Verse 16. I shall agree with Bruce in that Paul was not given authority to alter Gods word and in like manner Jesus himself clearly states that he does not either, have that power. We do not dispute The Jesus bore our sins, God Forbid and that his life was sacrificed so that we may be forgiven. However man does not know sin, had it not been for the laws and statutes of God spoken through Moses.

    V. 18, speaking of false religion. Common today. One such has angels on the top of their temples. Golden in color. Who aren't saved by grace, but feign righteousness and godliness in their appearances. Fake humility, fake spirituality, lost. Not holding the Head, who is Jesus Christ. Don't let them defraud, or steal, your life in Christ.
  • Irene123 on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
    V. 18 is very simply saying we are not to worship angels, or light candles to graven images, nor pray to a woman statue, but to worship and pray to and give our praises to ONLY God - in Jesus' name. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (God is a spirit, not a graven image). Mary was 'just' and ONLY His mother; she followed Acts 2:38 with all the others in Acts ch. 2.
  • Wayne on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
V.18- We are not to be persuaded or deceived by those who are not following Jesus but spreading another gospel , which is not another gospel. Therefore, if persuaded to leave the gospel of Christ, we lose our reward. Christ is the one who is truth and speaks the truth. He never pushes us away but draws us closer to Him. Trust in the Lord with all your heart!
  • Mari on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
Fe!icia, we are to worship only Christ Not angels. God is the only mediator. Its only between God

Felicia:You answered your last post by your first post amazing and Mike confirmed it. O foolish Galatians who hath bewitched you--- Galatians 3:1
  • Mike on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
Worship ONLY Jesus. Outside of Jesus, we are to worship NO One else or anything else - THis includes angels, men, statues, traditions etc. Do not allow satan to TRICK you through blind men teaching/talking about things NOT by scriptures; often time by their pride and arrogant head knowledge. God has rewarded us His Truth(Jesus). Therefore be humble
  • Karl on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
to Felicia - you sure picked a good verse to ponder on. Just my interpretation - a sincere and humble trust in the teachings put forth by JESUS, and a rejection of any vain embellishments or interpretations put forth by those who would claim insights based in the vanities of false imaginations. You sure picked a good chapter - so much good advice for us all in this one. Hope that helps?

Verse 18 Can someone explain what this means? Please. Thank you.
  • Felicia on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
    Verse 16
Christ is all we need for salvation. We
don't need to be on a particular diet or observe some kind of a religious exercise. Neither do we have to seek God by means of other religious cults or unbiblical philosophies. Christ alone holds the answers to true meaning of life. Because Christ is Life, He is the unique source of knowledge and power for the Christian life.
  • Wayne on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
Andrea, read v. 14. The old covenant was ordinances. We are free from the religious rituals of the past. Paul says was contrary to us. Nailed to His cross. We are free by His grace. Jesus says not that which goes into the mouth defiles the man but that which comes out. So we are not to be judged by eating, such as pork, or drinking.
  • Jeremiah 31;33 on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
2 corinthians 3.Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
  • Andrea on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
Not sure if I understood vs 8 ' let no man judge you for what you eat and drink and the holy days.

Each time I eat pork I felt guilty after.
Should I feel better now that I read this scripture?
  • Rick Sparks on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago

Verse 8 shows that we must be careful not to be fooled by philosophy or human wisdom.
  • Shirley fink on Colossians 2 - 7 years ago
The lord says ask and than thank him. The only way to obtain this behavior is to ask and than thank and praise him till you see it manifested in your life. We can do this because christ spirit lives in us and as we thank God he brings what we need for this to be done. God is faithful to the ones that are truly his

When we are tempted and under attack from the fiery darts of the enemy we must remember to walk in Christ always, when we have Christ in mind we notice these things happening so put on the full armour of God and walk with him. Surrender yourself to the Lord, don't lean on your own understanding and take up your cross. Hallelujah!

In the old testament circumcision was key in defying an Israelites BUT today baptism is key n defining a Christian. Therefore l still think Baptism took the place of circumcision ... If read with Vs 10 12.
  • Dot on Colossians 2:14 - 8 years ago
One has to look at the entire chapter of Colossians 2 and what it is saying to the Spiritual person, having been completed in him and dwelling all the fullness of the Godhead bodily in putting off the body of sin of the flesh by circumcision of Christ, being buried with him in baptism, risen with him thru faith, having being forgiven of all trespasses, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary against us, nailing it to the cross, he triumphed over them in it, then he said let no man judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath, which is a shadow of things to come, just as Christ healed on the Sabbath, and did things contrary to the Pharisees understanding Paul is saying we too must operate not in the flesh but in the spirit putting away the ordinances and moving on.
  • Adam on Colossians 2 - 8 years ago
Water Baptism is the washing away the sin's after you have been Born Again!!!!!!
  • Jaala on Colossians 2:14 - 8 years ago
wow, it is obvious that too many people take God, our Creator and holy Father's Truth out of context! yes He definitely freed us of the guilt from the great Accuser. being born into sin is clearly a statement that shows who's side we are on early on in our immaturity. Jesus took away our marriage to Satan and set us free so that we are subjected unto the Father in heaven just as He is. that is not a burden but a blessing to follow after the greatest, most perfect being of all time and a promise that we are able to take after our holy Father! after all, the 10 commandments are the perfect character of God! who would ever wish to delete them aside from God's enemy, the great Accuser, Satan himself?
  • Row on Colossians 2:8 - 8 years ago
Paul's message enlighten me that even the elect, their philosophies can have a tint of vain deceit and can misled us from the true teaching of Christ. Just like believing in feng shui and other beliefs from different culture. We can be a bondage from this philosophy of their elect.
