Discussion for 2 Kings 2

Elijah has been taken up to heaven. His "apprentice" Elisha has now mounted the rostrum of a prophet. He was persistent in his request and he got double portion of his master's endowment. This is a message that if we persist in prayers to God our Master and Maker, He will hearken unto our plea according to His will.

"children" means anyone younger than the main person being talked about i.e. Elisha. These were young men, adults, not preteens as many might think when someone says "little children". The she bears "tare" this word means to frighten (like scared to death, but not literally die) not maim or kill. The others in the group probably ran as well with a healthy fear of bears.

The mantle given to Elisha was - God's doing; not Elisha's. God chose Elisha to replace Elijah as the prophet to HIS people. Elisha, in choosing the 'double portion' did just as God willed. It wasn't Elisha's time for heaven yet.
