People's Bible Notes for Acts 10:45

Ac 10:45 They of the circumcision. The Jews who went with Peter. They were astonished that the Holy Spirit should fall on Gentiles. This miraculous outpouring was extraordinary, and the object is plain, viz: to convince Peter and his fellow Jews that God had accepted the Gentiles; the same reason for which Peter's vision had been given. This is the only instance recorded of the Spirit falling on unbaptized persons. This exception is made to convince the Jewish Christians that uncircumcised Gentiles were fit subjects of baptism. Peter had to recall this fact in order to convince the church at Jerusalem that he had done right (Ac 11:2,3,15). As on Pentecost the Holy Spirit fell on Jews, so now when Gentiles receive the Gospel they are baptized with the Holy Spirit (Ac 11:15,16).

Hello Chuck; so what do you think that means, "In the Name of the Lord JESUS?" And without straining to falsely spiritualize, do you think it overrides what the Lord Himself said; "...In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost?"

Notice Peter commanded Cornelius to be baptized in the name of Jesus , just as he commanded the Jews to be baptized in the name of Jesus. Also the name of the Lord is Jesus. So the Jews and gentiles were commanded to be baptized in the name of Jesus. It is very plain to me.

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints Thank Lord for your Word that is not confusing.
  • Peter A. Okebukola
God, not being One of confusion, showed Peter and Cornelius, similar visions at different times and in different locations. He brought the two together and there was a mighty outpouring of the Holy Ghost, followed by water baptism. A lesson here is the power of fasting- both Cornelius and Peter were fasting when they had their visions. A second lesson is to be able to heed God's Word.

Acts 10 :13-14 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. Now Peter is used to following the Old Testament Law. But God is making changes in the book of Act's. God told Peter that he can now eat meat. The book of Act's in a transitional Book, there are many changes happening.
  • Evangelist Andrew Kelly
Disciple: Jesus already fulfilled the law. He died and arose again from the dead. You are out of context. Luke 24:44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
