The word "If" is not "Ean" in Greek but "EI" . We are often comfortable with "if" which means a condition that is not yet fulfilled, a hypothetical condtion with the possibility of a future realization. But in this verse the "If" have the idea of "ASSUMING THAT YOU CONTINUE IN THE FAITH, ie CONTINUANCE IN THE GOSPEL AS IT WAS PREACHED BY PAUL WOULD SHOW THAT THE PERSON WAS SAVED AND THEREFORE WOULD BE PRESENTED HOLY WITHOUT BLEMISH AND UNCHANGEABLE BEFORE GOD. It is not the retention of salvation but the possession of salvation shown by their continuance in the gospel.

I have NEVER read in the Bible the phrase "GOD the son" can you please give any scripture where it says God the son? The answer to that is NO. However it does say son of God. God is a spirit they that worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth. God , son, and Holy ghost are one not 3 . Referance jon 3'16, 1John 3'16 even says for GOD laid down his life. Here oh Israel our Lord our God is one.

Jesus prayed to His Father before the crucifictionto let the cup pass him by...and He said to His Father right before He died "Father, in Your hands I now give up my spirit" Surely He wasn't talking to himself.
  • S Lawson Sr. on Colossians 1:17 - 11 years ago
It means that His Father gave to Him the authority to do what He did. He said the what you see me do or hear me say I all comes from My Father... Jesus never took credit for doing anything. He always gave the credit to His father.

I would like to address these comments by 1st saying I respect yr opinions. When Jesus was a baby who was over the universe? Remember, like anyone else God has attributes. One of his is that he is omni present, he created as spirit and that same spirit wrapped itself in flesh Col 3:16 for great is the mystery of godliness, For without controversy God was manifested in the what? the Flesh! justified in the spirit seen of angels, preached unto the gentiles and recieved into glory who asended? Jesus Christ Right? We just need to take it as its written and believe him for who he is! His name means whatMatt2 God with us right? It didn't say a part of God 1/2 of God. see what I mean? Did not he proclaim in Rev that he is the 1st and last the begin/ending he said he was the almighty! how many all mighties do u need. God bless, chaz from durham nc.

  • Timothy Wayne George on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
The mystery of the Gospel that was hid from the ages, Christ in you the hope of glory. Praise God for this is a sure hope that every born again christian has living in him the Spirit of Jesus Christ the hope of glory. David said I will be happy, when I awake in your likeness. This is the blessed hope, that we have in Jesus Christ, that we should be holy, with out spot or wrinkle at his coming. So let the blood of Jesus cleanse you, and make you white as snow. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Ricky on Colossians 1:15 - 12 years ago
Have you ever thought that this may mean in one accord. If Jesus is God, then explain Matt 3:17, is he referring to himself? What about John 1:14, John 14:28,1 Corinth 11:3 and of course John 3:16? So tell me if Jesus is God, then when Jesus was a baby, who was over the universe?
  • Phumulani on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
Paul is traing to show to us that Jesus is a true God. That why say in the book of Romans 10v9, that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord you will be save. My quetion is, should we contieun pray or call Jehova.
  • Fernando on Colossians 1:15 - 12 years ago
Jesus is God because He is One with His Father.
  • Jonathan White on Colossians 1:15 - 12 years ago
    I completely agree with Kelly!
  • Mike on Colossians 1:13 - 12 years ago
The scripture says that we are delivered from the power of darkness, not darkness itself. As one is able to overcome the power of gravity, yet are we not free from gravity itself. I believe this verse refers to the reign of sin and death ( romans 5:21) and the release from the power of sin ( romans 6:14).
  • Pearlie on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
Ijust love Paul I like how he tell you just what you have to do how he tell the people what he is doing for them and what they have to do.
  • Elder Vann on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
Verse 15 tells us he is the image of the invisible God verse 16 makes clear! What is meant by that, in that it says by (him) were all things created in heaven and Earth by him and for him weather they be thrones dominions or principalities. realize there is a throne in heaven if that dosn't tell us who he is then there's always Hebrews chapter 1 verse:8 Why argue against what it says in the Bible. There is!No scripture in the Bible that says that Jesus is seprate from God. while there are Many prophesies from Old Testament to New that says he is the same as God the who New Testament hope rest upon the Sonship of the Godhead if you understand what heir of all things mean!
  • Susan Dalton on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
I just want to praise the LORD, my Lord, who is LORD GOD of all things. He is the firstborn of every created thing. Who has more rights than He? He has created all things, and (for) He is before all things. He is the firstborn from the dead. He created all things, physical and spiritual. He is LORD of all. He is the first, He is the last; and He will stand in the end with the last. When He creates all things new, we will stand with Him in the new. Praise be to the name of God, the LORD Jesus Christ; my LORD, my Lord, my Savior, my Hope.

  • JANET on Colossians 1 - 12 years ago
I BELIVE THE WORD OF GOD. IT TEACHES THE BODY OF CHRIST TO PRAY ACCORDING TO HIS WORD FOR TOTAL DELIVERANCE.PRAY THAT WE MIGHT BE STRENTHEN. PRAY THAT WE MIGHT WALK WORTHY OF HIS CALLING. PRAY THAT WE MIGHT BE FILLED WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE. THAT'S WHAT THE BODY OF CHRIST IS LACKING TODAY,WE NEED THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST SO WE CAN LIVE A LIFE THAT'S PLEASING HIM. HOWEVER, THERE'S NOT A WHOLE OF PREACHERS THAT WILL DECLARE THE TRUE WORD OF GOD.

  • Jabez Clemen on Colossians 1 - 13 years ago
Some teachings tell us that Jesus is one of the creatures because of the phrase "firstborn of every creature" in verse 16. The Bible doesn't contradict itself. Let's look at the bigger picture. The succeeding verses and other accounts tell us that all things are made by him (vv.16, 17, John 1:1-3). Jesus is God. Therefore, He has neither beginning nor ending. He, himself, is the beginning and ending!
Praise be to Him! I'm not worshipping a creature, I'm worshipping the Creator!
    To God be the glory!
  • Properous1 on Colossians 1 - 13 years ago

As I read this and your comments, I am overwhelmed. I thought going on line would dimimish the reading of the physical bible but it appears to heighten my need to read his WORD.
  • Raina on Colossians 1:4 - 14 years ago
I prayed this chapter every morning for myself and friends and family. I heard Pastor Charles Stanley sermon on when you do not know what to do pray this. To ask for spiritual wisdom and knowledge, to place in your mind what was done for you through the death of our savoir Jesus Christ helps me doing those times that I do not know what to do for me and others. One question that I am not clear about is the prayer for unbelievers also?
  • Ogochukwu on Colossians 1 - 14 years ago
Colosians 1 verses 12, 13 & 14 makes my day any day. It gives me a picture of the completeness of what My Lord and Saviour did for me on the Cross. I am for ever grateful
