Matthew 28:19 is true but we must read the words "IN THE NAME OF". That name is Jesus.

Just like Acts 2:38 speaks on. Amen

The Jewish Sabbath has always been Saturday. It was given solely to the nation of ancient Israel. There is no such thing as a Christian Sabbath day. Nowhere in the New Testament (or Covenant) are Christians ever commanded to keep the sabbath. From Romans to Revelation, no such command is ever given to the Church. In fact, the Christians were commanded to not judge anyone concerning a sabbath day.

Romans 14:5 "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind."

Galatians 4:10-11 "Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain."

Colossians 2:16 "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:"

Hello, it's always been Saturday and hasn't changed. Some confuse Sabbath with a day to gather and worship.
  • Suzy McCawley on Acts 2 - 1 year ago
Amen! I am happy and blessed because of Jesus Christ our Savior. Can someone please tell me the scripture where the Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday?

I love Acts Chapter 2. It is an excellent reminder of the power of the Holy Spirit. Also, I just realized one can print out these verses (or save to pdf). Thank you for this feature.

    Matthew 28:19-29

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
  • Brad Price on Acts 2 - 1 year ago
Such a beautiful chapter the birth of the Church! If people could only go back to here instead of 325 a.d. and see that Jesus name baptism is the only way! Nowhere in the Bible we're people ever baptized in the titles Father Son and Holy Ghost!

As I read the scripture about the blood moon I see that it is for Jesus' time not the present day here in year 2022 if you can't understand that then I would take a course in English so that you can verify what you are reading. However let's wait to see if anything significant happens as a result of this blood moon.may 15th 2022

Of course they were. Is there anything that suggests they weren't.
  • First Pentecost - In Reply on Acts 2 - 1 year ago
Yes. I think Mary Magdalene, Jesus's mother, Mary and Martha maybe.

There's a new movie out now on the End Times. It's one hour, goes real fast from Genesis to the Millennium. On YouTube, search BLESSON END OF DAYS.

It shows everyone in the Upper Room on The First Pentecost. There are women in the scene.

Also, the Bible says the people in the Upper Room spilled out in the street.

I am curious, did the ladies in the room get filled with the Holy Spirit?

'"not attempting to gain converts to "my" church ect but merely pointing out what is within the pages of the same bibles we all own kjv in my case most bibles read the same only in the amplified version does acts 2;38 read and be baptized everyone of you "because of the forgiveness of your sins" in that version its too easy see it takes away the reason for baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and turns it ito not as a requirement to the obedient but turns it into an afterrhought, an addition to the forgiveness we have already recieved some other way, i would assume the sinners prayer, something else the sincere, the honest, those humbly seeking the Lords will, will admit is not found in the Bible either. i love believers, and want all of us to believe the same thing ,thats the bible, when we can see the bible, really see it, it becomes an adventure, no longer to we have to skip over gobs and gobs of scripture because somwhere someone very sharp at talking convinced us its "history" there actually is: you ready? ONLY ONE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IN THE BIBLE. if i were allowed yes i would put my phone number here, not to find people to argue with but to teach, i love to teach and i know there are many many wise and prayerful believers out there GOD bless you for this bible site

it always amazes me how, a vast majority of people who claim to have faith in Jesus but are scared to death to interpret the bible in the way its actualy written, oh they do understand the written english language but choose to make the bible echo their own preconcieved ideas . for instance why in the above commentary 37-41 the commentater states that people were baptized to openly avow their belief in Jesus, but it reads; Repent and be baptized evertone of you, in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of Sins, not to openly show our belief in Jesus, but as a direct means of having our sins forgiven, this is to point out how it actual reads and what it means acts;2;38 that this is what it means the apostle paul, who wrote 13 of our new testament books openly shows us in his own words in acts 22;16 and now, why tarriests thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. we all have a free will and can choose to live by the dogmas and teachings of any particular church we may attend, but in a public forum, if we comment on the bible it must be done openly and honestly, while leaving our own attitudes and what we wish the bible actualy said out of it. who among us wants to go to heaven? a repented person wants to obey the word of God without adding to it or taking away from it by trying to change its meaning ,God is not astone standing by saying oh yes he words it much better than i ever could, here is TRUTH. you know why this happens? because most christians dont even realize they are not christians at all, when did Jesus or any of his Apostles ever tell anyone to accept him as their personal savior? its a basic question of is that in the bible or not? we are on a bible site now, try finding that version of the Gospel. Its all over the bible not just like in 13 conversions in the book of acts but Romsns 6 colossions 2 galatians 3 me? i want to go to heaven, Gods way, because how will we talk our way out of it before him ?

The Greek word for "foe" is "echtros" which means hating, opposing, enemy, or adversary.
  • Commentary on What FOES mean - In Reply on Acts 2 - 2 years ago
This is part of a commentary on Acts 2:35. You can read the whole thing on BibleRefDOTcom (type a period where I typed DOT)

You might read Matthew 10:36 also

It is true that David had many military battles and attributed his victories to God (see Psalm 18), but the enemies referred to in Psalm 110:1, quoted here in Acts 2:35, are Jesus' enemies (FOES) including the Antichrist, Satan, sin, and the ultimate enemy, which is death ( 1 Corinthians 15:26). The suggestion that Jesus waits for God to defeat His enemies is an interesting one. The author of Hebrews reaffirms it in Hebrews 10:12-13. In Philippians 2:1-9, Paul explains that Jesus voluntarily submitted Himself to God and took on the role of a servant. In return, God has exalted Jesus' name so that "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" ( Philippians 2:10-11).

