Why do we have so many hypocrites in the Christendom trying to interpret a simple verse of a whole chapter. Just to suit their darkened mind. All talk had been on pants or trousers. What then do you say about shirts and T-shirts that are been worn by both men and women? Check up on Genesis 3:21. The first tailor who is God Himself clothed both of them alike. Please leave all these jargons and let's move on to perfecting our walk in Christ in this garden of Salvation. Let's work on how to really populate the Kingdom of our Christ by reaching out to the lost. Stop giving heed to all these Jewish Fables, move on to knowing and experiencing the Power of Christ while we await His coming with soberness. God bless us all. Amen
  • Jacque on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
    @Michele,
If you want to go into details...we were not clothed at all in the beginning. God created Adam and Eve to wear no clothes. Pants and dresses did not exist then... So that is easy to see that God meant something else. People have a tendency, when they don't agree with something, to look it up in the bible and take a verse totally out of context to fit their comfort zone. Sometimes that comfort zone even stems from hate. We truly know that Jesus is NOTING but LOVE, and he loves us all. But, you can still find closed minded people that will take a verse and try and say else wise. Just because you don't agree, doesn't mean that God has or had your same point of view. He loves us ALL...POINT BLANK!!! He would not send us to hell for wearing clothes that don't supposedly pertain to our gender. If that were the case then He would have wiped out everyone back, because they ALL wear the same type of garment... a robe... sandals...no difference. Jesus Mercy goes far beyond our measure... and you are denying that by your closed minded views on His word. Just keep in mind that we all sin... and sin is sin... we are ALL saved who accept Him as our Lord and Savior and do our best to be more like Him each day. He says we will still be sinning up till He returns. What we wear is far less thing to worry about than making sure that our Love for Him is the most important thing in our lives, and that we seek to LOVE OTHERS as well. We encourage, not degrade. Jesus loved despite sin... He didn't call you out...He loved on you...

Lets keep to the word of God. How many laws of God were violated by Lucifer that God threw him down from heaven? Satan is watching you that is removing from God's Word! be born again, then cultures, opinions of men, "what will people say?", ...will no longer get hold of you. The Holy Ghost is still in the world today. Repent and ask Him to sanctify and fill you. Then all these questions will die. "O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" (Matthew12:34). As a sinner, the first thing you need is deliverance, not argument. REPENT wearing man's garment is ABOMINATION!!!
  • Dominic on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
According to the Bible, God when creating he created every organism according to their own kind and he gave man dominion to all living things. So God he gave us power but not over his word (Bible). So through bad devil spirit which to the humans turned to go against Gods law; allow me to say this issue of dress court is very issue which we must take note of. Nowadays people do not know their gender what makes man to wear womans cloth and garment man; to wear devil is entered to the world. People of God watch out.

