Wesley's Notes for Acts 7:43

7:43 Ye took up - Probably not long after the golden calf: but secretly; else Moses would have mentioned it. The shrine - A small, portable chapel, in which was the image of their god. Moloch was the planet Mars, which they worshipped under a human shape. Remphan, that is, Saturn, they represented by a star. And I will carry you beyond Babylon - That is, beyond Damascus (which is the word in Amos) and Babylon. This was fulfilled by the king of Assyria, #2Kings 17:6|.

People's Bible Notes for Acts 7:43

Ac 7:43 Ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch. Israel turned to the abominable worship of Moloch and other false gods, and hence shall be carried into Captivity. Moloch, a god of the Amorites, worshiped by human sacrifices. Remphan. Some planet worshiped as a god. Beyond Babylon. A punishment brought on all Israel for its sins, predicted by Amos (Am 5:25-27). Observe still his point of showing their national sinfulness.

It is interesting to note that Paul then Saul was present when Stephen was stoned. At the time he was a persecutor of the early Christians, however, he was paying close attention to the sermon as seen in Acts 13. Here Paul picks up exactly where Stephen left off preaching. So if anyone is interested in hearing the rest of the sermon, be sure to take a look at Acts 13!

Joe Montgomery. Verse 45 tells us that the Son of God, Jesus was present as Israel walked through the land of Moab, leading Joshua into the promised land. Jesus is the Captain of the Lord of Hosts and was worshipped by Joshua, prior to crossing the Jordan River and going over to the Canaanite cities of Gilgal, Jericho etc.

Joe Montgomery, my Spanish King James reads “Josué,” not “Jesus.” Josue translated to English is Joshua. And that makes sense because this verse is referring to Joshua taking Israel into the Promised Land. Hope this helps.
