesse Smith,

In Matthew Chapter 3, right before John baptized Jesus, Jesus said in Matthew 3:15, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

So Jesus answered and said to John, allow it to be for now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered or allowed him. Notice it says becomes "us" to fulfill all righteousness. It is the fulfillment of Exodus 29:4, to fulfill all righteousness! And there are three things that are very interesting about Jesus' coming.

At 30 years of age, that is the age of the priesthood according to Numbers 4:30. The priest had to go through a MIKVEH, a baptism. They had to be baptized from head to toe. The washing or the MIKVEH of the priesthood is in Exodus 29:4.

But, Moses was supposed to do the baptizing! That is interesting because here is John the baptizer standing there and Jesus says this is for "us" to fulfill all righteousness. And so John is stepping in the place of Moses and baptizing Jesus for the priesthood. The anointing of the priesthood is found in Exodus 29:7. They were anointed with oil.

So Jesus was 30 years of age. And in order for Him to officially, according to the law, enter into His priesthood according to the Jews, He would have to be baptized.

Palm Sunday, the Passover, crucifixion, Feast of Unleavened Bread, and Resurrection day (Feast of First Fruits) all are coming soon. Jesus fulfilled the old, and confirmed the new. Jesus fulfilled the Passover, the blood of the new testament shed for many. The Feast of Unleavened Bread, Jesus' sinless life, leaven is a symbol of sin in the Bible, making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins. First Fruits, Jesus is the firstfruits of them that slept.

The Tamid sacrifice was the beginning and the ending of the daily worship, a Perpetual Sacrifice the first and the last. It was done every day but on the day of the crucifixion, it is evident the timing was so precise it must have been for that day. Exodus 29:38-42

Early the morning of Passover the first hour Jesus was taken to Pilate to be judged where no fault was found in Him. At the exact time, the priest tied the Tamid lamb to the altar and inspected it to make sure there were no blemishes. Jesus was nailed to the cross the third hour, 9 AM. The priest slaughtered the lamb and placed it on the fire as the first sacrifice of the day on the third hour, 9 AM, the first hour of prayer. The lamb burns on the fire all day, a continual burnt sacrifice. All the people's sin sacrifices are placed on top of the wood where the first lamb is burning.

At the six-hour (noon) the priest brings the second lamb, ties it to the altar, and inspects it for blemishes and darkness fell over the land until the ninth hour 3 PM. The ninth hour 3 PM the last Tamid lamb was sacrificed and placed on the altar on top of all the sacrifices that day ending the daily sacrifices, the second hour of prayer; also called the hour of confession. At the same time the darkness lifted, Jesus gave up the ghost, earthquake, the veil of the temple rent, many bodies of the saints which slept arose and appeared to many and at this time they were sacrificing the Passover lambs. Hebrews 10:5-12

In respect of "God slaughtering animals for skins for Adam & Eve's covering", I don't see that this act of God instituted a blood sacrifice system. It was purely for the covering of their bodies. However, this does introduce the fact that these delightful animals created alongside Adam, were also created to be killed one day, whether for food, clothing or sacrifice.

We're not told how Adam & Eve found forgiveness & restoration from their first, & subsequent sins: whether by a blood sacrifice or some other way. In regards to Cain & Abel's offering to the Lord, again, we're not told: it could have been that Cain's offering was rejected as it was a non-blood offering or he could have done so with wrong motives. In any case, we don't even know whether the offerings given were for sin or maybe was another type of offering: a love or thank offering maybe.

So a lot of unknowns here in Genesis but when God commenced a blood offering in Genesis chapters 8, 22, etc. (just a burnt offering & not necessarily for sin) & then officially in Exodus 29:9 ff, we see that God had to exact payment for man's sin & He did so through sacrificing of animals as their blood only covered their sins until the next sacrifice. But Jesus became the one & only Sacrifice, so no other sacrifice would ever be needed nor could ever be found.

In the usual meaning in English, 'heave' means to 'lift by effort or force, or, to throw in a similar way'.

In Numbers 18:11, Exodus 29:27, etc., the "Heave Offering", or Terumah (Hebrew), was simply an offering that was made by the Israelites as a present. However, some Rabbis note that in its presentation, the offering was 'heaved' or raised up, or in an up & down motion.

This was distinguished from a 'wave offering', as you may have read of this also. In this offering, the offering was waved (i.e. in a repeated horizontal motion) before being presented.

EXODUS 29, What dose the killing of Animals have to do with God. This makes no sense to do this horrible act. I have never heard of any such act committed in the name God within my lifetime. Why are they not doing this today in churches, if this chapter demands it must be done!

To understand Acts 10:38, we need to look at the event it refers to, i.e. Matthew 3:13-17.

Three Questions: Why was Jesus baptized? Why did the Holy Spirit come upon Him? Why did God speak from Heaven?

    1. Jesus didn't need water baptism ( Mt 3:15) as that baptism by John was for a demonstration of one's acknowledgement & repentance for sins (not like Believers' Baptism today which is identification with the death & resurrection of Christ). John himself said that it was he that needed Jesus's baptism, which was not a water baptism but a spiritual one ( Mt 3:11).

    2. Jesus didn't need the Holy Spirit to come upon Him or in Him - he was sinless, filled with the Divine in the womb, birthed from God's Seed without human contribution & using Mary as the vehicle to bring His Son into the world with flesh & blood. Jesus was later tempted by Satan to sin & to receive a sin nature but He withstood him with the Word of God, His Own Authority.

