Wesley's Notes for Matthew 25:3

25:3 The foolish took no oil with them - No more than kept them burning just for the present. None to supply their future want, to recruit their lamp's decay. The lamp is faith. A lamp and oil with it, is faith working by love.

People's Bible Notes for Matthew 25:3

Mt 25:3 They that [were] foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them. The Jewish lamp was a shallow vessel filled with oil, on which the wick floated. These virgins had oil in their lamps when they started, but had no oil to replenish them. They started out, apparently, all right, but did not hold out.

Discussion for Matthew 25

  • James C Hunt
When the Bible talks about the dead in Christ will rise first what's being said is that those people who have crucified the flesh. In short they have made themselves dead to the world and alive to Christ. The virgins who didn"t put oil in their lamps - this is a direct reference to the light of God"s word which comes via the Holy Spirit. The 5 virgins had no light so they walked in darkness.
  • I AM THAT MICHAEL ISAAC DALE:
The wicked lie saying, No where does it say who the two witnesses are. But I believe they could be any 2 of these 3. But it could be you and me or any two saints. I ask God lots of time for Him to let me be one of them. It would be an honor to die again for Christ. YE NEITHER WITNESS NOR HONOUR ME. It is written, I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bear witness of me.

ch.25: mainly be diligent and responsible with what you have been given-God is coming with rewards in His hand. We may be surprised by the things he has kept in our account when we get to heaven, but we know the Father desires to give us the kingdom. I don't want to be a goat!
