    open question; I'm looking for an answer to this contradiction;
John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
is Peter reducing the LORD Jesus to mere man, equal to himself?

This is when the Holy Spirit speaks we should listen and act on it as directed by the Holy Spirit. This vision that both Cornelius and Peter had came from God, 1st Peter was directed to kill, clean and consumed things that was unclean and not usually eaten by the Jews. But in his trance God let him know all things given by God is not common. T

Notice they received the Holy Spirit before water baptism in verse 44. Romans 8:26 is not speaking of speaking in tongues because it says " but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which CANNOT BE UTTERED. The Church Age saint does not have to keep himself saved because God does that Eph 1:13, 4:30, 1 Corinthians 1:8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. If baptism is a "Command, " how are unsaved children obeying a command? An unborn child can 't obey the Fathers commands until he has been born. John 3:5 flesh is water birth. We say, her water broke. Mark 16:16 is still the gospel of the kingdom not the gospel of the grace of God. Can you drink poison and handle snakes? Acts 2:38 is to Jews see verse 5,14,22,etc. They say what must WE do? Not what must I do to be saved? Acts 16:31. Acts 22:16 says calling on the name of the Lord. Matthew 28:19 says nothing about water baptism saving anyone. The apostle never got baptized according to Acts 2:38 and all are in heaven now. It was a Jewish faith Rom 1:16 that involved signs 1Cor 1:22, 14:22. Acts transitions from Jew to Gentile, from Law to Grace. Your gospel for today is 1 Cor 15:1-4. Trust the shed blood of Jesus Christ and go to heaven. Water only gets you wet in this dispensation.

Acts 10 demonstrates the acceptance of gentiles into the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit fell upon the gentiles signifying to Peter that acceptance, but that ability to speak in tongues is different than receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2: 38. It is for everyone to help us in our daily lives as evidenced in Romans 8. If not for the Holy Spirit offering up prayers to God in our behalf to help keep us in the saved state. That is why baptism is so important because it is there where we receive the gift predicated upon the fact we acquiesce to God 's command as stated in John 3: 5, Mark 16: 16, Acts 2: 38, Acts 22: 16 and Matthew 28: 19, 20. Faith only doesn 't work, because faith has to be accompanied by following commands by Jesus. Finally, Romans 6 clearly shows why baptism is demanded because it is there we receive the regeneration by water burial in a token death, burial and resurrection satisfying God 's plan for salvation. Anything short of that is merely cut and paste salvation.

Peter have doubt but when Jesus revealed his message he trusted God. In life we shouldnt doubt Jesus as our Lord the bible and his church are for us to believe. Thanks to Jesus for providing us his favor in any of our situations he knows what to provide and when to provide. God is awesome and loving Father. Amen

Insight 's blind sight Matt 15:14 is contrary to Scripture in light of Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. He is the Lord at birth. That would qualify Him of having the Holy Ghost 1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I wondered why the Spirit fell before baptism in this case. I like the thought that Peter needed to see it to confirm that these had been recieved into the fold of Christ. It seems that Jesus had the fullness of the Spirit before baptism, otherwise how could he compete in discussions with the temple leaders at age 12. Some things He did, He did for examples for us, like baptism. The Spirit decended upon Him to signify the start to His public ministry. We get bptised to rid ourselves of the old nature Rom 6 '6 but Jesus didnt have yhe old nature.

through this chapter, I got puzzled when reading verses, 3 to 7 verse 28 and verse 30, specially verse 28 where Peter said . . . "God had showed me . . . I wonder whether it was just a vision of an angel or God Himself that Peter saw! in other words, I 'd like to ask, "Has man ever seen God? "
  • Insight 777 on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Verses 37 38, John received the Holy Ghost in the womb before birth. Jesus did not have the Holy Ghost until after John baptized him! To fulfill his purpose, Jesus needed to be baptized he insisted upon it.

