Wesley's Notes for 2 Peter 2:1

2:1 But there were false prophets also - As well as true. Among the people - Of Israel. Those that spake even the truth, when God had not sent them; and also those that were truly sent of him, and yet corrupted or softened their message, were false prophets. As there shall be false - As well as true. Teachers among you, who will privately briny in - Into the church. Destructive heresies - They first, by denying the Lord, introduced destructive heresies, that is, divisions; or they occasioned first these divisions, and then were given up to a reprobate mind, even to deny the Lord that bought them. Either the heresies are the effect of denying the Lord, or the denying the Lord was the consequence of the heresies. Even denying - Both by their doctrine and their works. The Lord that bought them - With his own blood. Yet these very men perish everlastingly. Therefore Christ bought even them that perish.

2Pe 2:1 Warnings Against False Teachers SUMMARY OF II PETER 2: False Prophets and False Teachers. The Judgment on the Fallen Angels. Judgment on the Antediluvians. The Perverseness of Wicked Men. The Example of Balaam, the Son of Beor. There were false prophets. The true prophets are referred to in 2Pe 1:19. Here the false prophets are spoken of in contrast. The term "false prophet" occurs several times in the Old Testament. For example, see Jer 5:31 6:13 8:10. Christ foretells the rise of false prophets (Mt 24:24). Among the people. Israel is meant. Even as there shall be false teachers among you. Teachers of false doctrines. Paul often warns against such teachers. See Ac 20:30. Who privily shall bring in damnable heresies. "Destructive heresies" (Revised Version). Party divisions caused by false teaching. A heresy is a schism, or that which tends to produce schism. Even denying the Lord that bought them. This is the culmination of false teaching in the church and has been fulfilled by those professedly Christian teachers who reject the divinity of Christ and the atoning power of his blood. And bring upon themselves swift destruction. Sudden destruction.

Yes there are people that despise all manner of authority. From the president, government, law enforcement, employers, etc... 1 timothy 2:1 tells us to pray for ALL MEN especially those in authority. God calls for us to intercede for them. And while we are at it pray forgiveness for our own sin. We all must give an account for ourselves, not for Trump, John Doe next door, or anyone else, but self.

WARNING to those SAVED: verse 1 false prophets and teachers.., verse 2 many shall follow ..., verse 3 they will make merchandise of you (pimping you ...), verse 4-9 Jehovah / GOD reminds us they may get-by with wickedness for a season but they will not get away. verse 10-22 we are given a detail description of how artfully these hell-bound people work to trick many into hell / the lake of fire.

2 Peter 2:14 makes a lot of sense, in regards to false religion. It also convicts me, and shows to beware. It seems like the "an heart they have exercised with covetous practices" is multiteired. In context, he is speaking of a routine pattern of sin, specifically, with adultery, idolatry, and gainsaying. Yet, there are also theological practices that lead to seared consciences.

Verse 5~Noah not only took on the task of building the ark, but he also shared his faith with others and tried to warn others. Noah cared about the lives of his family and others.
