16:35 The pretors sent - Being probably terrified by the earthquake; saying, Let those men go - How different from the charge given a few hours before! And how great an ease of mind to the jailer!

People's Bible Notes for Acts 16:35

Ac 16:35,36 The magistrates sent the officers. The lictors are meant. It is possible that the magistrates had, in some way, heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens. They wished, therefore, to quietly get rid of them. The Porcian and Valerian laws exempted all Roman citizens from stripes or torture. They had broken the law.

Discussion for Acts 16

  • Peter A. Okebukola
God was the protector and guide of Paul and Silas. He saw them through the thick and thin of their missionary journeys. The Holy Spirit was in hand to tell them where to go and not to go. Wherever they went, coverts were won. Even when jailed, God came to the rescue. It is the same God today and we must look up to him for daily guidance. In turn, we should spread the gospel to lost souls.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. We must follow his comments for to grow in Grace not for Salvation. We are seal by the Holy Spirit of God in Salvation, we cannot loose it. Praise God

The Apostles They who said this vers Knew that those who truly believe on Jesus's name will repent and follow the righteous way to The Father which Jesus taught. Read The book of Matthew chapter 5 for the information in what Jesus said and taught. I love you all. May The Good Lord bless you this day and forever as your walk in Him continues. Amen.-Tahj
