Wesley's Notes for 2 Corinthians 11:3

11:3 But I fear - Love is full of these fears. Lest as the serpent - A most apposite comparison. Deceived Eve - Simple, ignorant of evil. By his subtilty - Which is in the highest degree dangerous to such a disposition. So your minds - We might therefore be tempted, even if there were no sin in us. Might be corrupted - Losing their virginal purity. From the simplicity that is in Christ - That simplicity which is lovingly intent on him alone, seeking no other person or thing.

People's Bible Notes for 2 Corinthians 11:3

2Co 11:3 But I fear, etc. As Eve was seduced from God by the serpent (Ge 3:1), so he fears that the Corinthian brethren may be led from the simplicity, single-minded devotion, "that is in Christ".

Discussion for 2 Corinthians 11:3

  • As a "chaste virgin to Christ " Paul feared that the Corinthians would revert back to their former ways before they came into the knowledge of the truth. Prior to that time, they have been deceived just as Eve was!
  • I don't understand the simplicity in the bible. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. BUT a single minded man only sees from one side and misses the other side. We were instructed to love The Lord with all our hearts and souls so we wouldn't follow after other Gods. Jesus comes along and we are now partakers of his death. So now comes our spirit and the spirit world. It's appointed unto man to die ONCE and the second death-your physical death you are now in judgement.
