I think this verse says a lot. I am a woman and have been separated from my husband for the past two years. Out of guilt of leaving him, I have not filed for child support nor have I ever got a divorce yet. He acts as if as long as we are away and he still gets to see us then it is ok. However, if I speak of divorcing him he flips out and becomes vindictive. I am unsure about whether God would put us together (when we were both saved at the time) and now want us to divorce? I am scared of doing the wrong thing and have prayed fervently for a long time and am still "wishy washy" about what to do. He still does not provide, so it is comforting to look to God�s word for guidance as well!!!
The text speaks for itself. There are a great many health benefits to red wine in particular. The bible also says to drink in moderation. We each know what is excess within ourselves and what is not. Discernment is assumed.
Clarity is so needed, and I agree with it. I have a sister-in-Christ that has the gift of healing, and is selective of being used. She always refers to 1 Timothy 5:22 when it�s something she doesn't want to do, and has "no" true understanding of the Word of God. She truly needs a relationship with the Holy Spirit!
Eric, hundreds of times The Word talks about Jews, gentiles, Egyptians, Ethiopians and other races that God will cause to be with Him for eternity! You have should read The Word fully and get rid of biases.
Have heard several sermons preached from this particular verse,Usually focused on first part of verse. In this day of apostasy the Church needs reminding that there is a ending that with two or three witnesses accusations can and should be used to the purification of the Church.
Provision is three-fold. Physical, spiritual, and emotional provision is necessary for truly caring for your family. What good is feeding and clothing the body without feeding he soul or spirit?
I can't help but disagree with Eric's comment above. Jesus helped non jews as well as jews in his lifetime, for example, the Roman Centurion whose servant he healed, the Samaritan woman at the well plus all of her villagers who came to believe in him. There was another woman non Jewish - she asked for healing for her daughter but Jesus at first refused and then because of her faith he granted her request (the crumbs etc).
Jesus also tells a parable about a rich man who invited his friends to a banquet, but they all made excuses. So he sent his servants out to bring the poor and the sick off the streets to partake of the banquet. I understand that to mean that the rich are the Jewish people and the poor and sick are the gentiles.
If you take the Apostle Paul, he believed that he was to be the Apostle to the Gentiles.
So I don't believe that Jesus was just for the Jews, I think he was for everybody.
In 2 Peter 2 he says that God is patient because he is waiting for all souls to be healed and brought to salvation (I paraphrase).
I think everyone here needs to see the big picture, that is that Christ was sent to but the lost sheep of Israel and if you are not of the seed of Jacob Latin men and Women And Black men and women of Indian and Negroid decent then all of you are wasting your time doth saith the Lord. THE BIBLE IS THE BOOK OF THE HEBREW ISRAELITES!
I agree with Dan in that this scripture speeks in reference to accusations made against another and we should not be hasty in involving ourselves for fear of being part of another mans prejudice,and therefore another mans sin. This is my interpretation of 1 Tim. 5:22. I also beleave that we as Christians should apply this teaching not only with church members but with all people.
I think all the commentaries are wrong in with this interpretation. I believe that "lay hands suddenly on no man" refers to the context of scripture starting with v.19 "Against an elder - Or presbyter. Do not even receive an accusation..." I believe the Apostle is saying to lay your hands on someone as to punish because of some accusation, and your prejudice against anyone (an elder or presbyter especially). We must be absolutely sure of the truth before we make a decision to punish someone in the church.
