People's Bible Notes for Matthew 23:3

Mt 23:3 Whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do. While in Moses' seat, presenting the law of Moses. He has elsewhere taught that the traditions they added were to be rejected (Mt 15:3-6). Do not ye after their works. Do not follow their examples. The law of Moses was still in force, for the Christian dispensation was not ushered in until Christ died, and hence was still to be obeyed, but the wicked example of its teachers was to be rejected.

Discussion for Matthew 23

From the day that the Lord Jesus came into this world, the devil's seed was after Him to destroy Him; and throughout His Ministry He was pursued by hateful and hostile hypocrites, who were deaf as an adder, and would never humble themselves to receive His good and wholesome teaching. In the last few days Jesus has come right to Jerusalem to speak to their face, and it cost Him His life. We follow!

Rev. Kerns; I like what you said; Ps. 68:11; "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Lord shall raise up a standard against him." Isa. 69:19

There is only One Father and He is the Heavenly Father and the Creator of Heaven and earth and the fullness thereof. The Bible tells us in the book of Timothy to " Study to shew ourselves approved of God. Rightfully dividing the Word of Truth ". Reminder, The Word of God is to be discussed not argued over. It doesn't matter how we may think or feel, God's Word will always stand.

And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. That means no man period!!!!!
  • Irene123
    v. 9 - Jesus here is speaking of pastors, preachers, ministers of Christ, of which some are referred to as - 'father'. He's NOT referring to our earthly fathers who sired us. Isa. 1:18, "Come now, let us REASON together, ..... "; The Lord Jesus isn't unreasonable; He's appealing to our common sense.
  • Peter A. Okebukola
The Pharisees had some tongue lashing from Jesus in this chapter. Much deserved. The generations of vipers Christ referred to abound till today and growing by the numbers. As Christ predicted, the love of many shall wax cold. We are in the end times indeed.
