Wesley's Notes for Acts 8:27

8:27 An eunuch - Chief officers were anciently called eunuchs, though not always literally such; because such used to be chief ministers in the eastern courts. Candace, queen of the Ethiopians - So all the queens of Ethiopia were called.

People's Bible Notes for Acts 8:27

Ac 8:27 A man of Ethiopia. The term is applied to that portion of Africa which lies south of Egypt. A eunuch of great authority. This mutilated class of men often rose to great power in Oriental countries. This one was the royal treasurer. Under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. Candace had her seat of power on the island of Meroe, a large island of the Nile, about a thousand miles from the mouth of the river. The name Candace seems to have belonged to several queens of this kingdom. It is still inscribed on the ruined palace walls of Meroe. Had come to Jerusalem for to worship. He was probably a proselyte to the Jewish faith. His long journey, his study of Scripture, and his ready hearing all indicate a believer in Jehovah, a devout man, and one seeking for the Christ.

Discussion for Acts 8

  • Irene123
    V. 4 - Therefore they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word. If we won't go our ownselves - God will make a way. They did fine in Jerusalem, but the Lord wanted it to the ends of the earth.
  • Irene123
vs. 9-12; all these people were worshippers of witchcraft - for YEARS! And here comes Phillip, preaches about Jesus whom they had NEVER heard and - a MULTITUDE were converted and were - BAPTIZED!! I believe all of it, but how miraculous!!! How GLORIOUS. And we can see that today if we will but have the faith, pray and fast for it; to TRULY care for lost souls.

To die out of the old ways is not always easy but if you just empty your heart in sincerity God will cleanse you. 1.Death = Repentance 2. Burial = Baptism in Jesus Name 3. Resurrection = The Holy Ghost, which is the spirit of God that you must receive in order to make heaven it wasn't just for Peter and the Apostles read Acts 5 where they commanded them not to preach Jesus but they obey God.

If anyone rejects the true plan of salvation of Jesus then all will miss heaven ....in Acts 4:12 tells us there is no other name given under heaven whereby we must be saved it is very important to obey the plan Jesus left us. 1.Is faith 2. Repentance 3. Baptism in Jesus Name 4. Receive the Holy Ghost which is the death, burial and resurrection.

This particular verse is missing in the New World Translation JW Bible. It was footnoted that this was inserted later and not in the original scripture. I will do my best to research this if this is correct and the implication to it.

It is very great to identify in this chapter that the gift of God cannot be purchased with money.
