Wesley's Notes for 1 Corinthians 7:7

7:7 For I would that all men were herein even as I - I would that all believers who are now unmarried would remain eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake St. Paul, having tasted the sweetness of this liberty, wished others to enjoy it, as well as himself. But every one hath his proper gift from God - According to our Lord's declaration, All men cannot receive this saying, save they, the happy few, to whom it is given, #Matt 19:11|.

People's Bible Notes for 1 Corinthians 7:7

1Co 7:7 I would that all men were as I myself. Had absolute self-control, as I have. His directions all recognize the weakness of human nature, and the need of making no requirements too great for it. But every man hath his proper gift of God. He had the gift of self-control; others might have other gifts which he did not have.

Discussion for 1 Corinthians 7

  • Mrs. Lindsey
Verse 2 is my favorite because it lets us know that a man is to have his own wife, not nobody else's and a woman is to have her own husband, not the husband of another woman and never, ever are two folk of the same gender to call themselves married to each other!! That's simply an abomination.

Verse 28~There are no perfect marriages because there are no perfect people. Married people will experience tribulation in the flesh but they must stick to their vows of for better or for worse.

Blessed; I'm not sure how you come up with the idea that my spouse left me; but it isn't true. The points you bring up however are worth talking about. God absolutely has a plan for each of us to know and understand Him through Jesus and His Spirit. Most do not think in these terms, but are greedily hoping and looking for some kind of glory and happiness for self. And YES Many impostors in church.
  • Blessed
To a disciple, stephen and others that have gone thru the pain of your spouse leaving you
It is because of that God again has a plan for each of us.
I met a great Christian lady and fell in love like nothing I had ever experienced before. My ex had a affair with a person from church! Guard your family at church
Do not let your guard down. Churches have many wolves in sheeps clothing!!
  • A disciple
Stephen; I am so very thankful for the Lord's gentleness and forgiveness for taking me back as well, and not letting the devil destroy me while I was out there! There are many of us who have been betrayed and mistreated by those whom we loved and trusted, and have foolishly reacted by taking a bad turn into sin because of it. There's a lot of wisdom we can share with others, how and why not to do!
  • A disciple
Josef; the first thing I've always thought about that verse is like when the Lord said, If your eye cause you to sin, pluck it out and cast it away from you; for its better to enter into life one-eyed, than to be cast into the Gehenna of fire. The Greek word translated, "burn" comes from the word meaning "to kindle" or "be ignited, glow" lit. be refined, or inflamed (with anger grief lust etc).
