I am confused by all the comments concerning Deuteronomy 22:5. Does anyone have scripture to match this from the New Testament? I know that most of the Old Testament is pertaining to Jews only. I am by no means a Bible scholar, but I believe God looks at the heart not the clothes you have on.

I believe just what the bible say. I would not add anything to it or take anything away from it.

The bible say that a man should wear what belongs to women and also a women should not wear what belong to men. So i think that trouser is not for we women to wear cos this trouser were made for men. May the lord lead us in his path in Jesus name amen.
  • Kola Adesuji on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
Deuteronomy 22:5 man should wear not what belong to woman and woman should not wear man 's garment. The question is that what are the things that belong to men and women. another thing we need divine interpretation
  • JP on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
Mr Williams when bible used the word skirt it was referred to the end part of a clothe and not the female skirt just like the cafftan we men wear today.

On 22 and 5 its clear he says anything that pertains etc.thsts what he means . under garments and outer garments. But the pastors let or should I say allow the women to wear what they want to gain members. Some are so worldly its a shame with long splits showing all, leggings tight , shitrs low cut tight blue jeans, low cut blouse showing the. chest , showing their under garments thru the clothes. Etc. How are you a light for the world and you look ,talk, act , and dress the same. And we know what pertsin To a women in our culture we play dumb cause we want to look like a sinner a claim holiness. Also if that the case why we call a man a cross dresser when he wears skirt, dresses wigs etc. And women butches that wear boxers combat boots pants sagging etc. Its does not mean being a homosexual we got direct laws for that in the old and new testament . The bible is just being fulfilled . So far as freedom in Christ your free from sin not to do or dress as you want to, we did what we wanted to in sin yet we was bound. Many shall depart. From the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.

Real christians that have been truly converted, I dont have an opinion but I do have the word of God and it speaks for itself. Romans 6:4, 8:5-11, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Being a women before I was converted was disastrous because all I could see was women looking like women on tv and were trying to be so sensual to get attention from men in order to feel loved mothers, business women, wives, church women, even grandmothers looking no different from the unsaved including myself seeming as if there was no hope for me, young ladies that were my age, even little girls. People quick to yell perverted men raping women and messing with children thats why need to cover up not saying it still cant happen if we are but what are we putting out there. When Jesus Saved and Delivered me I was and still am sensitive to sin against a Mighty and Holy Holy Holy Lord that made me and each and everyone of us, we are bought with a price and God commands us not ask us what to do so if you really desire to abide by God 's word and to do His will he will enable you without a doubt and others and don 't and that are not converted God sees your sin and he hates it and Judgement is upon you so Repent and call upon the name of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and may the Lord God has mercy upon you.

It is obvious that the people of the world likes to disobey GOD and ague the scripture. Most times, they are not to be blamed. I blame the preachers, pastors, etc. Who decieve them and will not tell them the truth may be because of to have excess members. The BIBLE has made it clear to us in the book of Deu.22:5 that: The woman shall not wear that WHICH PERTAINETH unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman 's garment: for ALL that do are ARBOMINATION unto thr Lord thy God. Now the first thing you have to ask is what the word Pertaineth means. Without being told, with an ordinary common sense pertaineth simply means something that looks like or something that is like... Trousers are ment for men, there is nothing like woman man trouser, if you say there is then there should be women men skirts. Naturally looking at it, when a woman puts on a trouser, it shows and exposses the exact shape of her body and it is very seductive. In general, any clothe that someone will wear male or female and it will show the neckedness of the person is bad and does not pleases God. Please don 't be decieved by any one. May God open our eyes in Jesus name. Amen.

What if I want to go hiking or my exercise? I don 't have a single long dress? I 'm a babe inChrist. Should I go buy long dresses?
  • Katie on Deuteronomy 22 - 9 years ago
If verse 5 really has to do with clothing then you would be saying that women today wouldn 't be allowed to wear skirts. Because guess what!!?? Men at the time of this writing wore SKIRTS. They didn 't wear trousers or pants! So ponder than for a moment.
  • Francis on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
trousers was not what the Bible meant. you have to read the manners and culture of the people of Palestine to be able to see the differences in their attires, then will you understand the verse. God is not the Author of confusion
  • Faith Adibe on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
i sincerely think that trousers were made originally for men....and following DEUT 22 5...why would a woman have this feeling that can also wear what was made for man originally....am not judging any one but the devil has actually made us ignorant of the scripture...we should study and relate it to our modern days....God bless us all in Jesus name....AMEN
  • SheILa on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
I believe Joseph 's comment says it right, for 1 Peter 3 v4 says but let it be the hidden man of the heart, this means his eyes to his beloved not for other eyes to see his beloved. Women should not dress in ways that causes men to look upon, women who dress in inappropriate clothing causes men to think, see, wander, and lust so there for both have sinned, women doubly with her own foolish dress attire.