"Footstool" is from the Greek root word hypopodion. This is like calling something an "underfoot" in English. In common practice, it means a stool or resting place for one's feet. As a metaphor, it refers to the tradition of military leaders to place their feet on the necks of those they had conquered. Jesus' enemies will be completely vulnerable and in complete subjection to Him. We don't know when, but we do know at least one thing: God will do it, not us ( John 18:36).

Thanks GiGi. Those were great suggestions which I hadn't thought of. Indeed, putting pen to paper is a great way to help seal that information in the brain.

    Hi Chris,

I am sure there are many more ideas out there concerning helps to Scripture memorization. One thing I forgot to add that I know is also effective is for a person to practice writing the verse out by hand. I suggest writing it out each day for a week and then try to write it from memory, checking it with what was written before and making any changes and/or additions until it is complete, the next day repeat this process until you can write it correctly from memory.

If the verse is lengthy or a person is memorizing a paragraph or section, I suggest learning it piece by piece, dividing it up into logical phrase breaks, and follow the writing tasks above. When a section is learned, then begin writing the the previously learned section and add a new phrase. Writing is a very good brain activity because it is kinesthetic, more so than typing. As a person writes, they naturally recheck the word or several words to be sure they are correct. I suggest using a spiral notebook for this so that the journey of writing a verse from memory can be reviewed, and the person can discover any words that they seem to be get stuck on consistently.

I'd love to hear any other ideas that people may have.

Thanks for that explanation, GiGi, though wasn't expected. Just my mind initially went to 'swinging' as in an aerobics class or some dance routine - I smiled when you actually were referring to a swing. And I suppose that is why both Jews & Muslims rock back & forth when sitting or standing reading their Scriptures. I know in Islam, the way the Arabic verses in the Quran are written, the reading of them is helped by moving the body in harmony to help their appreciation & understanding.

    Hello Chris,

I mentioned the rocking chair, swing, and walking, not in an occultic way, as those who practice the occult do use repetitive movements with chanting to induce trancelike states of mind, but because the gentle movement and cadence is soothing and calms a person down and helps a person concentrate on the task of meditating and using God's Word. And just like these activities are repetitive, repeating a verse of Scripture for memorization is, too. It has to do a bit with brain science where you engage more brain pathways this way than simply reading and aids the learning process. It is helpful for some people, and for others, perhaps more distracting.
  • Chris - In Reply on Acts 2 - 2 years ago
Some excellent suggestions there, teacher GiGi, for Scripture memorization. Though your mention of practising memorization in cadence with the rocking motion of a rocker, had me bemused & a little concerned. Am I, are we, already having a rocking chair in view for these remaining days on Earth, I wondered? Your suggestion of "if you like swinging" caught my attention, until you suggested 'a swing'. But yet, all very helpful to those seeking such help.

Hello Chris and those on this thread. I, too, have not memorized large chunks of Scripture, but have read through the Bible many times. The Holy Spirit is faithful to bring to us to remembrance of a Scripture heard or read at appropriate times. We are blessed to have Bible in hand or online in our own language and concordances, likewise to help us finding the verse brought to mind and read it in context.

that said, I have committed to memory verses that are of special meaning to me or a number of verses on a specific theme. I often do as you do, read and re-read (rote learning is effective) I also think that having the verse read out loud . to me is also an aid to memorization, along with trying to put the verse into a simple song. having something tangible to remind you of the verse can help, if there is something tangible to use, like a rock to remember that Jesus is the rock that followed the Israelites in the wilderness, for example. Having a buddy to memorize the same verse and making time to practice reciting to each other can help. using the time on a walk is a good time to practice a verse saying it in the cadence of your walking step, or if you like swinging, say it as you go back and forth on a swing or in a rocker. These are all things that help me, and as a teacher of young children, I know that such methods work well for memorization tasks. The most important thing is that we be doers of the word and not just readers. Scripture is written that we may have eternal life in Christ and as a guide to apply to our daily life so we can live a godly life in a wicked, fallen world, as a light in the darkness, among other reasons.

You can not be rebaptized in Jesus name twice the thing is you need to stop sining stop playing with God turn from your evil ways God will not be mocked. The only way to be rebaptized twice is if you where baptized in the titles that is not the true baptism its not valid Acts 4:12 only in the name of JESUS is there salvation. We don't serve a God of confusion, its plain and simple it is written, this world wants to have the last word their opinion, philosophy, theory which causes confusion, let God be true and every man a liar.

Thank you Tim. But I don't believe that "everything closed at the end of the apostolic age", only the position of apostles (defined by certain criteria) & the presentation of prophecy. Or else, one would have to disregard Revelation 22:18,19, "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."

And let's face it, the Revelation is generally acknowledged as the final set of prophecies for the close of this age & ushering in of the new. I'm unsure which 'prophet', since John's prophetical vision, can add to that Book - some of course have tried, whether prophesying events, dates, etc., & all have proved false. At most, self-acclaimed prophets can make a hit-and-miss forecast, a little like clairvoyants of today. A prophecy from God must be true in every respect, or else it's false. If a brother brings forth a prophecy that is already declared in God's Word, it's not prophetical, but instructional, whether as a warning or an exhortation. We must not convert prophetical utterances found in the Scriptures to mean something else today - this is false & misleading.
  • Tim - In Reply on Acts 2 - 2 years ago
Cessationism is a false doctrine, please read Matthew 13:31-32 Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven

To Say everything closed at the end of the apostolic age would mean that salvation is also closed

Your statement has is not in harmony

Number 23:19 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
