Wesley's Notes for Isaiah 4:1

4:1 In that day - In that calamitous time. Seven - Many. A certain number for an uncertain. One man - Because few men shall survive that dreadful stroke. Only - Own us for thy wives. Our reproach - Virginity was esteemed a reproach; children, the usual fruit of marriage, being both an honour to their parents, and a blessing of God, especially to that people, from some of whose loins the Messiah was to spring.

Discussion for Isaiah 4

Today's woman of the world identifies with complete autonomy and independence from the authority of any man. Yet in spite of all this "equality" , for many women , the absence of any biological miracle of giving birth is still a reproach not necessarily in the eyes of a sinful society but to many not all women themselves who would love to bear children hence they still need a man .

It is true that in scripture, that a woman represents a church.Depending on her description, whether she is faithful and pure, obedient to God and Christ, or unfaithful, fallen, apostat, disobedient to God and Christ. Is her beauty from the character she has learned from knowing and spending time with her creator, and savior Jesus,or is it superficial, not coming from an intimate relationship withJesus.

I have been wondering what "seven women" has to do with the Bible. Thanks for the interpretation of the word..in deed the word "women" symblozes the "church" and or christians who want to retain their identity as such but not willing to meet the special conditions attached to the calling....
  • God's Chosen
Women used to be happy to serve at home with their husbands children create make homes as God had ordained, but because most of our men got out of their place, women have had to step up be in that lead role so them their children can survive. It is what it is. Just serve God will your whole heart and trust in Him, walk in the Spirit and in the truth of the Word and you will be just fine!

God gave me, when I read this years ago, that this is the prophecy of Women's Liberation where women want to be and do their own thing and we will only marry you and take on your name to keep away the shame because a single woman past a certain age was frowned upon in those days. We are living in that day and that time!
