Wesley's Notes for 2 Thessalonians 1:3

1:3 It is highly observable, that the apostle wraps up his praise of men in praise to God; giving him the glory. Your faith groweth - Probably he had heard from them since his sending the former letter. Aboundeth - Like water that overflows its banks, and yet increaseth still.

People's Bible Notes for 2 Thessalonians 1:3

2Th 1:3 We are bound to thank God. Paul states that he prayed ceaselessly for the Thessalonians (1Th 3:9-13). Here he points out how his prayers were answered. The messenger who had returned to him told him many things concerning the church which filled him with thankfulness. One of these was that their faith groweth exceedingly. Though persecuted, their faith did not fail, but became stronger. And with their faith their "charity", love, "toward each other" also abounded.

"..your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:" It should not offend us that God tries our hearts and proves our faith by trial of fire. The precious and godly character must be purified and separated from the reprobate.

Irene123, your right, we are not here to bully people in words of anger for our pride of the God's Word. But, we are here to worship God in truth and honor. When Adam ate of the forbidden fruit of knowledge of good and evil, Satan took control of this world. Now God has to redeem of back by sending his Son Jesus Christ. That is all explain in all of Apostle Paul's episode. God bless you

    V. 8 - "In flaming fire ... on those who know not God ..."; this is exactly why we are here now - and not in heaven as soon as we are saved - to try to pull 'those' out of the fire - hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. We're not here to 'rail' on those who don't know or are obtuse enough to think they know; we are to pray for and love ALL mankind.
