Hi Larry. You can find the references to the kings of Israel (as opposed to the kings of Judah) in the following Bible references: 1 Kings chapter 12 to 1 Kings chapter 22 and 2 Kings chapter 8 to 2 Kings chapter 15.

And you'd be looking for the following names of Israel's kings (from the above references): Jeroboam 1, Nadab, Baasha, Elah, Zimri, Tibni, Omri, Ahab, Ahaziah, Joram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, Jehoash, Jeroboam 2, Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah, Hoshea. After this last king, Israel goes into Assyrian captivity.

    Hi BMW.

    That is a great question!!

Here's a portion of an article from Wayne Jackson.

    Part 1 of ?

    Gentile Accountability

That the ancient Gentile world was religiously and morally culpable before the Creator is most obvious from the testimony of both Old and New Testaments. In literature of the Old Testament, the idolatry of the pagans is condemned repeatedly, and judgments from God were visited upon these peoples.

    (1) Gentile idolatry is condemned as sin by the prophets of God (see Exodus 20:3-5; 32:35; Numbers 25:1-9; Deuteronomy 5:7-9; 6:4, etc.). The captivity of the southern kingdom of Judah was attributed directly to the worship of the false gods of the Gentiles ( 2 Kings 22:17). For an extensive array of information on this theme, see Helmbold 2003, 697-708.

    (2) Gentile immorality was exposed and rebuked by the Old Testament writers. For example, in Amos 1:3 - 2:3, the prophet denounced Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, and Edom for their brutality toward their neighbors. The Ammonites "ripped open pregnant women" in their vicious conquests, etc. See also the extensive material presentation of judgments against the heathen nations contemporary with the prophet Jeremiah (chapters 46-51).

    (3) In his epistle to the Christians in Rome, Paul describes the religious-moral conditions of the Roman world.

    Romans 1:24-27.

From these facts, therefore, one may conclude: (1) Sin is a transgression of divine law ( 1 John 3:4); conversely, where there is no law, there is no sin ( Romans 4:15). (2) But the Gentiles were indicted as sinners. (3) Consequently, they were amenable to a law, and they had violated that law. That their actions were designated as sin likewise implies that they were under divine law.

    See part 2.

Healthy Mental Attitude for Gods Word

Something I think about all the time is what do I need or don't i need to help me better to walk with

the father. There's a record in 2 Kings 22:11 of a very young ruler that once he read the words of the book he

humbled himself and look at the action taken. At this time Gods people were buried in idolatry even inside the

temple. Look at what this young ruler does sends the priests to Go enquire of the Lord what to do, then they go

to hildah a prophetess of the true God that in verses 15-20 tells the messengers that God saw where josiah's

heart was and he was going to be blessed. In Chapter 23 He gathers all the people together reads the Word of God

and says to the people were gonna commit to this what a leader! From verse 4-verse 20 its called spiritual house

cleaning, this guy was Gods TERMINATOR and in the end look at what God says concerning this ruler verse 20-25.

Again he cleaned up everything in his power he could do, our challenge is first in our minds then in

our actions to be pleasing to God. Just some thoughts. P.S. Josiah's humility was seen in His performance!

The Greek word for "secret" means: "hidden", "hidden away, secret, stored up" (Strong's Concordance G614, "apokruphos"). This suggests that God sees everything ( Proverbs 15:3) and can reveal it as He pleases.

Proverb 15: 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

So if a person does something sinful, wicked or deceitful, then God can bring it to light to others such as David's and Bathsheba's adultery ( 2 Samuel 11:9-10); hiding God's Law among rubbles in The Temple ( 2 Kings 22); or in modern times God's revealing of peoples' true, rich history (for example, aboriginal people throughout the world wrongfully made to look primitive and unintelligent despite their rich history and contributions to the world).

2 Kings 22:8 And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

2 Kings 22:10 And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

2 Kings 22:11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

2 Kings 22:12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king's, saying,

2 Kings 22:13 Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

    Samuel,

When you look at the kings of the United Kingdom of Israel, Saul, David and Solomon, they ALL had fatal flaws, but in spite of that fact, David was a man after God's own heart...

"And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will." Act 13:22

Following Solomon's reign, the kingdom split and very very few of the kings displayed any heart toward God and as a result the Assyrians and Babylonians invaded their countries and took captives.

Josiah was one of the very few who had a heart for God like is "father" David.

"And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left." 2Ki 22:2

David and Josiah both show up in Jesus' genealogy in Matthew 1:6,10, and, yes, Amon is there too, but was NOT like David...

"Amon was twenty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh did. And he walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshipped them: And he forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD." 2Ki 21:19-22

Verse 2 in 2Kings 22 mentions David as Josiah's father. In what capacity is he his father, since Amon is his biological father?

    Women Preach On!

The Sons of Aaron were the priestly order UNTIL the renting of the veil ( Matthew 27:51)

    Teaching is open to everyone.

    Class is in Session.

    Christ is the Head Master.

Women were prophesying (teaching) and judging (governing / leading) all throughout the Old Testament; Miriam ( Exodus 15:10), Deborah ( Judges 4:4), Huldah ( 2 Kings 22:14), etc

As it was with David, and the handful of godly Princes who reigned; so it was for Josiah, that the most of the people did not fear the Lord and walk before Him in truth and holiness in the same way. So while the righteous lived it was a benefit that brought the blessings of mercy and quietness to all; when the godly are taken away, the people must then give account of themselves before God.
  • Lona on 2 Kings 22 - 6 years ago
What a wonderful thing that these people had removed the living god from his rightful place in a nation just like America and many others and yet raised up leadership that took a stand pleasing to himself god is yet merciful but scripture indicates that there will be a reckoning day for sinners and nations refusing to promote his holy word

Its good to get a full understanding of the whole Bible. (e.g. v 3) In the eighteenth year of Josiah, Jeremiah had already been preaching to the people for five years; so when we read what Jeremiah was told to say; we have a picture of what the times were like, and what kind of people the rest of the country was; even though God gave them king Josiah! We should see our times as the Lord sees them.
  • Bright Nyathi on 2 Kings 22 - 7 years ago
Josiah submitted and humbled his heart before God of Israel and sought the desire to comprehend the requirements of the Almighty God from him(Josiah).
  • Rita Holland on 2 Kings 22 - 8 years ago
2 Kings 22 clearly states that there were men who were against God and then there were those who were for God. Those who were against God fought and were at wars with God's people. They despised the Bible because God's word was in it. They got rid of the bibles also. Hatred was a plus for them. Now those who were for God read his words from the bible and believed in Him. They loved Him.

The crop was planted and the harvest must always come forth...those things which took place earlier brought repecursions.Sin always brings forth it 's ramafications. No wonder the Bible says do not be deceived God cannot be mocked you shall reap what you sow...Thus, indeed sin is not bad because it is forbidden, sin is forbidden because sin is bad.But it brings peace in my heart when i know that God is just...and like Josiah, if my heart is sincerely right in seeking Him in true repentance, then,God will surely have spare and have mercy on me..inspite of His coming judgement

Paul was called to go to the Gentiles. The disciples were told not to go. 1Timothy 2:12 states that "I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over man. But 2 Kings 22:12-14, was not Huldah a prophetess, a woman? Who was told to go tell of the risen Christ to the disciples? A woman. Who carried The Word and gave birth to The Word? A woman. I am a woman and I love teaching The Word. Be bless.
