Hi Ronnette. What GiGi has shared is accurate. If, after Judas Iscariot suicided, another disciple also died or abandoned (the faith), then you would be correct that only ten would be remaining and Matthias would have become the eleventh & Paul the twelfth. But we're only told of Judas' absence (the other eleven still together), hence the vacancy to fill Judas' place. And the qualification for the new encumbent was that the person had to accompany the other disciples & be a witness to Jesus' resurrection ( Acts 1:21,22). Two were found worthy, but the lot fell on Matthias. Therefore, Matthias became Judas' replacement: the twelfth disciple.

    Hello David:

Praise and glory to God. 1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man do account of us, as of the ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

2 Timothy 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

    17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Let us grow in Charity and grace in One BODY OF CHRIST. Agape.

Can I respectfully ask why? I hope you are able to hear the sincerity in my reply. That is the reason that it's so important.

An example would be the current narrative surrounding the pandemic. There are many insightful physicians and scientists with differing perspectives. But those with perspectives that don't fit within the popular and allowed narrative, regardless of their peer reviewed research, are censored and worse. If we cannot have discourse about religion because the "other" disagrees with our views, we cannot grow.

Ronnette I absolutely agree with your reading of scripture, Jesus Christ came for the lost sheep of the house of Israel as stated in the gospels and the church epistles. The apostle paul was specifically called out to the gentiles because the judeans were still

working in the law although they were operating GODS GIFT OF GRACE. The APOSTLE PAUL WAS SPECIFICALLY GIVEN THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ONE BODY IN CHRIST Ephesians 3:1-9 also Colossians 1;25-29. Thats why Romans through thessalonians

is the complete knowledge of the operation of the church in the grace administration or age.

Hello wayne When it comes to Gods word as originally given is perfect therefore even numbers have meaning. The number five

biblically means or represents grace i.e. five gift ministires in the church, pentecost started the fifth administration in the scripture.

I encourage you to view E.W.Bullingers number in scripture, very inspiring.

Jim I invite you to first look at Peter 1:23 we are born again of incorruptable seed[spiritually] but our flesh is corrupt, so when we are walking by the spirit[the revealed word of God] we are all profitable but when we walk by the flesh the sences we walk

corruptly. we cannot lose our spirit which is God given, but you can turn away from the grace of God and decide or be tricked to walking by the flesh and become useless to GOD. iN 1jOHN ITS CALLED THE LUST OF THE FLESH AND THE PRIDE OF LIFE. So

basically what you sew is what you reap either of the flesh or of the spirit. Remember in the gospels Jesus christ said those who

really believe from the heart Romans 10;9=10 none will be lost why because we have been bought back. God is not an indian giver and He keeps his word. Keep something in mind its called gift of holy spirit so when understood correctly we operate it by our freedom of will because God is not a control freak that the other dude and he does it by manipulation. When someone says to me God made me its never the true God. Prayerfully this helps.

    Hi Brain,

Not sure why Matthew Henry chose to go there using 2 Cor. 4:6, when the angel was the one whose countenance was like lightning. Matthew Henry commented it is often mentioned in the New Testament, as the day which Christians religiously observed in solemn assemblies, to the honor of Christ. This can be debated there are as many mentioning they met on the Sabbath because they did not have bibles like we have today and the only way to hear the scriptures was in the temple or synagogues on the Sabbath. We also see in scriptures they met every day of the week Acts 2:46-47.

What is not talked about very much, Jesus rose on the day of the Feast of Firstfruits. That is the first day after the Sabbath after Passover which is the first day of the week. Jesus is the Firstfruits of those who slept, 1 Cor. 15:20. It is also the first day counting each day of the 7 Sabbaths that brings us to the second harvest we call Pentecost that means 50 that is 7 Sabbaths plus 1 day.

The Jewish day starts at sundown at ends at sundown so in Matthew 28:1 Mark 16:2 Luke 24:1 and John 20:1 when the sun went down on the Sabbath it was the first day of the week. The women headed to the tomb with the spices to anoint Jesus and the sun was just about to come up except for Mary Magdalene, she was the first to go and it was still dark, John 20:1 but it was the first day of the week.