The new birth is essential in order to enter the kingdom of God according to John 3:3-5 . Both water and Spirit are necessary. Some people claim that Cornelius and his household were saved or born again once they received the Holy Ghost. The truth of the matter is they didn 't have the complete new birth without the water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus allowed Cornelius and his household to receive the Holy Ghost even before they were baptized in order to assure Peter that God had accepted the Gentiles to become members of the church of Jesus Christ. Peter understood that he could not withstand God because the Lord had allowed the Gentiles to receive the Holy Ghost. Now Peter knew that Cornelius and his household had to submit to being baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. They could not forbid water and be born again. The Lord had already assured Peter through a vision that God had accepted the Gentiles. When the Gentiles received the Holy Ghost this was double assurance that both Jews and Gentiles would be part of the church. Notice the words of Peter. "Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ what was I, that I could withstand God? " Ats 11:17 .

Acts 2:1-6 is a preparation for the last days, and the things that will follow are found throughout the O.T. in many passages. The Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord are the subject matter of nearly two thirds of the O.T. Peter did not say THESE THINGS are the fulfillment of what Joel said, and that is whe he would have had to say if he were referring to the cloven tongues, the rushing wind, and the spoken languages as the fulfillment of Joel 2. As a matter of fact, the other tongues are a fulfillment of Isa 28:11-12 not Joel. Israel, here, is being given a second chance to get right after Christ 's prayer in Luke 23:34 . We are dealing with a renewed offer of the Kingdom and it is valid until the final rejection in Acts 7. All those things of Joel were postponed until the Church Age is over. The Spirit hasn 't yet been poured out on all flesh and those signs in the Sun and Moon are yet to take place. You are preaching another gospel in Acts 2 for today.

Jacob the thief died on the cross before the death of Jesus meaning that the Holy Ghost was not yet given until Jesus died and was ascended back to heaven. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also. John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you but if I depart, I will send him unto you. John14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

  • Jacob on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Heb 9:17 shows the New Testament started at the death of the Lord Jesus. That means that the thief died in the new testament without water baptism and without works. See John 19:33 to see Christ died first for no one dies in His presence. Now, Acts 2:38 will save no one today. It is the gospel of the Kingdom that John the Baptist was preaching. The mystery of the Church that was revealed to Paul was not known yet. Those in Acts 19 were not even saved. They hadn 't even heard of the Holy Ghost. They had the baptism of repentance. Remember remission of sins is not the same as redemption. Acts is a transitional book from the law to grace. Acts 2:38 will not get you saved today. Eph 2:38 will not match this chapter which is for the Jews. John 3 doesn 't mention the word baptism and the water birth is the FLESH birth and the Spirit birth is being born AGAIN. Baptism doesn 't always mean water and water doesn 't always mean water see Matt 20:23 for example.