    @Brother Johann,
It is quite unlikely that a lady would cry in the city without being heard. Their cities were not as noisy as ours, and God has been very much aware of such conditions. Also stoning did not prompt without facts being assessed by the elders, sometimes they had to use Urim and Thummim to prove if one is guilty or not.
    God bless you.
  • Brother Johann on Deuteronomy 22 - 11 years ago
I just want a clarification on verses 23 and 24: if a soon-to-be-married virgin gets raped within the city and cries out but no one hears her, will she still be stoned to death?
  • Eddy on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
It is in the very Bible that nothing shall be added, nor taking away. There is no justification to take away from what is written with one excuse and another. We should all keep to this Deuteronomy 22:5.
  • Jessy on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
Let everyone of you think for a second, in those days there was nothing as pant or skirt. Men and women wore the same attire. Jesus Christ and his disciples all wore long robes so did the women. Trousers were made by mankind through God's wisdom. The truth is that, those who are religious will eventually crumble. Don't forget what the bible said about religious people. I will encourage all of you to follow the right spirit which is to believe in God with all your heart and know what God wants. God wants us to love him and only him every other things are for him to judge.
  • Aly on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
Wasn't this just related to God not wanting men to go to pagan temples and worship pagan goddesses by dressing like them?
  • Joann on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
I don't want to write what I think but I will. God is not concerned about what we wear so much as he is about our hearts. However, it's in the bible for a reason. I believe that he was speaking in a sexual tone. We sometimes take the bible out of context. Today is the day! When I wear pants is it because I think myself to be manly? No! The garment I wear was not made for a man to wear. Although a man wanting to perceive himself as a woman might well wear them. You mean I shouldn't wear my husband's shirt? Say if I was cleaning my house and I put on his shirt because it was more comfortable. It goes back to the heart or the spirit of which it is worn.
  • Richard on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
It seems there is more discussion about woman wearing men's clothing or pants than men wearing woman's clothing or dresses!! If a man has womens clothing in his closet people seem to think that he is weird or strange.
  • Dugn on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
Old testament is for God's chosen people to follow. If they (Jews) cannot follow EVERY LAW, then God GAVE US (Jews & Gentiles) our Lord, Jesus Christ to provide us with Righteousness because we could not, never will be able to live under God's Laws and commandments. I am Saved by the perfect blood of my Savior. Believe that Jesus Christ was our sacrifice, given by our Father as a FREE gift, no strings attached, other than Believing and having Faith in His Son, that WHOEVER believe in Him, shall have everlasting life. (period!)
  • Emmanuel on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
It is not good to judge but The point is plain and clear woman should not use what is of men and men should not use what is of woman because it is an abomination. Taking a careful look av the word abomination we can see that the consequences of people violating it is great, which may even lead to death, so biblically it may hinder any and sex that use what is of opposite sex not to enter the kingdom of God. The bible say anybody that violates small of the commandment has violated all and the bible also says all unrighteous is sin. It's advisable to abstain from it. Thanks, may God help up all.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Deuteronomy 22 - 11 years ago
All scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is for doctrine, reproof, instruction in righteousness so the man of God can be mature. No one scripture is of any private interpretation. We have to compare scripture with scripture, and know that these things that happened in the old testament are to be examples unto us. We have to keep the context of the chapter in mind. God is holy, and requires his people to be holy as he is. Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed holy, but adulterers, and fornicators will be judged. Men and women have special roles in marriage. Men are to build up the wife as the weaker vessel, and wives are to be pure in the manner in which they dress. God looks for inner beauty, and a meek, and quiet spirit which is of great worth to God. Marriage is to be with one man, and one woman who have separated themselves to the Lord. When a man marries his wife, he is to be sure of her virtue. We are to maintain holiness in our homes. God want us to dress as holy people are to dress so that there is a difference from the people of God, from the people of the world.

Does anybody realize what verse 28 & 29 really reads?
  • Bonnie on Deuteronomy 22 - 11 years ago
I believe it is referring to the homesexual and lesbian deal. I do not believe a woman will go to hell for wearing pants. If we are to follow the Bible word for word then we would have lots of people killing their own children. read ch 21 vs. 18 to 21 of the same book. shall we start stoning children too?
  • Bb on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
I really believe this was talking about homosexuality and lesbianisn.. Women taking on the roll of a man and man taking on the roll of a woman..This verse has nothing to do with woman wearing pant to church. Also realize pants were not invented at that time.

What the men wore under their robes I haven't a clue, what the woman wore under their robes, i still don't have a clue. But it is not about the clothes you wear that will save and sanctify you its what's in the heart that counts. Man looks at the outward appearance but God looks at the heart.

If you search this further it was also relaying to the future not the present time in Deut.

I am a pastor and I am not hung up on women wearing pants to church, I m after the hearts and soul. If women are to be convict of wearing pants let the Word of God deal with them not you.

