to Jonathan s you must know God has given us the ability to take care of our family even in hard times we sometimes get down and the first thing we do is say God why. We need to remember he said he would take care of us. Have you ever been hungry I mean hungry sometimes we need to stop and think.
  • Greg on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
I m not a Bible student but I can recall that Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding So why would the Bible forbid moderate consumption of wine It is drunkenness which is forbidden
  • John on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
Truly bible condems drinking eating anything that May impairs ua justement can a little wine fall in dat category
  • Dick Anderson on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
The exegesis of Paul's recommendation to Timothy about wine is pretty slim, in the discussion, here. There is NO, repeat NO admonition against moderate wine intake ANYWHERE in scripture, including the Apochrypha. Wine, olive oil, and honey have always been symbols taken literally for increase, health, and generosity. While the nature of mankind is fallen, we are not without comfort from the Holy Spirit, the hallowed gifts of the Father, and most blessed Salvation from the knowable Person of God, Jesus, the messiah.
  • Joseph Siame on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 10 years ago
Providing for ones relatives is a natural command for a believer as we see in genesis 30:30 Jacob asking Laban to allow him to go and provide for his own relatives. We also see in Isaiah 58:7 God describes the kind of sacrifices that pleases Him among them the caring of ones own blood. It is therefore a paramount responsibility for a christian who is full of love to provide for the lacking relatives. We would also extend the relationship to the fellow believers for we share the same faith and belong to the same house hold of believers through the blood of Jesus Christ.

i meant touch isnt needed to have spiritual interaction. not unless your led to by his spirit. we should not fear laying of hands.
  • Alicia on 1 Timothy 5:22 - 10 years ago
a friend of mine thinks it has to do with the transference of unclean spirits but i dont think touch is needed to have such a spirit interact with you. when the bleeding woman touched Jesus garment healing power came out of him and she was made whole. HE was not made impure as the law of the old. Sin is a sickness and we are told to lay hands on the sick but we should be considerate of people and their personal space and try to build eachother up in the Word and helpn eachother Not to sin. By His righteousness, we are healed. Not by our own so lets let his fruit operate in us.
  • Dee on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
The consistent theme of the bible is all things in moderation. Yes becoming intoxicated and threatening becomes sin but drinking in moderation and of course for health reason (I know this remedy works for stomachs) is encouraged through scripture.
  • Timothy osterlund on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
God, thru His writers, heavily criticizes drunkeness, debauchery and carousing. It is written, "Be not drunk with wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit." So be careful of what you bring in to your life. Can a man take fire into his bosom and his clothes not be burned?
  • BSP on 1 Timothy 5:1 - 10 years ago
This scripture is saying that when we may have to admonish and older man, we should do so with respect and treat him as we would a father. It is not usually easy to give counsel or receive it, but the way that it is given can make a big difference.
  • Dane on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
    Proverbs 20:1. Proverbs 21:17 Proverbs 23:29-35.
I'm writing a sermon and part of it is about drinking it's a mo-no....
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 Timothy 5:9 - 10 years ago
We are prayerful for you Ms. Debra, and want to let you know the Lord will provide for you. Paul is admonishing Timothy how the Church was not to take into care widows under 60yrs. old. while having been married to one husband. Rather it is proper to marry again, if the Lord so moves. If the widow does not have children or grandchildren, then the Church should assist. True religion is to visit widows, and orphans in their time of affliction, and keep from being worldly. May the Lord bless you richly.
  • Debra Caldwell on 1 Timothy 5:9 - 10 years ago
I am a widow at age 52. I don't understand 1 Timothy 5: 1-16. Please explain to me. My husband would always explain to me any part of the bible I did not understand. I miss him so much, it's very painful but, I just pray and that helps a lot.
  • Ercell on 1 Timothy 5:22 - 10 years ago
This verse means that one shouldn't lay hands on
a man for public ministry to quickly without a thorough
investigation. He needs to be suitable and qualified for
the office of an overseer/pastor/elder. Nor share in other
people's sins: this means the sin of hasty ordination which
makes those responsible culpable for the man's sin of serving
as an unqualified elder and thus misleading people.Keep yourself pure: this means" free from sin"

Pray for wisdom and understanding! God has a plan, I believe when its time for an individual to understand His Weird, it is done in Gods time. Thanks and Praise to our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ! I don't understand the verse completely. I thought at first glance it meant not to try lay hand on anyone to harm them physically. Later, it felt like it was to warn against laying hands on someone and healing through the power of Christ, or forgiving a persons sins. We are sinful by nature and unclean. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the Truth is not in us. But, if we comes our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness(1 John). Paraphrased, however I'm still learning everyday and rely on God for daily guidance in everything. God Bless!