hebrews 9chap 16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. acts2:38..water and spirit... acts 19:5..john 's disciples, were re-baptised, in Jesus ' name and then received the holy ghost... acts 8:6 ...ethiopian received ..water and spirit.... acts 10:48 ...italian received ..water and spirit...and spoke in tongues. while the bridegroom was with them....mark2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins. hince, situations like the thief on the cross. but , Mark 2:20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them. The Bible speaks to three different people, the Jew, the Christian and the Gentile. There are divisions of dispensations that many people who read the Bible can not understand which rightly divide the word. Acts is a transitional book, Acts 2 has nothing to do with Christians. It was a Jewish feast for jews and only happened one time in history. Paul tells us in 1Cor.15:1-4 how we as Gentiles are to be saved. It has NOTHING to do with water. Those that teach otherwise are false according to God 's word.
  • Jacob on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
John the Baptist was filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother 's womb Luke 1:15. No tongues.Jesus had the Holy Ghost without measure Jn 3:34 and didn 't speak in tongues. Jesus never spoke in tongues although He knows all things Jn 21:17. The apostles had John 's baptism and were never baptized according to Acts 2:38 and straight to Heaven they went. Jesus didn 't baptize Jn 4:2. Thats strange if water baptism saves. Are all apostles? No. are all prophets? No. are all teachers? No. are all workers of miracles? No. Have all the gifts of healing? No. do all speak with tongues? No. Covet the best gifts. Charity is the best gift. This modern generation is so concerned with gifts and not the fruit of the Spirit. Children are concerned with gifts and their own edification 1 Cor 3:1-3. Give one reference where tongues are commanded.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Part 2 of 2 God has not changed. He is still pouring out his spirit upon all flesh. When God does not fill the people then they start making up all kind of stories to excuse why they did not get it. However, the simple truth is that they have not truly repented in their heart. One thing God cannot do and that is lie. His word is the truth. Therefore, when Peter stated on the day of Pentecost that the promise is for everyone, Acts 2 39 God still honors that today.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Part 1 of 2 The reason why some people are not being filled with the Holy Ghost is because they truly have not let go of the world in their heart. God looks at the heart of everyone. Repentance is a godly sorrow that will affect emotions, 2 Corinthians 7 9 and 10. When God looks at the heart and sees that a person is truly repented then there is a circumcision of the heart pricked in the heart this prompts a true repentance of emotion, Romans 2 29, Colossians 2 11, Acts 2 37.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Hello Robert and James The Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the spirit of God gives utterance is not just for the Jews. It is for everyone, Acts 2 39. There is another example of the first Gentile to receive this gift, that is Cornelius and his household Acts Chapter 10. Even though people may choose not to believe it, it still does not negate the fact that a person has to follow Acts 2 38 for salvation this is fact according to the word of God.
  • Robert on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
James you are right on. Verses 45 and 46 coinside with 1Cor.1 22 and 1 Cor.14 22 that tongues are a SIGN to the Jews. There are four ways that people are saved in Acts and this is one of them. Remember Acts is a transitional book, from the gospels to the church age. Also no one after Acts 2 38 gets the Holy Spirit when he is baptized in water. We receive the Holy Spirit our salvation by FAITH.
  • Dewey on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Hello Mary, I absolutely concur with you. Though my Catholics friends and some others will definitely disagree there is no biblical evidence that suggests Peter was a Pope at anytime or anywhere. This chapter 10 tells us exactly how peter felt about the Gentiles even though God reproved him for his spiritual bias, it is very unlikely that he would have ended up in Rome as the first Pope. Blessings!
  • MARY on Acts 10:26 - 9 years ago
goes to show you Rome is wrong about peter being the first pope..there is a fine line between a lie and the truth...and they polished it..presented it...as truth to a gullible people...but only to those that dont read the scriptures..
  • Tusasirwe on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Greetings to you all. Acts Chapter 10 is all interesting. However, I will only pick the fact that these Gentiles received the baptism of the Holy Ghost Holy Spirit before they were baptized with water. Hehehehe...Water Baptism, the baptism of John, is for repentance from sin and dead works. But notice here in Acts 10 that these men repented without necessarily having been water baptized. If their repentance had not been effective, they would not have received the Holy Ghost. I love to read that Peter commanded they be baptized it is not Peter who Baptized them but his deputies. Now, I am not saying water Baptism is not important but definately not a prerequisite for baptism with the Holy Ghost. Repentance is the prerequisite for Baptism with the Holy Ghost.
  • James on Acts 10 - 9 years ago
Every person in Acts 2 is a Mosaic law observing Old Testament Jew. In fact, they are all gathered together to observe a JEWISH FEAST called Pentecost verse 1 . A fair reading of the whole chapter especially verses 4, 14, and 36 will clearly reveal that no Gentiles non Jews are present. Since this involves Jews, it involves a NATION verse 36!! , not individuals. No one asked, "What must I do to be saved? " The question asked concerned the NATION of Israel "Men and brethren, what shall we do? " verse 37 Not, "What shall I do, " but rather, "What shall WE do? " Acts 2 presents a NATION of people who come to realize that they have murdered their blessed Messiah and they 're asking what THEY must do. It 's a question concerning NATIONAL salvation. Isaiah 66 8 says, ". . . shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. " The "nation " is Israel! Romans 11 26 says, "And so all Israel shall be saved as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. " Acts 2 38 is dealing with NATIONAL salvation. The Messianic Kingdom is still available to the Jews until Acts 7 60 when they kill Stephen , so national salvation remains an issue until then.
