Wesley's Notes for Nehemiah 5:5

5:5 Our flesh - We are of the same nature, and religion with them, though they treat us as if we were beasts or Heathens. Bondage - We are compelled to sell them for our subsistence. Daughters - Which was an evidence of their great necessity, because their daughters were more tender, and weak, and unfit for bond - service, and more exposed to injuries than their sons. Redeem - Which we are allowed to do, #Exod 21:7 |- 11, but have not wherewith to do it.

Discussion for Nehemiah 5

  • A disciple
"Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?" With regard for the practicality of the Apostles' statement, That we not bring the Gentile Believers under bondage to be circumcised and follow the ordinances of Moses; IT DOES NOT somehow preclude the good use of the Law as a teacher of love for God and men.

God is always merciful to us each time we help ourselves in moving close to God

Praise the Lord for all His Blessings including His Chastisements. According to the scripture he chastises those that He loves and He knows how to give the better best gifts unto His Children. Even in bondage Nehemiah was an extremely blessed man. In fact Nehemiah was in a cushy position of blessing as the Kings Cupbearer prior to taking this gutsy step of faith.

Wow its sick how they took advantage of one another. Nehemiah is awesome for laying down the law😊

And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy Acts 2:19
  • it made me to discover that believers can remind God the good works they have done in His name even though He sees and knows everything
