Peter is amonishing the saints not to forget the teachings of the apostles and the predictions of the prophets that false prophets and scoffers will come in the last days with false doctrines and that they should not be carried away with their error but continue to grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Tommy; AMEN! All these things we see shall be past. Our faith will be turned to sight and then shall we know, even as we ourselves are known. No more will things be said to us in parables, but we will be plainly shown of the Father; no more through a glass obscurely, but FACE TO FACE in the Presence of Jesus! Our mortal bodies changed into no more death! We shall pass from death into LIFE ETERNAL!
  • Tommy on 2 Peter 3 - 5 years ago
All I know is that all questions will be answered whether you meet Jesus at his coming or death. There will be no doubt in anyone's mind about any scripture anymore.
  • Rose on 2 Peter 3 - 5 years ago
There cometh a day when Jesus will put in his appearance. Yes he will come! Let us watch and be ready. Cause he will come as a thief in the night. This wicked earth will be literally burned. Sin will be finally eradicated from this earth. Satan and his angels along with the wicked will be destroyed forever. What a day this will be.Let us be ready to meet our God and Saviour.

Verse 18~We must keep growing in knowledge of Christ. We must continually learn Jesus' ways and thinking and follow in his footsteps.
  • BSP on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Verse 13: We are in desperate need of a new heavens and earth. This is in a figurative sense because we look forward to a new and perfect government and a cleansed earth full of righteous ones.
  • Servant of God on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
The message from Peter is the same as that of Jesus: Watch and pray. Obviously, we can't control the elements, but we can hear into understanding and watch into faith, that God is just and his reward is in his hand. This is certain in my life of devotion to God, the King of kings, the Lord of Lords, who has no partners but many Sons, which are those that remain faithful under all conditions!
  • JP on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
we find the BIG BANG not a theory in 3:10
  • A disciple on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Alex, dear brother; whether we like to think that "God could never want to destroy the earth, etc." is simply a lack of knowledge of the Word, and of the true character of God, and the condition of this present evil world. All that we see is one day going to be burned up with fervent heat, and all the elements dissolved. He made the world in the beginning out of nothing, and will make a new one!
  • Alex on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Imo God is not gonna destroy this beautiful earth with all her oceans and etc. THE new earth and new heaven is TH new CREATURE.The old earth is our evil Adamic nature, thats what he wants to destroy by his JUDGEMENT WHICH IS THE H.G N FIRE BAPTISM, THERE IN NOTHIN WRONG WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL EARTH,Jesus said out of the HEARTS of man proceeds all manner of EVIL.Thus the need for his baptism of FIRE.
  • John O'Neill on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
A Disciple touches on the important overall message from God regarding 2 Peter 3:7:

3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

  • A disciple on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Dossie; I don't know where that term came from; "The Church Age, or, The Age Of Grace;" but I think a better description would have to include, "The Time Of the Ambassadors of Christ and the Ministry of Reconciliation." The Day of the LORD will be the taking by force of the dominion and rule of the earth, the removing of the wicked, INCLUDING THE DEVIL AND HIS ANGELS; to set up the kingdom of God.
  • Dossie on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Verse 10 is not a contradiction. This verse is speaking about the Day of the LORD, when the Jews and others will undergo the wrath of the tribulation ( Matthew 25 and 2 Thessalonians 1). 1 Thessalonians 1 talks about the end of the church age or the age or grace when Christ will return for the saints. He will come in peace to collect the living and dead who believed and return to heaven.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
    Bsp, where's the contradiction?
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Jesus says, Matt. 24:35, Heaven and earth shall pass away.
  • BSP on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
In verse 10 these words are figurative because if they were taken literally, that would contradict with other Bible verses.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 6 years ago
Jesus preached to the unsaved, some believed some didn't, and He just kept walking and preaching, healing. Same with Paul. And others. No matter how hard it was, when it seemed no one was listening, they kept on, in the joy of the Lord.

Aletha:Yes! Very! For The Time is here, that They won't endure Sound Doctrine: 2Timothy 4:1-8 / The Night cometh, when no Man can Work. John9:4 /The Night is far Spent--- put on The Armour of Light. Romans 13:10-14./ They run from The Light: John 3:19. / Sometimes I sit in my room, Numb! Spiritually depressed: Eternity is coming They don't care.
  • Aletha McKenzie on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
Vs. 11 especially speaks to me at a time when it is VERY difficult to find a place of worship that doesn't have a "subculture" of gossiping and backbiting. Many times the Pastor's are not aware that these "busy bodies" are eroding His Church. People ultimately leave the ministries. Sad to see this happening †
  • Bruce on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
Put on The Whole Armour of God,that Ye may be able to stand against the wiles of The Devil. Ephesians 6:11 / Study to shew thyself approved unto God---Rightly dividing The Word of Truth. 2Timothy 2:15/and many False Prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:11/You will know them by how they twist Scripture, deny others. Matthew 7:15-16.
  • Word on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
Vs 5 don't be ignorant their was a first earth age. Destruction Jer. 4:20-27 Why? Ezekiel 28 Satans downfall where he wanted to be God but is only a man, pride, sin. Satan got one third of Gods children to follow him and they road that tail in Rev.12:4 and in Matt. 13:36 -40 it explains that Satan sends his tares, children to earth just like God does. 1st earth age spiritual bodies. 2nd age flesh.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
According to His promise, we look for new heavens and new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
  • Jim rapalje on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
The imporant part of the verse is as the Voice version says " until the coming of the new AGE! " All of the destruction by fire of the previous verses is for an AGE. It is not for "eternity" as other versions stipulate. EVERY knee will bow the knee to the Savior, Jesus Christ. Whether in this age, or the next. Every person, heavenly being, or thing WILL worship the Lord, by obedience or FIRE.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
V.9- The long suffering of the Lord is accounted to our salvation. Not willing any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
Paul, another amazing thing, like timelessness with God, is Elijah being received up, in the flesh. Passing from this physical world, with all its restrictions. Leaving this atmosphere to pass to Paradise. What a transfer! Leaves me thinking. With God all things are possible. And Enoch was not found. Another direct transfer Home!
  • PRINCE on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
This means v8, or the word of God is trying to bring to our attention that since Christ left this world, it has not been too long as we may perceive; us who live in the time world. According to God we have not stayed more than two years after Christ's death, so we are encouraged to view the world through the word of God through the spirit and the eyes of God through faith.
  • Paul on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
One thing to note is that verse 8 is not in the context of creation. It's simply pointing out that as Wayne said, God Is timeless, and a thousand years are not a significant length of time to him. Genesis 1 points out that the evening and the morning were the first day, the evening and the morning were the second day, etc.
  • Wayne on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
God, simply put, does not dwell in "time". Time, and spans of time, are for us on this earth. God is timeless, having neither beginning nor ending. Timeless. As stated in the word of God. We must think in the spiritual, not the physical.
  • Brianna on 2 Peter 3 - 7 years ago
    Vs. 8-9
These verses really give glimpse into how God views time. Vs. 8 can help us understand that the creative days were not literal 24 hour periods, but the term "day" can refer to a span of years. Vs. 9 highlights God's mercy and shows that he is being patient allowing as much time as possible to elapse for us to come to an approved standing with Him.