Wine is fermented/which is good/very good for the digestive.RedWine is very high in antioxidens/which is good. Also a dr told me to drink a small glass before bed. Said it was good for my heart. I can't see one bad thing about it. Would Jesus have given anyone something that would hurt them? I'dont think so. I just wish I liked it more. But....To much of a good thing can be bad.
  • Cindy on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
I was having severe stomach bloating and pain. I am a Christian and do not drink but I decided to try it. I had white zinfandel with food. My bloating and pain were gone for about a week now.

  • Frank on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
God made wine to make a man's heart glad...
    Jesus drank wine...
He made 180 gallons of the stuff for his first public miracle.
God designed it. He intends us to use it: wisely.
  • Vieuxloup on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
I respectfully submit that I have not found a verse in the Bible that forbids the consumption of alcohol. If so would Paul, who was not a doctor, be able to prescribe a forbidden fruit even for health reasons?

This verse may, in fact, be reminding Timothy that he is allowed to drink something besides water given his medical condition.
  • JEREMIAH SUNDAY on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
THIS PASSAGE WAS PERSONALLY ADDRESSED TO TIMOTHY BASED ON HIS HEALTH CONDITION AND THE WINE USED WAS EXCLUSIVELY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS ANT NOT FOR PLEASURE. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IS BIBLICALLY FORBIDDEN AND GOD IS NOT A JOKER. DRINK NO WINE MEANS DRINK NO WINE. ONLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS SHOULD ALCOHOLS BE TAKEN AND HERE, THE DOSAGE WILL BE PRESCRIBED SO AS TO AVOID DRUNKENESS.

Christianity does not take away our sense of responsibility.
  • Alicha peter on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 10 years ago
I love the book of 1Timothy 5:8.i have read over and over again. I pray God should grant some of us the wisdom to understand what He spoke through paul. many persons misunderstand this verse. your house hold is comprises of your immediate family and those distance family too. To some their family is wife and children but is not true. I thank God personally for the grace is given me to understand his word. provide for your family and the extended family and you see God doing the unbelieveable!
  • Carolyn on 1 Timothy 5:8 - 10 years ago
Marriage is an oath made before God to another, for BETTER or WORSE until death do part. Kristy I commend you on staying focused on God and His word for true guidance on God's perfect plan for a man and a woman. God is not the author of divorces. God has spoken! Are we listening?
God bless you, your marriage and children.
If anyone loosed his life for my sake will save it. Luke 17:33
Hang in there for Christ sake! You will be blessed! We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor. 5:7. Finally, God hates divorce. Malachi 2:16. If God hate it...we too ought to hate it.
The peace of God that all understanding be with you
  • One on 1 Timothy 5 - 10 years ago

And I just learned through this chapter that; providing for my own, does not stop at me supporting my family finacially, but that it actually means to provide my family with all godly influence: That I cannot treat them bad, or let them sin, without letting them know what God says about what they have done; for i am God's testifier............. And I did not know that widows are to remain unmarried, I just learned that through this chapter. So this is my third time reading the entire Bible, and look i'm still learning new things, so we must not believe that our own understanding is sufficient, but we must remain humble, and always seek more understanding, after we've already prayed and ask God for it.
  • Mike O on 1 Timothy 5:23 - 10 years ago
The bible nowhere states that red wine in moderation is ok, on the contrary there are many instances where the bible says not to drink at all, zilch, nada, zero. And the cons vs pros for red wine are like how far the east is from the west. The text speaks in Ephesians 5:18-20, Proverbs 23: 29-35, Proverbs 31:6 and many more verses...
  • Debora on 1 Timothy 5:6 - 10 years ago
I would so appreciate if the owner of this site could email me and elaborate more on this scripture: 1 Timothy 5:6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

I do understand that you can't love materialistic things and love YHVH at the same time. I would just like some more clarification please. Thank You and God Bless
  • Martha Prince on 1 Timothy 5 - 10 years ago
    @ Donna...I believe Charity starts within us no matter where we are. 1 Corinthians 13 tells us exactly what charity is;
1 Corinthians 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
  • Joyce on 1 Timothy 5 - 11 years ago
Paul exhorts each of us to set the foundation for our Christian experience beginning at home. The instructions for treating each memeber of our family is included in this chapter. It also denotes what the term Widow stands for. We as Christians should always take care of personal affairs before presenting ourselves before God for his service elsewhere.
  • Joyce on 1 Timothy 5 - 11 years ago
Yes it does, for how can God reward us for helping others when we have our members of our own family who are left desolate...this is equivalent to "doing our alms before men" for their praise and not for the glory of God.