The bible said to study the word, research the word..don't just pick out a certain sentence you want to specify and leave out the meat of the verse. This verse pertains to women and men. Not just the women. tk for listening:)
  • Michele on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
I beleive the Bible is the infalliable, inspired Word of God and it is literal. It says what it means and means what it says. I recently studied this verse for myself as I had been confused and drawn away from my conviction to dress as a lady of God. I believe that God has created men and ladies differently and He expects us to be different in ALL ways including dress. I will take it a step further and say that I believe God does not want ladies to do a man's work, walk like a man, talk like a man, etc---it was not intended this way from the beginning. Ladies are to be the weaker vessel--a help meet to their own husband...meek, modest, and Godly.

In Deuteronom 22:9 what does divers seeds mean?
  • Larry on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 12 years ago
I believe that it's very wrong to give your opinion when it comes to the word of God. I believe that God wants us to rightly divide the word when sharing it with others. So, I will give you a rightly divided answer to Deut 22:5. "geber" heb word for man Strong's concordance #h1397 means, strong man, warrior( emphasizing strenght or ability to fight).

"Keliy" hebrew word for "pertaineth" strong's # h3615 means: articles, vessels, utensils such as: hunting or war, of music, tool (of labour), equipment, yoke(of oxen), utensils, furniyure. This should open your eyes of a more understanding to Deut 22:5, Thanks Larry
  • Michael Snead on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 12 years ago
I believe that God expects us to be different from one another (man vs Woman - Sinner vs Christian ) If we set ourselves out to be different from the world, we will be blessed. You can let your flesh control what you do determines your blessings. Questions? contact me @ Michael Stephen Snead on Facebook.

  • Margaret on Deuteronomy 22 - 12 years ago
These verses are about protection. Protection of the species that the line doesn't die out. He created them male and female. He told them to go and replenish the earth. Ask yourself why the following verse is about allowing the mother bird to live. She is to continue laying eggs so that her species doesn't die out. Today with so much genetic modifying is it too fanciful to believe Brave New World isn't just around the corner where man is reproduced in farms?
It is about distinction of the sexes. If a woman is a woman, feminine and attractive a man will desire her and not another man.
Today we find two men bringing up four baby boys birthed by four surrogate mothers. This is the result of women looking and acting like men.
  • Lewis on Deuteronomy 22 - 12 years ago
this verse would have been very obvious to people reading it back when it was written. since men and women both wore the same garments from day to day, mainly robes, then what was left that only would pertain to a man? the answer is armor. women were not to wear armor, which pertains to the man, and fight in combat.
  • Kim on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 12 years ago
I believe that this verse is referring to women who purposely try to look as manly as possible. Many lesbians are guilty of this. If a woman wears modest feminine looking pants, how is she trying to appear as a man? I've known many Godly women who love and serve the Lord who have short hair and wear pants. It's what's in our hearts that God cares about the most.
  • Taylay on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 12 years ago
The bible is clear, we as women should not wear anything thing that pertain to a man. When you do reseach you will find that women wore dresses and skirts for 6,000 years, it was when the up rising of the feminist when pants were worn as a sign they were a feminist and that they were rebelling againist the word of god. We should believe the whole word of god and not just the new and not the old(testiments). Pants were made for men to wear only. Have you notice that on the bathroom door it has a woman with a dress on and a man with pants on? The world even know unconciencly that a woman suppose to wear dresses!!! I rather do what the word of god say than man, because man can't put you in heaven but god can! The bible says if you love me you will keep my commandments,
it just did stop at his commandments its all of his word. Search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life; its in the word of god. Women should not wear anything, that pertainth to a man, I don't care what man say, its what god says that matter, what man is wiser than the god almighty jesus christ?
  • Sheliah Germany on Deuteronomy 22 - 12 years ago
I think it is very plain what the Bible means. If you are not interested in pleasing Jesus Christ, who was GOD IN THE FLESH ( 1 Tim 3:16,2 Corin. 5:19,St. John 1:10) you will listen to Hollywood and let the world tell you what the bible means. I will not take that risk!!! I choose to believe the Bible! Its not hard to do if you LOVE HIM!!!!
