Wesley's Notes for Colossians 2:11

2:11 By whom also ye have been circumcised - Ye have received the spiritual blessings typified of old by circumcision. With a circumcision not performed with hands - By an inward, spiritual operation. In putting off, not a little skin, but the whole body of the sins of the flesh - All the sins of your evil nature. By the circumcision of Christ - By that spiritual circumcision which Christ works in your heart.

People's Bible Notes for Colossians 2:11

Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands. Are there those who say that you ought to be circumcised? In him is the true circumcision, not done by hands, not the cutting off of a little flesh, but the putting off of the entire body of the sins of the flesh.

To A disciple: I agree, it’s not the ideal way to communicate; what kills me is the limited space. I want to thank you for engaging in this discussion; it’s been a pleasure! It was not about winning an argument, but all about studying God’s word, and expressing ourselves freely. Thanks to you I had to read Ezekiel again, almost in its entirety. It was a good exercise... God bless you and keep you!

Daniel; I would like to finish up on this for now. The way I understand it the institution of offering a sacrifice was in its first meaning and so too in all its meaning under the First Testament; simply for bringing to remembrance, and for a token to symbolize the Anointed to come; and NEVER was it meant to be the actual intermediary as if to replace the True. So then it was a sign to teaching.
  • A disciple
Daniel; You know it really is a "less than" experience, trying to fellowship and talk about the things of the Lord, over the computer! I remember when I was in High School, and this Computer stuff was just getting started; and they were saying how it would be in the future: No one listened to me, when I said, This is a big mistake! But I guess we'll have to make do till they take that away too!

To A disciple: Excellent point; you say, “the way to the holiest was now opened to all through Jesus” our High Priest. Which means we do not need another intermediary or another sacrifice: The Ultimate Sacrifice has been offered. Jesus is our Intermediary to God. Now, if all sacrifices will cease (only) when Jesus comes and takes us home, how “FOREVER” are they? Death will eventually be destroyed.
