Wesley's Notes for Luke 2:52

2:52 Jesus increased in wisdom - As to his human nature, and in favour with God - In proportion to that increase. It plainly follows, that though a man were pure, even as Christ was pure, still he would have room to increase in holiness, and in consequence thereof to increase in the favour, as well as in the love of God.

People's Bible Notes for Luke 2:52

Lu 2:52 Jesus increased. Jesus grew up among a people seldom and only contemptuously named by the ancient classics, and subjected at the time to the yoke of a foreign oppressor in a remote and conquered province of the Roman empire; in the darkest district of Palestine; in a little country town of proverbial insignificance; in poverty and manual labor; in the obscurity of a carpenter's shop; far away from universities, academies, libraries, and literary or polished society; without any help, as far as we know, except the parental care, the daily wonders of nature, the Old Testament Scriptures, the weekly Sabbath service of the synagogue at Nazareth (Lu 4:16), the annual festivities in the temple of Jerusalem (Lu 2:42), and the secret intercourse of his soul with God, his heavenly Father (Schaff).

Insight; the Law given through Moses was right from the mouth of God; NOTHING of his own thoughts! It was for the blood that the woman was unclean in giving birth; and for bringing to remembrance the redemption sacrifice of Christ for all who are born of women, that this purification was required. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is without sin; yet He subjected Himself to fulfill all righteousness.

Insight; Have you not read, or perhaps forgotten, that the Covenant God made with Abraham, He established for all the son's of the Covenant for ever? and shouldn't He also who made the Covenant, when He came in flesh, Himself be subject to His own oath? Why did Jesus go to John to be baptized? Because "Thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness." Circumcision is a sign in the flesh, of faith.

V22, the days were accomplished, 8 days passed, but it does not actually say Jesus was circumcised. The purpose of the birth of Jesus is to remove false religion to establish the true religion. Jesus never circumcised anyone or teach it. Woman, Mary, is not un-pure after giving birth. NO Blood sacrifice needed. Male babies are not holy and female babies unholy. Both are holy because God gave life.
