Sorrow is a necessary part of repentance. Because when we are rebuked by God we mourne or are made sorry about our sin which saves us. Because salvation is of the LORD. And He who hath begun(born again or new birth) a good work in you shall perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. God has saved us from the penalty of our sin. He is now saving us from the power of our sin. Finally from its presenc

2 Corinthians 7:8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season. In this letter, Paul never repented of sin, Paul repented of his way. In all 12 Paul's epistles, Paul never uses repentance as the final step to salvation. Repentance is change of way.

I think Godly sorrow and repentance are the only way can be saved
  • Yetunde
Ronnie: The spirit referred to here in 'the filthiness of the spirit' is the part of the soul called the 'heart' which we use to feel, not our 'spirit man' which is sealed by the Holyspirit when we are born again. Notice how this spirit heart of the soul is used interchangably together in these verses: Isa 65:14, Ps 51:17, 34:18, 51:10, Eze 36:26, etc
  • Felix
I think sorrow is not part of repentance but it can lead to repentance. What do you think?
  • Maria Guadalupe Garcia
Repent ! Knowing that u did something wrong recognizing it and repenting from it . For God knows ur heart. Applying his word to you.
  • Babatunde Fadairo
God is faithful, all he wants is for us to adhere to his rules that is why the Corinthian says we must be holy and be cleans in heart.
  • David L.F. for verse 10
I do not think this verse means that it is of a necessity to give a repentance before true salvation is attained , but that one would be of a repentive heart as a believer, in this writing.
  • Tanya for verse 1
We are missing in the fear of God. Not just being afraid of him but also out of respect, love, honor his desires of you, not wanting to do anything that would hurt God or bring a reproach on him. Angel
  • Anonymous for verse 1
Jehovah God wants us to be free of practices that pollute our fleshly body and damage our spirit, or dominant mental inclination. We must therefore avoid addictive behaviors that are known to be harmful to physical and mental health.
  • William Arthur Davis for verse 2
Paul is a new creature in Christ, old life is gone. That is why he can say we have corrupted no one. All things are come new..
  • Leo Ray Torres for verse 1
I beleive that once Jesus Christ , comes into a person heart by faith , that the walk of faith begans , and that these promises { the promises spoken by Jesus Christ ) can and must be used by the baby christian , to rid of old worldly habits and secert sin that one my still have , promises such as mark, 11:24 , John, 15:16 - etc

Verse 10 shows the difference between godly sadness and worldly sadness. Godly sadness is shown by a person recognizing that his or her sin was against God himself and truly grasping the effects of that sin, repenting, and striving to not commit that sin again. Worldly sadness is shown when one is just embarrassed or sad over the bad consequences that they have to face. He or she does not fully grasp the depth of their sin and deep down they do not want to put forth the effort to turn away from the things that led up to that sin.
  • Theophilus Dorgbetor
It is my greatest desire to cleanse myself of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Godly sorrow works repentance to salvation. I pray the Good LORD to give me this in a world full of sin. GOD HELP ME!
  • R. D. Mattock
Paul is encouraging not tearing down. We can learn from a flock of geese, they do a loot of HONKING. When they are flying over you they are honking. Not annoying you. Scientists have discovered when they are honking that they are ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER. They are saying come on letís make it another mile. Just a little further and will be there. Hold on just a little longer. Thatís whatís going on with the honking. Thatís what the church needs to have, the spirit of encouragement. Hold on just a little bit longer. The spirit of press on, the spirit of hold on. Some of you are facing obstacles, some of you have hit the head winds. I am telling you just a little further down the road there is some relief coming. Hold on to the hand of God. 1 Thessalonians 5:11, ďTherefore encourage one another, and build up one another. WHAT KIND OF HONKING ARE YOU DOING, You may be the individual that stands up in the service and throws up both hands and yells glory. It may unlock somebody that is bound. It may encourage somebody that is discouraged.
  • Mrs. Gaga
Godly sorrow brings repentance and forgiveness but the wordly sorrow brings anger and death; as anger does not work righteouness of God.
  • Yvette phillips
