*strongholds-G3794-ochyro'ma=a castle; a fortress; arguments and beliefs used to defend against an opponent; per Strongs.

Paul here reminds the 'saints' that they are not ignorant of Satan's devices; that Satan concentrates on deceiving the mind, the thinking of his victims. Did he not 'change' the minds of Adam and Eve?

So, those who are not aware of Satan's 'devices', his plans, his strategies, are all focused on your mind. This awareness also helps us know how they think, how they plan and what they plan.

*casting down-G2507-kathaireo'=to take down; to destroy; to pull down; to demolish; to refute.

Bringing into captivity every thought to submit to the mind of Christ is the aim here. Yes, submitting to Christ's word, his truth; these are the 'weapons' we use to cast down or pull down all human reasoning. We must first begin in our own mind to pull down all human reasoning. Only then can we be prepared to 'pull down every thought' that is in opposition to the Christ. This one part of the spiritual war we must wage with Satan and his 'seed' Esau, the Edomite Jew.
  • Sheba on 2 Corinthians 10
We must be obedient unto Christ. Our warfare is spiritual and Jesus fights our battles for us. Bring into captivity all thoughts and obedience unto Christ. God pulls down the strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against Him. All glory goes to God the Father, Creator of the universe.

  • Ryan Stone on 2 Corinthians 10
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: 2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. Good set of verses
  • Verse 15~Paul was confident that as the faith of others continued to grow, there would be an increase.

  • Peter A. Okebukola on 2 Corinthians 10
Eternal truths- For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
  • Bennett Okafor on 2 Corinthians 10
Jesus said behold I have given you power and authority over EVERY POWER Of the enemy. We have power authority and dominion over our thoughts and every suggestions of the devil. Greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. As he is so are we in this world
  • A disciple on 2 Corinthians 10
Ray; We are born of the Water, clean through His Word, born from above of the Spirit, new creations in Christ! We are not full grown when we're born; but must grow in His grace and knowledge, by WORKING OUT OUR SALVATION through proving by fire! It is a chance to transform our very nature and character; but it is a FIGHT AGAINST all that has been our nature and character up until we were saved.
  • Verse 5: We must bring any negative or wrong thought into captivity and to make them obedient to the Christ. We need to find ways to combat negative thinking by applying encouraging Scriptures.
  • Ray321 on 2 Corinthians 10
Paul is always writing to saved believers, mostly Gentiles. Peter wrote to Jewish believers in his epistles. John wrote to Jewish believers in his epistles. Every book in the Bible was written for a reason, but it all end up at the cross of Jesus Christ. The Bible, before the cross and after the cross, finally we have Salvation thru Jesus Christ our Lord by his finished works. Amen
  • Praise you Father God and Jesus Christ for the New Jerusalem!!! The World Tomorrow is nigh.
  • Verse 4 shows that we are to be engaged in a spiritual warfare and not a physical one.
  • As a counsellor I see the power of strongholds sometimes called a home for thoughts in our heads as the greatest problem people face. At some point in their lives they have believed a lie or several lies. These lies must be replaced with the truth of God that we may be free indeed. Satan as the Father of all lies will allways use that weapon. Our greatest weapon is truth.
  • Oluwanifise Abayomi Isaac on 2 Corinthians 10:4
This is a revelational scripture for us to know that we need to fight using the spritual weapons which are very potent in God to overcome stronghold of darkness and the devil. The bible talks about the whole world lying in WICKEDNESS and that the secret place of this world is the habitation of CRUELTY!So to survive in this kind of world we must not war after the flesh but engage in spritual warfare using our mighty spritual weapons on a daily basis for we fight against a tireless and relentless enemy--- that old serpent!we shall remain victorious in Jesus Name.Halleluyah!

  • Pamela on 2 Corinthians 10:4
Paul is speaking to a rebelious people about the reality of warfare. When we believe in Jesus with all our hearts we must also believe His word which in John 16 33 says that in this world we will have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world. Wow! Jesus assures us that we need not fear about the logistics of how we will overcome our adversity but that through Him we have blessed assurance that victory is ours. 3 things pray seek God 1st the bible says in James 4 7 Submit yourself to God resist the devil and He shall flee. 2nd Allow the Word of God to work in You like never before surround yourself with psalms when you feel defeated ignore that and resite I am more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus who strengthens me. 3rd have faith! It is impossible to please God without faith. Face your enemy head on and know that Through Jesus we wear the victors crown! Be blessed.
