Wesley's Notes for 2 Kings 1:10

1:10 Let fire, &c. - Elijah did this, not to secure himself, he could have done that some other way: nor to revenge himself, for it was not his own cause that he acted in: but to prove his mission, and to reveal the wrath of God from heaven against the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.

    We must become aware of the worldly things that we have in our lives that we are holding onto that oppose obedience to God, and run contrary to what he is telling us to do. If we persist, we are given over to and grow in doublemindedness: becoming SO EARTHLY MINDED THAT WE ARE NO HEAVENLY GOOD.

    The lesson for me in the passage is that;
    1. Humility: the third captain and his fifty humbled themselves before God in the live of elijah, no wonder this time around, the holyspirit spoke to elijah which never happened in the first two cases.
    2. Reverence God:if the king had hold God in high esteem, he would have consulted him first. but this is the problem with most christians, may God help us.

    I had read this story before, and I wanted to read it again, I couldn't find it, So I asked the Author of this book to show me where the story was, and he did !! But the meat of the story to me is -- No matter what the situation is-- you seek God the FATHER ABOUT IT FIRST !!

    We should trust in God at all time because he never disappoints, Elijah had faith in Him and He didn't disappoint Elijah
