Would like to add that the actions of the two in this scripture was about being deceptive by conspiring. Conspiring is when people secretly make joint plans to do something different than what is expected. In this case they conspired against the Holy Spirit which is in the church. I can only wonder the various things that could have motivated or prompted them to conspire, plot and scheme against "the Lord and His anointed." This is a good example of what a believer shouldn't do, however if a believer by chance discovers that they are in error, then God is available to forgive only for the asking or grant mercy according to His will.
"And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet." Acts 5:2 KJV
A believer should not allow anyone even their own spouse to cause them to miss out or sin against God, as the scripture reads further both received the same judgment, although they conspired together, the husband was judged then the wife was asked whether their dealings with the Apostles were true and being judged separately received the same judgment as her husband. Each one had an opportunity to be honest and they valued their relationship above their love for God. The same God who created them both and allowed them to have a spousal relationship in the first place (not that only God provided for them to have the field in their possession). They put their trust in their relationship, by obeying each other and not obeying God. A believer should God obey first in all things, whether married or unmarried and this scripture is an example of that and how careful a believer has to be in their human interactions with others. Not just husband and wife, which is the highest human form of a human relationship, all human relationships, whether Mother/Father, Siblings, neighbors, employers, friends, family relations, any human relationship that a believer has, God should always be honored and obeyed first. A believer shouldn't choose a path or make a decision that is contrary to God's way.
If only they had the courage to say they did not want to participate or only wanted to contribute a certain amount. I see a lot in the bible about the human condition of failure to communicate. In this case, failure to communicate perhaps could have been based on pride ("the pride of life'). Perhaps, they sincerely wanted to give, however, both seemingly wanted to control the situation by privately agreeing to do something separately from what was agreed upon. We also notice in the scripture that nothing is private, God knows all things.
"Does the bible support a women Pastor or Bishop. I know already that the bible supports women in ministering the word, just to clarify."
Based on the qualifications of a Bishop, I do not believe the bible supports a woman Bishop based on qualifications ("This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work." 1 Timothy 3:1 KJV), however a Pastor may not necessarily be a Bishop and therefore a woman can be a Pastor or called to be a Pastor, I believe. In this scripture when the bible states a man desiring the office, I believe it is for a male to be a Bishop and not a female, since the qualifications entail having a wife and a man exhibiting leadership over his family and household.
A women and wife can be two different categories, although a wife is a woman, a unmarried woman is not a wife and is not subject to any man, only to God. The bible indicates if a married woman wants to do anything that she should ask her husband, husbands and wives should be on one accord in righteouness.
Philadelphia is written in "The Book of the Revelations of Jahshua the Messiah".
Rev 3:7
And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.9Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.10Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.11Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God,which isnew Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: andI will write upon himmy new name.13He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
The city of Philadelphia was in Asia Minor and controlled by Rome, it is today in Turkey a town called Ataehir the "city of Allah.". You can find what Jesus said to them in the letter sent to them in Rev.3:7-13. This city was almost destroyed in an earthquake in early AD. It was also a stronghold for Christianity when the Moslems overran Asia Minor it was one of the last to fall.
Yes, was Jesus crying out; Psalms 22:1, "My GOD my GOD, why hath thou foresaken me"._..._, repeating the words of David, who was also prophecying of Jesus in that very moment? I agree with Luke. Psalms 22:1,7,8,13,14,15,16,17,18,22,23,24,25,27,30,31
Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? - Jesus said these words
Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? - Jesus said these words
v. 31 a very clear statement revealing that God has already forgiven Israel (as Jesus requested on the cross) and is giving them a second chance at the literal Kingdom of Heaven. "The Kingdom of the Lord in the hands of the sons of David" (see 2. Chronicles 13:8). All that has to happen is Repentance, confession that God is right and they were wrong, and the leaders have to accept Christ as Lord, Savior, and Messiah. Of course this didn't happen in the book of Acts (see Acts 7.) on a national scale so the literal kingdom has been postponed for over 2000 years now. Now you have an opportunity to be born again into The Spiritual Kingdom of God, by a spiritual new birth ( John 1:12., 3.; 1.Corinthians 12:13, Colossians 2., etc).
God will restore the Literal throne of David to Israel at his second coming; and as Joseph revealed himself to his brethren; so will Jesus reveal himself to the children of Israel, the literal Jews. Even so, come Lord Jesus!
Hello Darlene. The "Trinity" is a big subject, but I'll give the basics for understanding it, even though it's full meaning remains beyond our limited minds. The word itself is nowhere found in the Bible; it is however used to describe God's Nature in the best way we can. "Trinity", or in another way, 'a state of being threefold' best expresses what God has revealed to us of Himself. You will also hear of: Godhead or Triunity - these also mean the same thing.
We believe that there is only One God: Isaiah 44:6, "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his (Jacob's) redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God." Those who believe in the Trinity, do not believe in three gods - only One. However, throughout the Scriptures, especially in the New Testament, God reveals His Nature to us more fully. Just as we have immaterial parts within us (i.e. spirit & soul), so God is revealed to us by His Spirit & His Word. Zechariah 4:6 shows us both of these: ("Then he (the angel) answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the WORD of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my SPIRIT, saith the LORD of hosts).