  • Tom Pierce on Deuteronomy 22 - 9 years ago
Jarrod Swan. You are mistaken. Rape is mentioned in 25 26 and it says the man should be killed, but not the victim. And if you think you, or anyone for that matter, does not deserve death at the hands of our loving and just God then keep studying the Bible till you see it.
  • Laura on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
I 've never seen Jesus nor any of his disciples depicted as wearing pants! His garments were described as robes in the gospels. The Bible also says, "But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head it is the same as having her head shaved. " 1 Cor. 11 5. What 's with all this legalism? Where is the freedom in Christ?
  • Lawrencia on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
i think the trousers was actually made for the men but then came the saying that "what men can do women can do and do it better ".this made women to start wearing it cause they felt they were also entitled to anything the mans wears so please beware my dear sisters.

According to this scripture, date and time one must ask what the attire of men and women was. We certainly know trousers, pants, or breeches were not worn as an outer garment by neither gender. They wore robes that were precisely design for each gender. In fact, breeches were used as an under garment and were first mentioned in Exdous Chapter 28 42 instructions that were given to Moses by God that breeches should be wore under the Priest s robe, to cover his nakedness. Otherwise, I cannot recall any scriptures in the bible that s dealing with pants breeches as outer clothing. Example gird up your lions , was a phrase used throughout the bible for many reasons, however, literally it meant for one to take his robe , pull it from the back looping it between the legs to the front, then secure the hemmed end of the robe with a belt tightly around the waist usually as soldier prepared for war namely Israel. Securing the robe not pants in place enabled the soldier to move freely. Now exactly, what does the Deut. 22 5 means? Since the scripture is speaking on women forbidden to wear male clothes and male forbidden to wear female clothes and calls it an abomination disgrace hatred in the eyesight of God. I m lead to believe that the Holy Spirit is speaking on homosexuality also known as cross dressing. This scripture truly lays open and exposes the hatred God has for homosexual acts not the person John 3 16 for God so love the world . and Romans 5 8 While we were yet sinners Jesus died for us . So He doesn t hate the people and we shouldn t either we should pray that the Gospel of Christ touch their lives. If the Holy Spirit convicts one s heart for wearing pants, then He s dealing with that individual, however, if another believer wear pants in moderation and the Holy Spirit doesn t convict that person, then the bible says don t look down and discourage the believer. It s the heart of man, which will be judge before God and the only thing will matter in the end is . Did He trust and believe the Finished Work on the Cross by Christ . For salvation is wrapped up and tangled into Jesus Christ and Him Crucified! For all of you jeans wearers wear them with moderation remember you are a new creature in Christ Jesus, so the way you formerly wore clothes it should be no more, but the new man at all times should represent Christ . And yes, in a nice pair of jeans or slacks of your own gender.

The bible says the Holy spirit will teach us all things,it is high time we completely submit to Him,then Deu 22 5 will not be an issue.Because He will guide u, make u understand the word of God and He will not allow u to do contrary to the word of God.Absolte submission to Him is the best.
  • Ladyt53bird on Deuteronomy 22 - 9 years ago
I believe and taught...a women should not wear pants in public, church and at all...men should not wear clothing that are women...we do anyway. God change not.A women head should be cover while praying, a man should not have long hair...
  • Victoria on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
Although the motive may not be intentionally seductive, but remember what it says in Mathew 5 28 "but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart ". It says he has already committed adultery WITH her. That means she has SINNED with him. That is just the reality of it. let us try to be BLAMELESS as it says in Philippians 2 15. So that when we meet the Lord one day and he tells us this man lust after you at so and so time while on earth, he wont say "she seduced me, I could see her shape, her underwear lining ". I pray that the Lord help us because this is a very controversial issue, and it is so sad the body of Christ is split apart from head to toe. The world is comming to an end, please "Seek the LORD and His strength Seek His face continually " Psalm 105 4. God be with us !
  • Martha on Deuteronomy 22 - 9 years ago
Jarrod, it is true the law of Moses condoned stoning as a punishment for breaking some of the "laws " but when Jesus came the law was fulfilled and our sins were and are covered by His Blood. 1 Timothy 2 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus John 8 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
  • Jarrod Swan on Deuteronomy 22 - 9 years ago
Stoning is condoned at least four times in Deut. 22, with one of the instances pertaining to rape victims who didn 't scream loud enough 23 24 . I have trouble reconciling my conception of a loving, caring, God with someone who would condone such terrible things. Any thoughts?
  • Daniel on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 9 years ago
Deuteronomy 22 5. I believe it means a man should not wear clothings that belong to a woman be it trousers, shirts, vests, etc. Thousands of years ago, trousers did not exist. There were gowns overalls which both men and women wore but they are known to be women 's outfit now. I would just advice we abstain from things that can make people sin like women wear seductive tight fitting pants or skirts ,men wearing loosed shirts and so on. May the Holy Spirit help us in understanding the word of God better. Amen
