Wesley's Notes for Acts 19:5

19:5 And hearing this, they were baptized - By some other. Paul only laid his hands upon them. They were baptized - They were baptized twice; but not with the same baptism. John did not administer that baptism which Christ afterward commanded, that is, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

People's Bible Notes for Acts 19:5

Ac 19:5 When they heard [this]. Paul's explanation of the difference between Christ's and John's baptism, to which we have only an allusion. The example of these men shows that if a baptism is imperfect, from an ignorance of Christ's will, it is not wrong to correct the defect by a more perfect obedience.

Discussion for Acts 19

  • Peter A. Okebukola
The Ephesians were initially blind to the gospel, preferring instead, their goddess Diana. God used the town clerk to appease the crowd in the concourse spoiling for a fight. At the end of the day, hearts were won for Christ in Ephesus. We need to stand firm in our faith and keep spreading God's Word regardless of inclement circumstances. God is there to protect. Holy Spirit is there to guide.

Acts 19:6 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. Apollo and some of the Disciples could not get the Holy Spirit to come about them, so Paul made it happen with his strong Faith. Paul was getting stronger in the Lord. The Chosen one from Jesus.

The Evil Spirit said Jesus I know, Paul I know but who are you..

He said this because He knew exactly who has the Power and Authority over him to command him to come out...

Those who have that Power and Authority are those who Believe and Receive Jesus Christ in Spirit and are Born Again of the Spirit of God John 3

These exorcists were Spiritually Dead and the Spirit knew.