Even as God is One God, in the unity of the Godhead there are three eternal, coequal entities (also referred to as Persons) Who are same in substance but distinct in subsistence. Both God's Word & Spirit have always reached out & ministered to people, whether through the mouths of the prophets or by special dealing with God's people. But that Word that was once spoken by the prophets to Israel, is now given to all of us through Jesus ( Hebrews 1:1-3). So the Spirit we know, but Who is Jesus? John 1:1-14 tells us that the Word that was that very part or substance of God, God has sent to Earth clothed in humanity, for "the suffering of death" - God came to us in the flesh, by His Word, for the salvation of sinners. See also Matthew 28:19 & 2 Corinthians 13:14 for expressions of the Triune God.
Hello Mary. It can be understood that Ananias & Sapphira were indwelt by the Holy Spirit & was a part of the new Church in Jerusalem. However, they allowed Satan 'to fill their hearts & lie to the Holy Ghost', therefore paying the awful price for that deception. Discipline by the Lord was very direct in those days as the new Church was forming & developing under the guidance & teaching of the apostles. The Lord still disciplines the Church today as a whole & individuals, whenever we force our way against His Will or live lives that are dishonouring to Him; but I've not seen such a heavy discipline today as we see performed in the Bible & even if that happened, it may not be as swift & public as it was then.
I think of scriptures relative: 1 Samuel 10:6 , 1 Samuel 16:14 , To get to know more about Saul's beginning & calling from the LORD please read 1 Samuel 9-10 , (chapters 9 & 10)
It is what it says it is. You forsake God, He will forsake you. 2 Chronicles 15: 1-3 KJV And the Spirit of God cameupon Azariah the son of Oded: (2). And he went out to meet Asa and said unto him. Hear ye me, Asa, and Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
NEW Testament
Romans 1: 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful; 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do them.
The Lord bless you Steven. Yes, we're enjoying our time away & hope to be back with you all at the month's end. I have been keeping up with the other's comments as I'm able to.
The Acts 5 reference is not necessarily applied by the commentator but a random Scripture from this site.
I agree with what you've written. My problem is my niggling conscience that stops me lending any support or affirmation to a party or individual that holds to unbiblical values, indeed to anti Christ teaching. One could then say, 'who could one then vote for or support?' So it boils down to the dictates of the conscience & so one shouldn't feel guilty for not aligning with a particular party or personality as each of us is answerable to God for our decisions or judgements.
Reply to Dave --- Acts 5:33 Decisions to vote for any aspirant to any political position should not be based on only one issue-(abortion). It should be based on his comprehensive plans/propositions, the individual past record, openness and readiness to embrace the community but not divisive. However note that your question is not relevant to Acts Chapter 5 bible study.
Thank you Mark. I suppose Jesus' Wrists were pierced & nailed to the tree, as nails in the palm of the hand would just tear through the flesh because of the weight of the body. Then reading John 20:25-27, would mean His Wrists, rather than hands.
Chris, the bible does say he was nailed to the stake or tree at mark 15:25 and also at matthew 27:35.he would have had his arms straight above him and nails through his wrists.
That's very interesting, Mark. Are you suggesting that Jesus hung on a tree (i.e. nailed to its trunk) & not with arms widespread, as it would be on a T shaped structure? If so, how should we account for the nails pierced into his hands/wrists?
If you research the origin of the cross it goes back to the Babylonians and didn't enter into Christian religion until the 4th century. some bible writers used the Greek word Xy'lon which means "timber" stick, club, or tree. see also acts 10:39, acts 13:29, Galations 3:13 and 1 peter 2:24. It was under the pagan ruler Constantine that promoted the cross as a symbol of Christianity. see also Exodus 20:4,5
Comments about the trinity the Godhead remember in the ARK of the Covenent in the MOST HOLY PLACE was the Father between the 2 Churibim of GLORY thus we see 3 and God wd not share his Glory with the 2 Churibim if they were not God . Son and GRANSON the candle stick was made like a vine with branches impling multiplication a posterity, the nation of ISRAEL. SYMBOLIC OF AN ISRAEL OF GOD. Abraham dwelt in tents with Issac and Jacob son and granson and thats what Abraham means exaulted FATHER thats y God told Moses that his name was Abraham Issac, and Jacob. And my memorial to ALL generations . We see this Trinity scenario ALL thru the bible ,Even the Davidic kingdom was a Trinity Jesse david and solomon Father Son and Granson And JESUS says he was the root and the offspring of DAVID He was comparing his kingdom to Davids kingdom as the scriptures says the House of DAVID will be as the House of God. When God told Moses that his name was abraham issac and Jacob it was prophetic that there is gonna be an Israel of GOD, the multiplication of very God in humanity via this father son and Granson scenario. Its God himself that wants a POSTERITY Jesus was just his 1st born of many brethren . And the FATHER instructs ALL the ANGELS TO WORSHIP HIS Son simply b/c he was an absolute Son, God the SON. The 12 tribes knew that Abraham Issac and Jacob were the 1 singular FATHER of ISRAEL Rememeber they were 3 distinct beings. Without this Abrahamic Trinity there cd not have have been the nation of Israel remember that. Thats y God told Moses that his name was Abraham Issac n Jacob. Thus there is a heavenly trinity that is gonna result in an Israel of God, I will multiply thy seed as the stars of heaven thus an Israel of God,That which is born of the spirit is Spirit thats the H.G. th Israel of God the multiplcation of very GOD IN US. That was when God swore by his self thus it cannot be refuted neva. Solomon th wisest man in the O.T. said a 3 ply CORD is not easily broken TRUTH.