Romans 14 should help, if you will study all four accounts of this day it will shine light on many things. As Jesus told the woman at the well John 4:24-25.

Someone said, we are not called to go to church we are called to be the church and that is every day.

    God bless,

    RLW

I do understand and I am not offended. I just don't think we can have a meaningful conversation about Scriptural matters if you do not believe it is accurate and God inspired.

Giannis, there is a segment of the Christian population that adheres to dispensationalism. I have been aware of this for a long time. You can look it up on the internet.

What Ronnette is espousing is called ultra-dispensationalism and is new to me. I researched it last night to find out more. I suggest that you do too in order to understand more of what believe. I do not support her views.

John 20 Sir just a few scripture on subject matter, Jesus christ stated I can do nothing without my father, also when casting

out devils or when he dealt with satan he was never called God but what have we to do with thee thou Son of the most high

God. also many times after healing people they said praising God for giving such power to men. Also other points only God knows when Christ will return and when the apostles ask for a seat in heaven jesus christ said it is not for me to give. Also when he

ask peter who do people say that I am peter said thou are the Christ the son of God then jesus christ said my father has shown you this. i don't argue this subject matter and not expecting and don't want a response. Just sharing scripture. Last but not least

in Luke 1:31-34 twice the announcment is Son of the Highest gabriel speaking.

Suze, I think Adam has done a good job of where in Scripture Jesus accepts worship.

I do not believe that any created being can "become" god. Jesus, the Son of God is the Creator of all, nothing was created that He did not create. He was not created. This is classic Christian doctrine. But I can see that you do not hold to this belief. I rspect that you do not want to discuss this further with me. So be it.

One Eighty Scripturally we are body soul and spirit if born again Thessalonians 4:23 notice spirit soul and body are used

spirit we are given when born again I.E. holy spirit, body of course flesh and blood soul is breath life when we take our first

breath we become a living soul. Scripturally when we a believer falls asleep body dust of the ground Gen 3:19 the spirit goes back

to who gave it God and when you take your last breath that is the end of soul life.

Brian I invite you to look at Collosians 2:16-23 the reason being Christ fulfilled the law and opened the age ofm Grace Pentecost

which is the day and time we live in. for us believers everyday is the sabbath, we are complete in Christ. The proof of this is

which day was the sabbath in the garden of eden. The answer is it did not exist until exodus when the law was given. remember

the sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath. Our walk now is the law of love, accomplished by walking in Christ

summed up in Mathew 22:37-40. Some things to consider.
  • David - In Reply - 1 year ago
The answer is he was heart in His heart because after everthing they witnessed Him doing they still didn't believe.
  • Adam - In Reply on John 20 - 1 year ago
Hi Suze, John 1:1 tells us that Jesus is God and other verses say He created all things.

    Verses of Jesus accepting worship:

    John 20:28

    Matthew 28:8-9

    Mark 16:1

    Matthew 2:11

    Matthew 21:9

    John 12:13

We are also to obey Jesus:

    John 8:31

    John 14:15

    John 14:21-24

    John 15:10-14

    1 John 2:3
  • David - In Reply - 1 year ago
Texsis The answer is in the context of the chapter, this happens to be one of my favorite reciords in Gods word and the reason

is because absolutely no one believed he would do it. when it says Jesus wept is because as many miracles as they say saw those

surrounding Him still did not believe and he was more hurt in Heart because what does it take for you all to believe and the proof

is in verses 40-42 ending in Father I know thou always hearest me.

    Hello Ronnette

About dispensation, I asked the question because I figured it's about some kind of specific belief among some christians. Is there a belief that is called "dispensationalism"?

Now about that "properly dividing the word of truth" that Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15

The very precise meaning of the greek word "orthotomisis" that has been translated in KJV as "properly dividing' is exactly that. BUT in greek it literally means "teaching the word of God property". It has another meaning than what it sounds. It has nothing to do with division. This is one of these words that when translated in other languages exactly as it is, it looses its actuall meaning. Probably its very initial meaning was to "divide between the right and false Word of God", so actually meaning to teach the proper Word of God.