    3. God could have remained silent during this time, but He chose to speak from Heaven.

What do these events tell us? It was the inauguration of Jesus' Ministry on Earth taking Him all the way to the Cross. His baptism identified Him in His priestly role ( Exodus 29:4, Leviticus 8:6) through priestly washing & also pointed in a faint manner, His prophesied death & resurrection, to which all who put their trust in Him would replicate by identification.

Then two more confirmations from Heaven for the benefit of those around to Jesus' Life & Work: the Spirit descended upon Him confirming His priestly position through an anointing ( Exodus 29:7, Leviticus 8:12) & God's verbal confirmation of Who Jesus is & acceptance of His position & work, as was in the days of Moses & Aaron ( Exodus 29:42-46).

Jesus came to fulfil a high priestly role that no earthly high priest could fulfil ( Hebrews 7:11-28) & all that took place at the Jordan, pointed to Jesus as sent from Heaven to make full payment for sin - no priest could ever do that.

    1. Acts 2: 38 Repent and believe on Jesus for forgiveness of past sin. Rom. 3:25

James 1: 14, 15 tells us where sin begins; 1 John 3:4 tells us what sin is, it is the transgression (breaking( of the law.

    2. I would like to point out in the old sacrificial system, that on the day of atonement there were 3 things at a minimum that had to be present in order to complete the atonement on the great day of atonement; a sacrifice ;the sanctuary; the High Priest.

I would like to point out that in Rom. 5:11 ...God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement." does not say the Atonement was full or complete.

Many times it is the case that words have more than 1 meaning and it is the case here as well. While it is possible that it could mean Atonement in the fullest sense of the word which would mean full and complete; it also could mean sacrifice; as in the sacrifice was full; the sacrifice of Jesus was perfect, there was no need of another sacrifice ever because His was all sufficient. Was there an example in the past where someone received atonement; yet it was not the Day of Atonement yet? Many in Leviticus; here is one: Lev. 5:10 The word atonement was used for purification also Exodus 29:37.

But in regard to forgiveness and how Jesus blood was applied to our account to forgive our sin; only 1 of the 3 things neccesary were present because there was no True High Priest on earth; the earthly system had been done away with when Jesus died on the cross; Jesus was not a High Priest when on earth Heb. 8: 4.

The sanctuary on Earth was but a copy of the real one in Heaven Heb. 9:1; Ex.15:17.

Why did Jesus go to heaven immediately upon resurection? John 20: 17 Tells us the he went, but why?

To apply his literal blood to the real temple in Heaven, just as Moses sanctified the Sanctuary in the OT; Lev. 4 :6; 8: 24 Read all of Lev. 8 and see how the service of the Sanctuary was purified for service as well as the priests.

In Matthew Chapter 3, when Jesus was baptized by John, it was in fulfillment of Exodus 29:4. Jesus answered John and said it becomes "us" to fulfill all righteousness. According to Numbers 4:30, 30 years of age is the age of the priesthood. The priest also had to go through a baptism, Exodus 29:4. Interesting because here is John the baptizer standing there and Jesus says this is for "us" to fulfill all righteousness. So John is stepping in the place of Moses and baptizing Jesus for the priesthood. Anointing of the priesthood is in Exodus 29:7. Jesus was 30, and Jewish law said you had to be 30, and be baptized. John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. Jesus' baptism was of righteousness

    Genesis 8:21
    Exodus 29:18
    Exodus 29:25
    Leviticus 1:9
    Numbers 15:3
    2 Corinthians 2:15

    Hopefully that's helpful :)

Actually, concerning the 'ereb boqer (evenings, mornings) of verse 14, the Adventists are not in error on this point. It's all in the word order. "Evening and morning" is the Biblical language used for meaning one day. This principle is set forth in the book of Genesis:

"So the evening and the morning were the first day." (1:5)

"So the evening and the morning were the second day." (1:8)

"So the evening and the morning were the third day." (1:13)

And so forth. In the Bible, days begin in the evening. Hence the reason the Lord said "from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath" ( Leviticus 23:32). The morning, then, would be the second part of the day.

However, with regards to sacrifices, this order is reversed. Instead of evening and morning, the language use for offerings is morning and evening. This is made plain in the following examples:

    Exodus 29:39
One lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight ['ereb].

    Numbers 28:4
The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, the other lamb you shall offer in the evening.

    2 Kings 16:15
On the great new altar burn the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering...

    1 Chronicles 16:40
to offer burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly morning and evening...

    2 Chronicles 2:4
...for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the New Moons, and on the set feasts of the LORD our God...

    2 Chronicles 13:11
And they burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense...

Thus the phrase "morning" and "evening" became the staple for signifying sacrificial offerings all throughout Scripture. As Siegfried Schwantes points out, this expression perpetuated into the post-Old Testament when the Apocrypha came about. 1 Esdras 5:50 says, "and they offered sacrifices according to the time, and burnt offerings to the Lord both morning and evening."

Now, if the text in Daniel 8:14 had stated 2300 mornings and evenings, then a case could be made that the passage was, indeed, talking about sacrifices (though, I think, it would still seem that each morning and evening would stand for a day). However, the text doesn't use that order. Rather, it says "evenings and mornings" which, as indicated above, is the language used for a day. So, the KJV rendering of 'ereb boqer as meaning "days" may be a bit interpretive, but it is by no means inaccurate. The translators knew what they were doing in this case. So, understanding that the expression means 2300 days and applying the year-day principle to this text (which had also been done from time to time prior to the Millerite movement), the doctrine that this is a 2300 year prophecy stands upon firm ground.
