Wesley's Notes for Joshua 24:14

24:14 The gods - Whereby it appears, that although Joshua had doubtless prevented and purged out all public idolatry, yet there were some of them who practised it in their private houses and retirements. Your fathers - Terah, and Nahor, and Abraham, as ver.#2|, and other of your ancestors. In Egypt - See #Ezek 23:3|,8,19,21,27. Under these particulars, no doubt he comprehends all other false gods, which were served by the nations amongst whom they were, but only mentions these, as the idols which they were in more danger of worshipping than those in Canaan; partly because those of Canaan had been now lately and palpably disgraced by their inability to preserve their worshippers from total ruin; and partly, because the other idols came recommended to them by the venerable name of antiquity, and the custom of their forefathers.

Discussion for Joshua 24

  • Anne
With God's help and guidance, Joshua fulfilled his purpose by leading Israel into Canaan and settling them in the promised land, as God commanded. As he left he admonished them to choose whom they will serve and remined them of the consequences of their choice.
  • NOEL
My brother and sisters in Christ Jesus, Its nice the life story of Joshua. He is only assistant and follower of Moses, but his hearth and mind is defecated to serve Moses and his almighty God. He don't know how to lead and protect the people but according to the bible Moses gave him the power to continued his mission given by our almighty God and his purposed nothing is impossible will domed.

JOSHUA 24:20 if you forsake THE LORD and serve strange gods then HE will turn and do you hurt and consume you after that HE hath done you good 2 TIMOTHY 2:13 IF WE SUFFER WE SHALL ALSO REIGN WITH HIM --- IF WE DENY HIM HE ALSO WILL DENY US --- 1 JOHN 2:4 he that saith I know HIM and keepeth not HIS commandments --- is a liar and the truth is not in him
  • Truth
Truth be told this is where Jesus got all of his teachings and learning from the so called Old Testament and the true meaning of know one gets to father but through
Me is to walk as I do and be as I am not the praising him but GOD who sent him and he also told the disciples they shall do greater things then him so since Jesus isn't a liar and you can't have 2 masters it's about GOD GOD AND GOD
  • A disciple
"If you know these things, happy are you if you do them."God gives us commandments to live by and He expects obedience from the heart, as good and beloved children. Disobedience, selfishness and sinning against one's conscience, against one's God, against one's neighbor; is not a health issue, but a moral issue. "If you do right, won't you be accepted? but if you do not right, sin is at the door."
  • A disciple
"Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good." It is the LORD's prerogative who is to be saved, and who shall serve Him; and He does not accept hypocrisy, lip-service or insincerity.