Well, I made a research on internet to see how other English Bible versions translated this verse, and I randomly picked some and quote them below:

New International version "and who correctly handles the word of truth"

New living translation"and who correctly explains the word of truth"

American standard version "handling aright the word of truth"

Holeman Christians standard Bible "correctly teaching the word of truth"

As you can see none of them is referring to "division". I would say the last one is closer to the right meaning.

So since I think we could agree then that actually Paul says to Timothy to teach the right Word of God, can you please tell me now what in your opinion are those "more things" that Paul taught to gentiles, that do not apply to Jews?
  • Adam - In Reply on John 20 - 1 year ago
Hello, John chapter 1 explains and answers all these questions:

John 1:14-15 reveals that Jesus is called the "Word."

John 1:1 says "Word was with God, and the Word was God." this means that Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.

John 1:3 says "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." This means that all things were made by Jesus, and without Jesus nothing was made.

The common misunderstanding is that Jesus temporarily came to earth and while fully God, became fully man and appeared to allow Himself to be limited as a man. So, most people analyze His behavior as a temporary man and draw assumptions from it: like how can He pray to Himself? etc.

John 1:9-10 - talks about Jesus, also called the "Light" coming to earth.

Philippians 2:6-7 - to me this means that Jesus wasn't concerned about His power being lessor or limited as a temporary man.

Luke 2:52 - Jesus put Himself in a position of a man to grow in wisdom and maturity.

So, all of your quotes are while Jesus was in a temporary limited state as a man on earth.

You wrote: "Inconceivable if he is God the Creator." It's not inconceivable because the Bible literally says Jesus created everything in John 1:3.

If this isn't convincing enough there are more verses saying the same thing:

    Colossians 1:15-17

    Hebrews 1:2

    1 Corinthians 8:6

    Jesus literally created you!

    Thank you for your input.

To be saved by grace would mean God decides our salvation, not us.

For we can't save ourselves but we must try believing grace will abound.

And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: ( Revelation 2:26)

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ( James 4:7)

To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, ( Revelation 2:7)

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. ( James 1:12)

The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us ( 1 Peter 3:19-21)

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. ( Galatians 6:2)

Ephesians 2:8-10 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Hi Brian , I don't read commentaries , when you first start reading the Bible , I think it's best to just read it yourself , several times and then once you feel that you have some understanding maybe that would be a good time to read a commentary , so that it adds to your understanding , for me , you have to have some understanding before looking into other people's ideas and beliefs , that's just my thoughts . Everything you need to know is in there , as long as you are patient and persistent you will be able to put the pieces together for yourself I'm sure . For me , a commentary is an aide to enhance your understanding , hopefully smiley face , at worst it could just confuse you . God meant His Word to be understood , ask Him to help you , keep your heart and mind open and you will be fine .

GiGi I truly did not mean to offend. I was raised on the campus of a fundamentalist Christian university and believed exactly everything that I was told. I taught it to my children as well. During a particularly dark season of my life, I began to question my faith. Those questions led to deep dives that eventually led me to appreciate the religion of my childhood. But to ultimately recognize that I could no longer believe what I was taught. The work of Delores Cannon, Neville Goddard, Eckhart Tolle and many others resonated too much to be ignored. I think it's very important that all faiths encourage spending much time in quiet stillness, nature and meditation. Going within. That's why Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is within. But I greatly respect others beliefs. I hope that we can have deep, honest and respectful discourse because so much depends on it right now. On almost every subject. Thank you for your reply. And I hope you understand.

    Hello Texsis,

I think he wept because he was feeling empathy for Lazarus' sisters, Mary and Martha, and others gathered to mourn Lazarus' death. Hebrews 4:15 says that Jesus is our High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses, having experienced suffering on our behalf. Jesus, being God as well as human, understood the sorrow of these people deeply and perfectly, better than anyone ever could.

    Theresa,

You completely missed my point. Sunday worship was already being practiced by Christians for 3 centuries before Constantine codified it, meaning sanctioned by the Roman government with protections for those who observed it.
